+xWest melb will also offer the highest license fee which the ffa will love. They will fail though they have very little traction out west. In terms of fan potential its the weakest of the melb bids but they have the $$$. Team11 only has themselves to blame if the governent doesnt pull through..if they want it that bad they should build it themselves. This West Melbourne will be competing against Victory for the Western suburbs. Victory are dominant out west, into Geelong and the rest of the regional centres.

In terms of fan potential its the weakest of the melb bids but they have the $$$. coming from a person with a clear agenda to not want them to succeed. the projected poulation is expected to go from 1.4 million people now to 3 million by 2030. That makes them one of them strongest bids in terms of fan potential. +xTeam11 only has themselves to blame if the governent doesnt pull through..if they want it that bad they should build it themselves. rather ironic comment considering your criticism of WMG. If WMG win, then more teams will follow suit and build their own stadiums. and who knows... there are some heavy hitters behind the Team 11 bid. if they miss out on their stadium funding, a successful WMG bid might motivate the Team 11 bid team into pooling some funds together to fund their own stadium.

I would rather WMG over team11 as a western team is no threat to South. But team11 has ready made infrastracture with dandy station right next to the proposed venue. With WMG if you aint driving you aint going because the area is a wasteland. Geelong for a few years will also be damaging.

I would love to see some innovative thinking from the bids that missed out. For me, South Melbourne’s biggest failings included their poor geographic location and the athletics Victoria stadium they share. South and Team 11 should BOTH play out of a new Dandenong stadium. The State Government would HAVE to find the stadium if there were 2 A League tenants to play out of it.

I think they can revisit team11 again but the same issues will arise, the government will not pay that sort of coin.
South has done its dash, inside word is the club won’t bid again, simply too much of a strain on the clubs resources. Will also not overspend in the npl, will gradually move the club in a more youthful position, even if it means relegation battles the days of south turning over nearly a million bucks to win the npl are over.

Cheerup. South should easily get into Div2 and from there its up to them to get promoted. Ideally you should merge with team 11.They are south. Get away from the Athletics track.Nobody wants that.

It staggers me that anyone thinks this will happen in our lifetime. Once your at the top its for life. One of the winning bidders even admitted they could not function in a 2nd tier.

Right now they're divvying up 20% of the Pie and falling P&R will create some Yo-Yo teams, but the Pie will start getting bigger

The ffa are only interested in looking after the interests of the franchise owners. Aside from Wellington being kicked out and a team or two folding, every single current franchise will be there long term.

Nikou has said it a few times, a primary focus is protecting the investments of the owners.
I read that one way.

Everyone fears the drop.Which is natural. But if there are 16 teams in a top tier and you are bottom then dropping it must be. Once a parachute drop fee is given ,then its more palatable. Dropping and losing money is the main fear.
One possible solution to straight relegation is to follow corporate plc governance. That is two strikes and your out of management. So if you finish in the relegation zone two years in a row you drop. No need to whinge. You deserve to go down and we avoid CCM and WP low achievers, who really dont try.
Also you make the 2nd div relevant. You do that by promoting teams.

From the teams left I'd like to see Canberra get one. I'd prefer to see a regional team rather than another Sydney or Melbourne team.
I'd also like to see South Melb get one. I'd love to see the concept of a pre-existing NPL and former NSL club in the HAL, with ostensibly a sustainable model in place.
Overall though, I'm filthy with FFA for overlooking the Tasmanian bid. I think it is probably due to Fox. Who runs football in Australia - FFA or Fox (Murdoch)?

That's why I brought up the idea of innovation and sharing the stadium. I believe if there were 2 teams playing out of the stadium, the State government would be more likely to fund it. You would get an A league match at the ground every week of the season. I think the stadium would be great for South if they could get a reasonable deal on rent, which i think they could Dandenong is close to Oakleigh, Clayton etc where many of the old South supporters live, so it's not a huge move to a different part of the city.

I think the a league expanding in Sydney will be ok all the teams will be playing in different stadiums great away trips and heaps of fans to choose teams.
But they have screwed up in Victoria choosing a team to play in Geelong while they build a stadium in tarneit. Should of chosen Dandenong or Canberra instead.
