The crowd was great last night, and I was thinking it was more like 14,000 rather than the 12,000 reported. The noise and atmosphere was electric late in the second half. After we scored our injury equaliser, everyone was jumping around all over the place, I believe I had beer and other liquids sprayed all over me from everyone's excitement. :p

I summed it up for my non soccer firend over email(non any sport) this morning like this... so you pretty spewing bout the reds then?Yeah just sad and disappointed but not angry coz we really played well and fought so hard but just couldn’t get over the line Was the most exciting game ive ever been to by a mile I reckon The atmosphere was amazing and when we equalized to go 2-2 with 3 seconds left on the clock the whole place went mental Zoe was going bunta was sooo funny Strangers hugging beer flying everywhere Such an amazing thing to be a part of for that minute especially

And sticking with the theme...an email to my father(one of many this morning)...(the legs weighing 10tonnes my dad refers to is Fyfe on the 3rd goal we conceded. It was poor decision making and tired legs and mind that made him first hesitate to mark at all but THEN to position himself infront of the striker for the cross was not great... I dont wanna fault one player though too much really as they fought SO hard... Abck to the email
He looked like his legs weghed 10 tons. He just did not have the power to jump. I agree it was a fantastic game and a great spectacle. I want more..
Yeah well the good thing is I read the A-Leageue starts in August this year to accommodate Asian Cup in January
So theres a month till the World Cup then only a month to wait until the new season
Not bad…
Apparently more midweek clashes this year too…
It’s just so sad coz I love the Champions League….
I feel so lucky to be seeing the start of this new adventure in Australian football
Just hope it continues

Whilst sticking with the sentimental theme…
We are watching the history of Adelaide United in the making If the club still exists in 50 years this will all be a part of it and we’d have been there to see it
It’s the collective heartbreak perhaps even more so than the joy that makes a club great… None of us will ever forget the 6-0 grand final or the Christiano grand final or the Gamba Osaka final and now I will definitely add this night to that list…
When we win something(hopefully next year) it will make it so much sweeter because of all of these things…
That’s all ahahaaa

All I know is, we better qualify for it again very soon (i.e. 2012 Season) :-D I've gone to a lot of AU games but there's something special about the ACL nights.

We relly needed to play at home because mid league, top of table vs out of league really told last night. They were quicker, sharper and won just about every aerial ball, but I take heart, because if we were in mid league I reckon we'dve beaten them.
Oh yeah Pantelis should've been wearing a suit and eating hot-dogs.

Why he did not lay the ball off to van Dijk when he was free in the box after both defenders went to Pants I will never know

Now that it's the off-season, I guess we'll all go into hiding until more news is revealed regarding scheduling and player movements. It's been an up and down ride over the last 12 months, but in the end the boys redeemed their A-League failures in the final match of the ACL.
Looking forward to 2010/11 and our qualification for the 2012 ACL. :D

If it's correct, then we play Victory and Sydney at Adelaide Oval. I was also under the impression that if you played twice away to a team in the previous season, you got two home games against them in the next season. Obviously not because we play Victory and Sydney away twice again which doesn't really seem fair to me.

Here was a discussion on another thread regarding the SA component of our World Cup bid... thought it might interest fellow AU fans: http://au.fourfourtwo.com/forums/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=32070&p=3Gyfox wrote: SA I fear will have remained recalcitrant and stuck with AO which, depending on the final plans, puts them in the firing line to be one of the cities rejected when the host venues are culled to 10 by FIFA. If state capital Belem in Brazil with a population twice that of Adelaide was cut from Brazil's host cities by FIFA Adelaide is then not certain to be included. If the AO plans are not adequate from FIFA's viewpoint then you might well see them putting pressure on the SA government like they did with Cape Town and Durban in South Africa to get a better venue or be dropped.
Benjamin wrote: Other than ovals in general, this is my key concern with regard to the major stadia. Belem being dropped from the Brazilian bid wasn't a huge issue because they had about 18 options at the start, to be cut to 12. Adelaide, as our 4th or 5th largest city can not go unrepresented in the finals.
Gyfox wrote: Adelaide is our 5th largest city and Belem is Brazil's 10th largest city. I agree that Adelaide should be included if we are successful but not with an inadequate venue. I understand there is a lot of work being done at the moment on final proposals for AO so it will be interesting to see how it comes out finally. There is precedent in the bidding for the 2010 World Cup for revised plans to be given to the FIFA Inspection Team and be considered.
The problem as I see it with the AO proposal that was made public earlier is that it built on the philosophy of the plans for the stand that is currently under construction. This saw the infield widened by 8m to 132m to "ovalise" the ground and retained the concourse in front of the tiered stands as a design feature. The result of these two design principles is to move the spectators in the lower bowl further away from the play and also to keep the tiered stands further away from the play than would be the case in a modern stadium development. Combined these two factors make the venue decidedly third rate for viewing football.
Which brings me to my two cents: If Adelaide misses out on World Cup action and we have to watch AU at Adelaide Oval next season, i'm going to have to kill one of you. Any volunteers? Edited by redeyerob: 14/5/2010 03:00:16 PM

Over the months I'm getting more and more concerned about this Alan Young bloke.
It began as - great new owners progressed to his only contact with football were his primary school sons who thought Adelaide Oval was the bees knees to near revolt from us fans > so concessions were made and Hindmarsh was preferred, now it's argueing with the FFA ( and he still hasn't taken the reigns - it sounds too spookily like fat man Palmer for my liking!!
:-k

Val mentioned in the 'Tiser today that the ownership takeover is on shaky ground and could fall over as soon as today. Haven't heard anything yet though.
Not good, I thought it all sounded very promising.

So what's everyone's reaction to the news that Adelaide Oval will be our official World Cup stadium here in Adelaide? Quote: Adelaide Oval was originally established as a sporting venue in 1865, and extensive redevelopment has taken place over the years to modernise the facility, culminating in 2003 with the addition of the Chappell Stand on the eastern side of the oval. The latest redevelopment, set to be completed in 2010, is the upgrading of the western stand, providing spectators and hospitality guests with state-of-the-art facilities. Adelaide Oval is served by a strong transport network. It is easily accessed via the surrounding road network, and is well served by public transport infrastructure which includes trains, trams and buses. It was a great night and we did ourselves really proud - melbourne complain about the schedualling but we would of won if it wasnt for more match fitness. I shall be a bit self indulgent here and it was almost surrel but wonderfull seeing Francesso given some game time in the ACL :d It was almost like yesterday he was knee high and now he's with AU playing in the ACL......very cool!

Oh yeah Pantelis should've been wearing a suit and eating hot-dogs. If you have a look at Stattoz, Adelaide won more aerial balls than Joenbuk. Their superior interplay in the attacking third and the efficacy and speed of their accelerated attacks won them the game.

Unfortunately stats do not indicate where on the pitch the headers were won or how much pressure was on the aerial battle. Robbie Cornthwaite's flick header in the box was under huge pressure and resulted in a goal, as did Lee Dong's with 3 minutes to go. superior interplay vs sharpness, you say pot-ae-to I say pot-ar-to

I agree. Drop Jamo. As for Cassio, I can't remember when he re-signed with us. I think you may be correct though.
Bring up Kostopoulos and Milovanovic up from the youth squad, and we're looking the goods again.
