Yes I read the agenda pre tonights meeting and it appeared the meeting just had to confirm the rejection of the MV proposal. \the n refer it to a special review group. So very pre planned - lets not upset our voters

+xBut they did set up an advisory board. Still held ransom The Draft plan will be amended before it is return for further consultation. MV lose the first round of the planning battle to develop an Academy at Footscray Park At this evening’s City Development Special Committee meeting Maribyrnong Councillors endorsed the rejection of the draft Footscray Park Masterplan as presented, and a community advisory panel will be established. But the plan will be amended and then released for public submissions again.

Honestly, better off abandoning the plan entirely - we should not curtail our plans for a proper Academy due to somebody wanting their dog to shit all over a muddy riverbank.
I'd love for shits and giggles for them to build their Academy in somewhere like Tarneit lolol

+xMV lose the first round of the planning battle to develop an Academy at Footscray Park I would argue its a half win because people were expecting a rejection of the whole project. But still, more delays. +xHonestly, better off abandoning the plan entirely - we should not curtail our plans for a proper Academy due to somebody wanting their dog to shit all over a muddy riverbank.
Part of me wants to tell the council to get fucked, but that would let the other mob win. Still, I hope the club has been canvassing other options.

“Maribyrnong Council rejects Melbourne Victory Footscray Park academy planMaribyrnong City Council in Melbourne's inner west has rejected a controversial plan by A-League club Melbourne Victory to turn part of Footscray Park into a football academy, instead voting to set up a community advisory panel to consider the proposal.Melbourne Victory's proposed academy, which would include a fenced, floodlit show field and pavilion with seating for 500 spectators, has exposed deep divisions in Maribyrnong City Council in Melbourne's inner west. The club has secured $10 million in Victorian Government funding for its plan for a female and junior football academy, including two training fields, on a patch of open ground on the Maribyrnong River. As reported by the ABC, while some in the community have welcomed the prospect of improved sports facilities, others have condemned the proposal, for which the football club is seeking a 21-year lease, as a privatisation of scarce public open space.Meeting in Footscray last night, the Council's City Development Special Committee voted 6-1 to reject the proposal in its current form and set up a community advisory group to advise the council on changes to the plan.Speaking after the meeting, Maribyrnong Mayor Martin Zakharov stated “after hearing the feedback from the community, it is clear that there is more work that needs to be done to review the proposed football academy.”Earlier, Mayor Zakharov said the condition of the park had deteriorated over the past decade, describing it as "a mudbowl in winter and a dustbowl in summer". Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton had supported the plans and said the A-League club’s vision, which would have included headquarters for Blue Light Victoria, would help engage at-risk youths and provide a “pathway for the future”.Local sports clubs were also set to benefit from the plan, with the Maribyrnong Swifts able to take advantage of a partnership with Victory to create a professional pathway for girls and women. The Council had received 1500 submissions on the proposal, with 54% supporting the masterplan and 45% opposed. However, rather than welcoming the appointment of the community advisory panel, Save Footscray Park members were critical of its “wrong” terms of reference, expressing fears that it will be skewed towards sports clubs.” https://www.ausleisure.com.au/news/maribyrnong-council-rejects-melbourne-victory-footscray-park-academy-plan/

Get some sad faced african kids in the paper while holding their footballs.
The inner-city wankers will do cartwheels and backflips to get it approved

Victory linked with Jacob Poulsen. 36 years old, 35 Denmark caps, signed by Ranieri at Monaco (when they were in League 2), turned down a done deal transfer to Lazio for game time and already has beef with Adelaide's coach. https://beta.bold.dk/fodbold/nyheder/avis-jakob-poulsen-har-kurs-mod-australien?fbclid=IwAR3LzGhsYBLUSaCCPbQuumr-FW5tKupD4ldWbkWitEP4s6WDHpMfdIruPoE

Happy with both Carrigan and Lauton. I think thats brings our squad to 19/23. Think we usually start the season with one spot still available. So a foreign 6 and 8, and an aussie squaddie to come i guess

Jakob Poulsen all but confirmed, going by his twitter followings.
Assuming he stays injury free, a very handy pickup. Much needed grunt in the midfield after the departure of Valeri.

Poulsen played 45 games in all competitions last season, so despite the advanced age, he should be fine with our short season.

I think that some people get stuck in old mindsets when it comes to older players and their bodies - yes, there used to be a time when a player got to 32 and they were physically broken as a player. However, modern sports science has come on in leaps and bounds and so it's possible for a bloke at 36 to be just as fit as he was when he was 30 - as griff1 mentioned, he's coming off a 45 game season last year...
On the surface a good signing - will hopefully add some much needed leadership and experience to our midfield in the wake of Valeri's retirement.

He looks more a 8/10 than a 6. So I assume something like Thomas Deng Hoogland Donachie Brown Broxham Poulsen Kruse Dobraas Nabbout Toivonen With one more visa spot on maybe a CM or LB and Broxham to inevitably land up playing the other position?

Adama Traore rumoured to be in talks with Victory: https://twitter.com/TheCovertAgent/status/1171633857067663362?s=19Coming back from injury as he is it would really be the best place for him. A guy on the FVS forums thought he might have seen him at the airport with Carl Valeri but wasn't sure.
