+x+xcummins gets a brace to end the day getting both root and burns Oz need 8 wickets in 98 overs barring rain to win the urn Only rain can get in Aussie's way. Smith is a freak. Smith has had his share of luck too.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xlyon bowled beautifully so did cummins. Sadly they didnt get the reward starc had the ball talking but was very inaccurate What an Ashes Mike's punching bag.. Josh Hazlewood is having. When I hit the sack Root and Burns were in their comfort zone. I wake and Josh has taken 3/17 in his last 5over spell. Gone are those two and the sadly out of his depth Jason Roy. and the Pommies are now in deep doo doo. With some decent weather predicted for last two days.. Baggies are now in the box seat but England still have some big hitters to come and this deck has little life left for the quicks. Haven't seen much of Mike lately with Hazlewood on fire! He must feel embarrassed! LOL! Pom big hitters might be a threat yet. Here here KW. He is conspicuous by his absence. Enjoying the match mate? Perhaps a touch harsh on Starc. He did bowl more accurately than usual tho a touch short..spoilt only by two overs that leaked some 25 runs. He was also quicker than even Cummins. Hazlewood surprised with his pace too. Hit (90mph and averaged 87 all while maintaining his impeccable accuracy. Ricky Ponting said Cummins bowled without luck immediately after tea. He said he gave Burns and especially Root a real examination. With two days left and no more crap weather predicted the Aussies now have time to take the remaining wickets and wrap up the Ashes. So what will happen from here. Firstly we have to remove their big hitters in Stokes and Buttler asap. Those two can do serious damage and eat up valuable time. Then do we enforce the follow on? I say no as we wanna have last crack on this deck as it may suit the tweakers and we give them extra scoreboard pressure with a large total to chase or defend. Cday Bg, jaszyjim - Agree with you, no follow on just try & set an ungettable? score and have a go at them on a last day track Precisely JJ. Starc has rediscovered his in swinging yorker this morning. He actually looks dangerous again. It was pertinent in Starc's bowling speeds that his quickest ball was 147 kph, whereas he normally bowls a lot more at 150 kph. Last season in Aus, his average speed was almost the quickest ever recorded in the history of Test cricket, but he was ineffectual. He has gained more accuracy reducing his speed. Cummins, Hazlewood and Pattinson all seem to be bowling their quickest balls at 145 -146kph. 144.9 kph is 90 miles per hour. It really annoys me that the Americans and English still use imperial measurement, whilst the rest of the world uses the metric system.

This has been a hell of a test series, despite some sub-standard batting from both teams.

While the batting from many of our players hasn't been great. They have often just occupied the crease enough so that the tail is facing tired bowlers and can wag a bit
Siddles 40 and starcs 50 could be the two knocks that win the ashes

Starc has rediscovered his in swinging yorker this morning. He actually looks dangerous again. It is a tough job working out who to leave out of the eleven , now Starc has become more accurate. He offers something different from the other bowlers and was effective against the tail. In terms of depth, our current attack of Cummins, Hazlewood, Pattinson and Starc, is the best in Australian test cricket history. I say this because which ever bowler misses out, would probably have not missed out in any other era in a three pronged pace attack. All bowlers can bowl at the 145 kph mark, which may be the quickest attack in history from all nations. Given reserves Stanlake, Richardson, Meredith and Abbott can all reach these speeds too, there is a squadron of genuinely fast bowlers in Australia ATM. Also, the current Aussie attack is accurate and bowls with control at these high speeds. Recently South A have had Steyn, Morkel, Rabada, Oilveira all bowling at 145 kph, but I'm not sure all could do it at the same time.

+xThis has been a hell of a test series, despite some sub-standard batting from both teams. It has indeed. Had everything. Now we are set for an exciting finale. Another nerveless innings from Smith.. this time he got some support from Wade with Paine again contributing Marnus had his first failure but copped a beauty from Archer. This is how one scribe described Smithy's knock. Another exhibition of batting genius from Smith in the face of adversity allowed Australia to declare their second innings with half an hour spare on day four. Smith was at his most eccentric and belligerent, darting around the crease, waving his bat like a scimitar, advancing down the pitch and occasionally falling on his back.

As we have seen far too often from Starc. I dont think Hazlewood likes hitting above the 140mark. It is when he is at his most accurate as we have seen this series. He does crank it up with his surprise bouncer which is as good as any in the team. Cummins is the world's best because he has two strings to his bowling. He can be an enforcer with his extra speed or tone things down and keep it accurate to build pressure when needed. Cummins, Hazlewood, Pattinson and Starc, is the best in Australian test cricket history.
Brave call. Lillee Thomson and Walker take some beating. As do McGrath, Gillespie and Lee. How about this as a four pronged Ashes attack. Lillee, McGrath, Cummins and either of Miller/Hazlewood/Thomson.

Bumrah's rankings are discounted cos he hasn't played enough tests yet. He will goto number 1 when he takes his 100th wicket... I know how the rankings work.... He needs 100 wickets before he is not penalised... Abbas is in the same boat... SMith is clearly the best test batsman in the world though. He has left KW and Kohli for dust. It's not even close.

At last- a wicket.
Cummins bowling wide of the crease bowls Roy.
3-63.
GOAT is landing a few too.

Stokes walks.
Brilliantly caught by Paine off Cummins.
4-78.
Fair play to Stokes.
The pressure from GOAT and Cummins from each end is tremendous ATM.

There was just a graph on TV showing how Cummins’ average speed is slowing a little every test since the first one at Edgbaston.
It hasn’t effected the quality of his performances.

GOAT has bowled some potent balls this innings, but the last over to Bairstow, a right hander, there were too many deliveries that were on a line too much on the legside.

+xThere was just a graph on TV showing how Cummins’ average speed is slowing a little every test since the first one at Edgbaston. It hasn’t effected the quality of his performances. Fellars do you reckon we can now breathe easy? A loss is out of the question..a draw or the Ashes remain.

+x+xwhat is the go with lyon? i knew he can’t bowl against quality batsmen but as of late it seems he cant even bowl against anyone at all.. straight garbage Welcome to the forum, Deadline. GOAT has bowled well today without luck. Better than the last two games DC but still not commensurate (see I too can use fancy words) with his rating as the GOAT. Just got hold of this stat. Since his successful first match his series figures read 130 overs, 5 @80. He currently has around 0/130.
