The board of the Charles Perkins Soccer Academy will include Indigenous Business Australia director Roy Ah See, consultant Richard McGuinness, artist Danielle Mate Sullivan, writer and publisher Bonita Mersiades and Western Sydney University pro vice chancellor of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education Professor Michelle Trudgett. The academy follows the club’s decision to choose ochre as a team colour to represent the traditional colours for the local Dharawal Aboriginal people, on whose land the Macarthur region sits. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/macarthur/frank-farina-to-lead-macarthur-fcs-charles-perkins-indigenous-soccer-academy/news-story/80ba431aa9094c9959fc45f594a8976c?fbclid=IwAR1KDOEbi3y2rlXh6wLFToUCHnNOQ9T3u0OX2BIIyqKkHpdi1-dZD4L7BqM

Australian soccer royalty Frank Farina will head Macarthur FC’s newly-unveiled indigenous soccer academy, which will be based in Campbelltown’s future Centre of Excellence. The former Socceroo coach and indigenous man was today announced as the director of football for the high-performance program, to be known as the Charles Perkins Soccer Academy. The Danielle Mate Sullivan-designed academy logo.Charles Perkins, from the Arrenrnte and Kalkadoon people, was one of Australia’s finest indigenous footballers and civil rights activists. Farina said he was excited about the chance to discover talented indigenous footballers. “The Charles Perkins Academy project is one that can create real impact in people’s lives and for that reason I’m excited to be involved,” he said. “This academy is not only about delivering great opportunities for young indigenous players, but also about promoting understanding and celebrating the diversity that is so much a part of Australian life. “From a football perspective, we know there will be hidden gems out there and we can’t wait to find them.” The Macarthur FC initiative will rollout nationally and look to unite the many active programs under one umbrella. The academy will also work to help other A-League clubs engage in reconciliation initiatives such as pioneering an indigenous football round.

+x+x+xKeep it up Macarthur. Pressure on all Sydney clubs to lift. doesnt WSW have these things already? Yes but if there is no competition in the HAL, there isn’t much incentive to push for further innovation and progress. unless everyone does it.

+xMacarthur FC appoint Ken Stead as Director of Football HYUNDAI A-League newcomers Macarthur FC have secured a major off-field signing with highly regarded coach and mentor Ken Stead announced as the club’s inaugural Director of Football. In his role with Macarthur FC, the former Brisbane Roar assistant first team coach and director of football will initially focus on delivering a root and branch football department structure, from the senior teams right through to the club’s academy and community football set-up. Stead was a key figure in developing Roar’s much-admired playing style that delivered multiple honours and nationwide respect during the Ange Postecoglou era. His deep knowledge of football department structures, broad international experience and lengthy list of contacts around the world, will be valuable in establishing a best-practice model at Macarthur FC. In addition to his positions with Brisbane Roar, the Scot’s CV includes roles with the Socceroos, Olyroos and Young Socceroos, the Scottish Football Association, the Iranian National Team, Al Wakra Sports Club in Qatar, Wellington Phoenix and Coventry City in the UK.As head of the football department, Stead will also play a central role in ensuring the club’s culture and values are integrated and consistently practiced throughout the club. Earlier this year, Stead directed and organised Australia’s first ever International Football Coaching Conference Australia (IFCCA), attracting renowned keynote speakers from all corners of the world. Speaking about his appointment, the 57-year-old said it was the opportunity to build something special at Macarthur FC that tempted him back into the Hyundai A-League. “The region has impressive participation rates and is known as a hotbed of football talent. To shape a football structure that will deliver new opportunities and pathways for these young players is a very exciting project and one I couldn’t resist,” he said. “I’ve known the club’s Head Coach Ante Milicic for some time and I’m looking forward to working with him and his team. Ante will have full control over first team matters with my initial focus being on building a whole-of-club structure with a view to long-term success. “I’m aiming for a collaborative and productive relationship with the local associations, clubs, coaches and players. Consultation and regular engagement are the keys and we will work hard to create the right environment where everyone can flourish.” Macarthur FC Executive Chairman, Rabieh Krayem, was buoyant after securing Stead’s signature. “Ken is someone who knows the game as well as anyone and understands not only what we want to achieve, but how we want to achieve it,” Krayem said.“We are absolutely thrilled that he has decided to join us. Ken brings vast knowledge and experience to the club which puts the football department in a very safe pair of hands. ”Stead heads overseas at the end of this week and will take up his full-time role with Macarthur FC in December. https://www.facebook.com/macarthurfc/posts/2262821554008805?__tn__=K-R That rules out Mike Mulvey getting a job there then lol

+xI know it would be a few years away but are there any plans to redevelop/renovate Campbelltown Stadium? The below taken from page 403 of this document dated 21/05/19: https://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/files/assets/public/document-resources/councilcouncillors/businesspapers/2019/11-june/ordinarymeetingagenda11june2019.pdf- The new A-League team, the Macarthur FC Bulls was launched last week. Council expect this team to bring financial benefit and community engagement to the area. The Committee was advised that an upgrade to Campbelltown Sports Stadium (the home ground for Macarthur FC Bulls) has not been requested, but funding is being allocated for future asset improvement when required, as part of Council’s normal budgeting practices. The General Manager noted that the Macarthur FC Bulls will provide many opportunities for youth development football programs, including an Indigenous youth program.

Let’s be honest, Macarthur FC are far better placed to get things right than Western United. It really did seem that the FFA were spooked by the declining interest and feedback from fans that wanted change, and rushed the implementation of one club at all costs. Canberra had a ready made stadium, were not a consideration to protect the WSW this season but unfortunately didn’t come with a Foxtel incentive payment sweetener.
I do tend to think that both MFC and WU coming in next season, giving us a 13 team league, would have been wiser, but hey, we aren’t privy to all the information so it’s just an opinion.

+xI know it would be a few years away but are there any plans to redevelop/renovate Campbelltown Stadium? I think some minor renovations have already occurred (to get it up to speed for A-League matches) and that long term they definitely want to redevelop it into something amazing.

It was a pleasure to join Senator Marise Payne, Macarthur FC chairman Rabieh Krayem and Bill Parasiris of Western Sydney University to turn the first sod on the Campbelltown Sports and Health Centre of Excellence. This long-awaited $25.18 million elite sports facility will be a home to our new A-League club and other elite sports organisations in the region from 2021. 14 hrs ·

Ticking plenty of boxes. Macarthur was always the obvious choice as an expansion club and that extra year means they will quickly surpass WU on all metrics.

As Waz indicated work started today on Macarthur FC's training venue. "Five football fields, a gym, swimming pool, indoor futsal courts and administration facilities will be included in the new facility funded by the federal government, local council and Western Sydney University." Macarthur FC will be the major tenant. It will be ready in 2 years time.
It is designed to house A-League, NYL and women's teams and their indigenous academy, Dharawal FC.
