+xIf the ELO is accurate, it puts the quality of the Dutch and Scottish leagues into some perspective. All it is is a weighted computation of results over the past few years. Obviously there's always qualitative factors to take into account (e.g. the Scottish league has been effected by rangers downfall these past few yrs but now they are established again).

I didn't know that ELO only used league and UCL/UEL games as markers.
Even then I'd still take a full strength Huddersfield over a full strength Midtylland

+xA Socceroos 11 then based on elo ... Ryan Leckie Sainsbury Jedinak Gersbach Mooy Holland Mabil Rogic Oar Mebrahtu (This is assuming they all play) Some interesting names put out there. Players that haven't been looked at that much inc oar Mebrahtu mabil and surprisly Holland. Even Gersbach hasn't been used much by the roos . Holland was never selected by Ange - or Bert. He was last selected as a Socceroo by Holger. When returning to the HAL he didn't look that good by his own standards given his previous successes.

+xIf the ELO is accurate, it puts the quality of the Dutch and Scottish leagues into some perspective. The Scottish league and dutch league have been poorly rated by UEFA for years now, and it's no surprise. Generally speaking they do poorly in Europe. It's no surprise the Eredivise is 13th in Europe and Scotland is 22. Ajax and PSV will help maintain the Dutch top 15 ranking by qualifying for the UCL but the other three sides have already been eliminated in Europa League qualifying, that's fairly poor. This all determines European places so it is important and quite balanced. https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method5/crank2019.html

+xLeague rating...
Spain 1736 England 1709 Germany 1680 Italy 1634 France 1580 Russia 1547 Portugal 1490 Austria (!!) 1478 Belgium 1477 Swiss 1458 Turkey 1452 Ukraine 1447 (fallen a long way) Netherlands 1424 (bounced back a bit) Croatia 1398 Czech 1388 (higher than most perceive) Denmark 1387 Greece 1386 (fallen a lot) Sweden 1373 Scotland 1318 (!!!)
Updated above. Scotland a lowly 19th and that's only from top leagues. Including second divions eg EC and bundi 2 etc would be even lower. Also doesn't include Cyprus and Serbia who don't have a rating but I'd say would be ranked higher than Scotland too

Current UEFA league coefficients- Scotland has risen 6!! I expect this to further to up in coming seasons given Rangers are now stably in the top flight again so too hearts and hibs. Hopefully they can get back up to top 15 which will mean an automatic place in CL benefitting my team (Celtic) and all our aussie players in scotland Ranking | Coefficient | Places in 2020–21 season |

For perspective, seeing as this thread started with Gol-Gol's transfer to Sparta Prague, worth noting that he has failed to score in his 7 appearances (6 of them being as a substitute), before being an unused sub for a couple of games, then dropped from the match-day squad altogether for the last few weeks. He joined the club after their involvement in European competition (which helps their ELO rating) was finished for the year so hasn't had any involvement at that level this year.

They didn't qualify this season full stop (not even europa) . At the moment they're fifth in the standings as such their score is one of the few above to drop. Of the above only Amini, golgol, mooy, Meredith and jedi's teams have dropped thanks to poor results.

August 2019 update..... Scotland keeps inching upsides as Rangers slowly get back to where they were. Would be good if scotland could get back to 15th as this would see them granted an automatic champs league group stage spot. Austria keeps inching upwards too. It would be interesting to see where second divisions would be in regards to Uefa coefs. Since they basically measure the strongest teams in the division I'd imagine the Championship to be around 15?

I reckon that Socceroo squad based on ELO is the go, pending injuries and game time, maybe swap Loungo for Leckie and bring Grant in at RB.

Spanish segunda woupd be 7th after Russia, Englisg championship would be 8th one ahead of Portgual. Thats using the average club score from each league. So whilst say portugal and holland have some really big ranking clubs in porto, ajax etc the average of those leagues is brought down by the shitty low ranked sides. One thing studying ELO has taught me is that we get too hung up on the league someones in rather than the club. Theres a big big difference playing for PSV like Sainsbury does compared with say a Groningen (which is still like the 6th best in holland). It is a huge drop ranking wise

Having numerous big clubs means more challenging games which helps with that.

+xI didn't know that ELO only used league and UCL/UEL games as markers. Even then I'd still take a full strength Huddersfield over a full strength Midtylland Looking back at this comment now, I'd definitely back Midtylland.

