+xThis lack of subs/rotation business is really starting to get old. -PB Absolutely. As is the signing/playing of old mates at the expense of young players too (which I guess is aprt of your point PB). We are wallowing in mediocrity. Sure you can say we were not far off at all in the last GF but the reality is SFC have been the benchmark now for two seasons and we have shown no impetus to bridge the gap. Not to mention other clubs. I feel like we are a club out of ideas. Time for a coaching change for next season methinks. So I expect Muscat to be extended for another 2 seasons...

How long is Theo tied down with you guys for? Is he able to escape at the end of the season and get gametime elsewhere?

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Contini and Alan Davidson – convened on Thursday, 11 January 2018 to consider an incident involving Rhys Williams (Williams) in or around the 45th minute of Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League Round 15 Match against Wellington Phoenix on Wednesday, 10 December 2018.
The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Williams was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Williams had committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed by Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.”
The MRP confirmed that Williams will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

No mention of how the VAR was able to overturn a yellow, of course.

No mention of how the VAR was able to overturn a yellow, of course. Alan Davidson on FNR discussed the MRP. This is not a card upgrade by the VAR, it is a decision that the original ruling of free kick/yellow card was clearly wrong. According to the Laws of the Game, a tackle by the last defender (not GK) on an attacker heading towards goal is a Denial of a Goal Scoring Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO). Outside the box, it is a red card and inside the box a yellow card.

Why did they bother saying the var can no longer upgrade yellow to red when they are just saying the var changed it to a straight red... They are both the same fucking thing.

We have Leroy George, who, when he still has a full tank, takes the piss out of defenders but unfortunately cannot run out a full game. Then we have the young gun on the bench who loves to take on defenders and does so as good as anyone in the league. The situation is tailor made to get 60 odd mins of Leroy tearing shit up to then sub him off when he's cooked to bring on Theo to take on tiring defenders for a half hour. Instead we get Jai Ingham who offers very little and I just can't see him getting any better.

God knows what we're meant to do with Austin when he gets back :/ Can see us selling the both of them and Ingham will end up doing a Nabbout at some other club. -PB

If Williams teammates made an attempt to make him the second last defender by sprinting towards the goal line it would have been a yellow for STA The last DOGSO that I remember at this level was Jerrad Tyson being sent off against the Mariners at Gosford. The ref that day was the infuriating Kris Griffiths-Jones.

Why did they bother saying the var can no longer upgrade yellow to red when they are just saying the var changed it to a straight red... They are both the same fucking thing. The FFA's change to the VAR instructions was misreported/misunderstood in some articles. What they said was that the VAR would not get the referee to review matters where a yellow card might/probably should have been a red card for serious foul play. They left the severity of a tackle in the hands of the referee. DOGSO is a different law and is not covered by the upgrade instruction. It is covered by their instruction that game changing events should be reviewed by the VAR as should events that the referee has missed. In this case the VAR got the referee to review for DOGSO and the referee agreed so he annulled the yellow card and issued a straight red.

Barba has been great the past 6 weeks, looks to have found his touch after a shaky first few weeks. I think he's now our top-scorer if you remove penalties. George was once again brilliant, he made their right-back look like an absolute tool on occasions. Amazing what he would be like if he could actually run out the 90.

Some huge games coming up.
WSW, Syd (Aus Day) and Jets. If we can pick up 6 pts + we might just get a top 4 spot and contend. If we stumble then we might as well write the season off with an ACL campaign coming up.

Your not wrong 443.
Tbh I’m deeply considering downgrading to a 5 game membership for just AAMI park matches. Etihad just sucks for football matches and almost better off watching it on tv.

No Troisi (5 yellows) this week so I'm thinking: Berisha Theo George Kosta Milligan Antonis Nigro Williams Dino Geria Acton Bench: Sutton, Valeri, Broxham, Sanchez, Hope I doubt if Kev will start Theo but we need to see him play more than a cameo to see if he is good or a show pony.
Full trophy cabinet (but yours looks a bit empty) ! Reigning BACK2BACK 442 A League and World Cup (Mens and Womens) Tipping Champion - so yeap, I do know best !

The Walker Agent on Twitter (who has a VERY high success rate) is noting that we've offered Corey Brown a contract for next season - sourceWell, he's a dedicated leftback so that's progress I suppose

Nigro will probably be needed as a DM. So a cheap LB would make sense to free up some cap for more expensive players.

He's a loyalty player, so he can be paid completely outside of the cap. I agree about the others though.
