Congratulations Sydney United - 50 years is longer than what most of the Current clubs in the Reebok League will last for - however at this stage this comment will be taken as an assumption

I believe that perth glory would get bigger crowds against Sydney United of old than their current attendances

hahaha a lot has been written since last time I signed in.
Violence at Sydney United, Melbourne Knights and Alemania games obviously happens...except it seems that only pantou and I want to admit it.
I'll accept Sydney United fans fight, act like idiots on occasions, dont assimilate and waste police resources like you said afroman. I'll even admit that there is an Ustase coat of arms on the Croatian church in St Johns Park and that most Croatians in Australian still support the Ustase.
Pantou gave an example of Germans doing very similar things(maybe the Croatians have more flares but it is still very similar). Why do these arguments have to extend 6 pages just because you wont admit that you're wrong or because you dont think there are racist Germans in Australia?

So your distinction is...what?? That making the gesture at the south end of telstra dome means it's different?? In that case, surely "Heil Alemania" would exclude this from the circumstance. Especially since - you'll like this - 'Alemania' is SPANISH for 'Germany'.

As for the fine, I'll try find the link, but I remember distinctly because it was handed down the same night that Preston lost 3 points for the same things; and that my captain got a 5 week ban.

So what's your contention here?? That Richmond are the big bad wolves because they have tennuous ties to a country that people still view as the 'bad guy' but Preston aren't as bad?
I find the possessive pronoun ammusing too.

Exactly. I agree the club historically WERE GERMAN. The difference with them and Sydney United is, Richmond have well and truly toned it down to the point where its unnoticeable. At least IMO.

Not Richmond anyway... They have black and white from what I can see. No red or yellow.

The jerseys are obviously just a historic thing - the club was once German, and so would have worn those colours. It actually seems pretty toned down to me. There are plenty of clubs I've played against with black and white anyway...

The other thing to remember is the size and stature of each club. Richmond are hardly going to get anywhere.

Hence the point as to how fucking bollocks your argument is!! Just because they share the same kit colour as a country doesn't mean they associate with that club. My point before was that the blue and white (even the stripes) of the greek flag appear in the logo.

No, they're not. Otherwise they wouldn't have the backing of a German Club. Or wear colours similar to the German national colours. Or their fans wouldn't chant in German. When you put all the factors together, what do you get?

Point is, it's a conincidence. They're not Nazi extremists, it's simply a conincidence. The logo looks nothing like the damn balkenkreuz.

It's not whether they're Nazi Extremists. I never said they were. It's that a club, with German Ties, that are obvious to see, are known to cause trouble, be racist, when you said

So how can you condemn other clubs for ethnic backings ?

Well. They keep it relatively anonymous. Sydney United has the croatian red & White checks in their logo. South Melbourne still keep their greek blue & white. I don't see anything acentrically german about Richmond's logo.

Been reading this 'discussion' and checked out Richmond's page, and tbh, the first thing i thought of when I saw their Logo was the Cross Insignia that was on the German tanks during WW2. But maybe its just me.

You mean the Balkenkreuz??
The thing it looks absolutely nothing like?

A mixture between that and the Iron Cross. Notice the flared corners, like the Richmond logo, and how the Richmond logo doesn't actually form a solid cross, but 4 L shapes, much like the white parts of the Balkenkreuz. Like I said, it doesn't look exactly like it (that would be too obvious) but its what I first thought of.

Edited by Funky Munky: 9/12/2008 01:45:36 AM

OMG!! The Victoria Cross is yellow and has flared ends, just like the logo!! They must also be english rolayists dogs!!
