+x+x+x+xI’m assuming Roar will be shopping for a 6 and 9 with only one visa spot available - there’s fewer Aussie 9’s than there are 6’s Are you talking about for the rest of this season, in which presumably only free agents can be signed, or for next season? Just generally - Australian No 9’s must be the shortest availability of all positions so I’m assuming that’s a high probability for the spare visa slot. I agree that Australian 9’s are pretty rare. At the moment AAH, who I don’t rate, is more-or-less a 9 taking up a visa spot, and I would be looking to replace him with a better player and use the other visa player elsewhere. Getting a reasonable visa 9 does seem to be difficult for A league clubs though, there have been a lot of misses over the years. Even this year, as well as Roar with AAH, you have Adelaide with Opseth, WSW with Meier, as examples. yeah, ideally I’d move AAH on too and sign two visa players for 6 and 9.
Berni Ibini is apparently available, or was.

I like to see us fighting for honors, with skill and a bit more finesse. Some of these players have very poor ball control and are ugly to watch, even when they win. Happy for RF though, showing he can coach.

Maybe some of us remember the unmitigated disaster of last year and are happy to support a team that doesn't cave at the first sign of trouble. Some of us are even able to see a solid foundation being put in place that can see even better results moving forward. It certainly beats miserable pessimism and an inability to enjoy progress and victories.

Some of those players would have done well under RF.

Yeah, we’ve loads of improving to do but RF had the balls to sack his main striker - love the message that sends to the squad.

The ladder puts us dead centre - but to me that masks our performance rather than revealing it. If we had won a few and lost a few all season, and sat around the middle from the start, the ladder would confirm our mediocrity (relative to the other teams). But throughout the season so far we have come from the bottom of the ladder to halfway - which actually says we are far from mediocre. I don't dispute your perspective on our ugly football - that's how you see it and you are certainly not alone. What I do say about our ladder position is to come from the bottom to halfway actually confirms we are a better than mediocre side.

Just for fun I have taken the first 8 games of the season off everyone's scores to roughly see how the first half of the season so far compares to the second half. PG 20 SFC 19 (game in hand) MC 16 (played 1 more) WP 14 BR 14 MV 10 (played 1 more) AU 9 WU 8 WSW 7 CCM 6 NJ 5 It is a true meaningless stat because at that point not everyone has played everyone else even - but it is interesting to toy with. City plays Phoenix this weekend, and it is feasible that City will win. Roar play WU this weekend and are a chance to win. Give SFC two wins for their catch-up game and to equal City's 17 games played, and give PG the win against us in their next game (grrr). If all that happens the top 5 (ignoring the first 8 games played) are: SFC 25 PG 23 BR 17 MC 16 WP 15 Not so shabby for a mediocre side!

Recent form grinding out results is good but reached its peak IMO. Better than mediocrity is above the middle, not the middle. I like to aim higher and expect to be higher.

I still think we are a chance at 4th and hope for higher. No peak reached yet - we had a rest and something to eat early in the season and now we are striding up the mountain.

If we end up in the top 4, that says something how poor the other teams are, rather than our performance. Lucky to remain in the 6 with this cattle, ugly and mediocre unfortunately. Sorry that I'm finding it hard to get excited.

Top 4 is definitely an option. We are in the same basket as Nix and WU and in better recent form than both of them. So why not?
It’ll come down to who we all play over the last ten rounds - we have Glory, City, SFC plus five games against teams currently outside the top 6, then Nix away and finish with Adelaide at home.
There’s 38-42 points as a realistic target which is typically enough to get you in the frame for fourth

I think recent results have flattered the quality fo the team and that this run will end. 5 or 6 possible. 7 or 8 still more likely in my view. If we make the 6, it will be a rousing endorsement of RF's coaching, because that result certainly means the team playing as more than the sum of very ordinary parts.

Yep, we've excelled from being absolutely hopeless to mediocre. CredIt to RF the way he's herding the cattle. Anyone notice how Gillespe was trying to deliver those long diagonal balls vs Adelaide? Skewed and never found their marker. I mean he can stick a leg out OK (which incidentally requires no ball skill but timing), the rest should be simple football skills 101 which at this level has been atrocious.

+xSome of us put up with (as in laughed at) the rants aimed at us for seeing something more in both Robbie and the team. Feels bloody awesome to have had faith in the evolution of both Robbie and the team and seeing some of it come to fruition. Even the most orange spectacled of us have said there is a distance to go - but we are certainly travelling in the right direction. Personally, in relation to both Robbie and the team, I don't care what happens over the rest of the season - they have proven themselves competitive and worthy of this league and we can now cheer, laugh, cry, scream and be frustrated like any other fans. Fulltime Score: Robbie, Roar and Nuthuggers 1 - Haters, Bitters and Spewers 0 I bloody well like it too.

At least AAH is improving, and if given more time I'm fully expect him to get more effective.

In an uncapped League I wouldn’t like Pepper but the reality is he’s getting minimum wage ($80k?) so look around the league and see what $80k buys you?
The thing with Pepper is he always looks like he gives a sh*t, that’s why RF likes him.
Bowles on the other hand is going ...

Thank goodness RF is showing promise at coaching at least.