+xSo from all the above the players Arnold needs to take a closer look at... Oar Mebrahtu Mabil Gersbach Jeggo Holland So a yr on... Oar- left about a week after this to mariners and wrecked himself Mebrahtu - no game time now in hungary which is a backwater Mabil - Was capped shortly after and been great for the roos. Good pick by me ill say Gersbach - moved to loaer denmark. Still not given much of a go Jeggo - status quo. Keeps getting picked as backup for roos but no gametime Holland - continued to go from strength to strength but still no cap. Overdue

Premier League 1750 Mooy, Ryan Brighton 1637, steady at 1636
Bundi 1704 Leckie Hertha 1645 down now 1626 Borrello Freiburg 1610 up now 1634
Championship 1498 Smith Cardiff 1541 Irvine and elder Hull 1507 dropped a lot, 1443 Luongo Wednesday 1533 down to 1480 Federici Stoke 1479 Dougall Barsnley no change 1412 Wright Bristol 1536... now Sunderland (unrated) Ryan Williams - Rotherham 1377, now Portsmouth (unrated) Meredith Millwall 1473... REMOVED
Austria 1484 Holland GAK very high at 1689!! Jeggo Austria Vienna 1457 up to 1475
Belgium 1474 Vukovic Genk 1628 fallen long way to 1547
Holland 1457 Dyl Ryan 1470 Hrustic Groningen 1428 up to 1447
Turkey 1427 Behich Basaksehir 1562 up to 1612
Croatia 1402 Karacic- Lokomotiv Zagreb 1384 up to 1434 Kalik Hadjuk Split 1508 now Gorica down to 1395
Denmark 1383 Mabil Midtylland 1506 up a lot to 1562 Amini , Duncan and Gersbach Aarhus 1370 up a long way to 1456
Cyprus (no rating but judging by club ratings it would be around here) Giannous Larnaca 1527 down a bit to 1509
Scotland 1355 Rogic, Arzani Celtic 1568 up massively to 1647 Boyle Hibs 1351 up to 1374 Garrucio, Bozanic Hearts 1273 down to 1259 Dykes Livingston 1324
Serbia (no rating but judging by club ratings it would be around here) Degenek Red Star 1521 up, 1543
Hungary 1302 GolGol Mebrahtu- Puskás Akadémia Puskás Akadémia 1250 - up to 1320
Israel 1282 Sainbury PSV 1702, now with maccabi haifa down a long way to 1406. Huge drop Rukas maccabi 1335 up to 1406
Bulgaria 1282 Jurics luzern 1424 now CSKA Sofia , which is surprisingly rated at a higher standard at 1475
Bosnia (unrated) Jovanovic FK Sarajevo 1263
Unrated (clubs too low) - Ryan Williams , Ryan Edwards, Harry Souttar, Lyden, Jason Cummings and Mark Milligan
Comments - Was surprised to see how strongly Juric's team CSKA are rated (1475) despite a lowly league.. The bulgarian version of rangers or celtic . Which brings me to Celtic and also LASK - both are rated very very highly off the back of outstanding results in the Europa league. Ppl on this forum keep talking about Rogic's decreasing gametime but it must be said that the scottish league and Celtic have improved a lot since Rogic first cemented himself as a starter in 2015/16 when Celtic were only rated about 1500. Its not that Rogic has dropped off in performance its just that Celtic now have both Ntcham and Christie who push him for a place combined with his ongoing fitness troubles. Holland's LASK meanwhile is the highest rating of any Australian ive seen since i first started following ELO in 2015. Plays every match, is vice captain and has a tonne of assists this season, surely must get a recall to the Socceroos. Another thing to note is how few Aussie we now have in Europe. Compare this to say 2004, the numbers have dropped astoundingly. Even compared to recent years we have dropped down. This is probably the fewest ive seen since about 2013. Last point - people need to re look how they view the israeli league - it is rated lowly. Sainsbury has taken a huge step down quality wise albeit Maccabi is the 2nd highest rated club .
Socceroos eleven using ELO.. Ryan Leckie Degenek D.Ryan Behich Mooy Holland Mabil Rogic Arzani Borrello

Always surprised how high Russia rates using ELO. It’s not a league that comes on my radar much.
