At this point in time ,in my opinion BR are SFC light.Hard to beat and able to hang in there ,build pressure and squeeze out a goal.
Nothing flash. No particular quality .Hence ,draws, wins and losses by one goal and consistency since losing to WU by 2.
We could continue on this run  .But when the margins are so small all the time,it is just as easy to lose a few.
The important thing is we have a base to build on.
Across the park we can upgrade. So with more pace, more creativity and defensive  ability ,we can only hope we end up with a strong team long term.

It was a set piece, they weren’t gonna score in open play.

By your on reasoning, Perth are absolute shit. They've had 2 cracks at Brisbane and still came up with only draws (and excuses from you about them being tired). Clueless

Funny man. If we had no ACL game it would have been 0-3 at the minimum. Brissy literally had everything going for them heading into the game, you would think being the home team they would come out all guns blazing from the 1st minute but they were crap.

It is a simple game... the team that scores most wins ....we scored the same as Perth so its called a draw and equal points are given .
How they are scored matters not ...each goal is worth one goal only.
We do lack a true finisher ...Perth have one... but we still drew with them .
I am happy with that .

I don’t think they were outclassed and I haven’t read an independent match report that says as much.

The results are speaking for themselves now

I'm sorry to say this, I've just rewatched the first half and Brisbane were outclassed.
Some stats I noted for the first half:
1. Reddy touched the ball in open play a total of 4 times, all backpasses under no pressure. Reddy did not once touch the ball with his hands in the first half.
2. Brisbane made a total of three legitimate entries into the penalty area. One was a tame shot from great distance by Gillesphey, going well wide and a Perth defender cleared it. One other was Brisbane's only other shot in the first half, a pass into the area to Brown who crossed it along the ground to McDonald who shot wide, the other was a pass into the box which came to nothing. Brisbane also made three other entries into the box but to a player in an offside position (one of these was the one where a penalty was given initially).
3. Apart from their goal, Perth had three other shots on goal in the first half that Young saved, along with many other entries into the box.
Brisbane faffed around with the ball a lot in midfield in the latter part of the half, but didn't create anything dangerous from it. Perth looked much more dangerous generally when in possession of the ball in Brisbane's half.

You're right, it's a very simple game that is often complicated by people.  It would appear Perth are either tired or not fit when playing Brisbane.  A strange phenomena.

You’re assuming that you get to decide who was outclassed and who wasn’t.

I said I couldn’t find any independent writing that suggested Roar were “outclassed” in the first half, so in all probability they weren’t “outclassed”.

But let’s run with your theory that they were:

the only goal Perth scored was a fluke - a tame shot that would easily have been saved if it weren’t for a lucky deflection.

The only other shot of note from Perth was a good one but priduced a routine save for Young.

Young will not feature in “Save of the week” this week and only touched the Ball 37 times, which is about normal - he wasn’t that busy.

So yeah but nah on the “outclassed” stuff - you’re just trolling. There is no evidence to back your statement up and no independent writing to support your position.

I think we matched Perth in a few areas on the park, however our weaknesses and their strengths were certainly on display in others. For example, we have a player like Pepper, who puts in a lot of effort and sometimes does the right thing, but a lot of the time doesn't. He gave away the ball with direct passes to opposition players way too much and that is a lot of the time going to cost us.
Fornaroli and Castro both showed that they are very dangerous in attack and have a huge level of creativity that can be used to unlock an opposition defence. I certainly thought given the way they were playing, Perth would have scored more. I honestly don't think we have any players who can match them technically or creatively, and that is going to mean we will have a tougher time breaking them down and creating chances.

In the end though, the result was a draw, and it doesn't matter if people think it was a fair result or not. As a Roar fan, I am always going to take any points we can get over a loss.

Sure the deflection was a fluke, but what about the lead up play/work, Fornaroli recieves the ball back to goal, man on his ass, and somehow turns him inside out to create the space for the goal. That is what you call class, something that Brisbane did not display.

And for all of Perth's class they still can't beat Brisbane.  So either Perth aren't as good as you think, or Brisbane are better than you think (or probably both).

Pre game, considering all the circumstances and Brisbane’s form I would have taken a draw, but looking back we should have won by a few at the very least. There wasn’t much differential from the Brisbane side we saw Saturday compared to the early season Brisbane.....absorb all the pressure and then hope to score at the end. O’Shea was nowhere to be seen, only Holloway you could say made an impact.

Enjoy the mediocre grit and grind.

With all your analysis of Perth's brilliance and class, you're yet to come up with a sensible reason they can't beat a gritty, grindy NPL side.   First time you told us they weren't fit, this time they were tired.  Have you actually considered that the Roar are better than you think?

You seemed pretty confident in the matchday thread though?

" 0-2 PGFC. Early goal or two then park bus" ;)

Jokes aside, Roar certainly haven't wowed me this season and they definitely are missing class players that they have had in the past, that got me genuinely excited.

I agree with Keeper66, I thought brissy were outclassed first half so no argument there from me.

Yes, which is why pre game I would have been happy with a point. But there performance was poor. We looked dangerous every time going forward, Brisbane had no idea what to do the with ball going forward.  Listen to Fowlers press conferences, never talks about how good they played, always about the players giving maximum effort and “attitude”.

Haha not sure if it still exists, but we flew of over from Perth to play in the “Gold Coast Cup” few years back now and fuck me, the humidity was intense. But realistically, I think the travel perth did would have played a factor, how big or small we don’t know....popovic even said in his press conference the players switched of for the corner due to fatigue lol

the only goal Perth scored was a fluke - a tame shot that would easily have been saved if it weren’t for a lucky deflection.

But you are trolling.

But they do have an idea what to do with the ball, they’ve been doing the same thing for the last 10 games.

They break out of defence, they go wide, they come inside to the 6 or O’Shea, then they go wide to the wide Mid/Wing Back, then they cross into the box .... you can see these nice “triangles” of play over and over again

sometimes they get it right and they open the defence up, more often than not they’re a bit slow and the wing back ends up coming inside again. But even from here they’ve developed some neat interchange play where they’ve learned to play through the defence (see O’Neill’s chance last week vs WU)

It is not perfect nor the finished article, nor are they creating enough chances doing this. But to your point - Roar know exactly what they are doing with the ball going forward they just need to get better/quicker at doing it

but they opened up Perth twice doing it last week, and WU the week before, and Adelaide, City, Nix .... even SFC has their issues with it.

Gillesphey made the HAL team of the week.

Again.

We’ve played 18 games and that’s at least the 8th time he’s been there.

But yeah, the trolls 😂

.....and if we can find a goal thief we may get some joy from it ..we simply do not have a real goal scorer.
We have various players contributing goals ..which is great ..and necessary...but we need someone with a nose for goal to get those 10 to 15 goals per season ...with that I would put us top 4 minimum.
I think RF thought Roy would be that player but for whatever reason he wasn't.
He hasn't brought anyone in to do that yet.
Offseason may be interesting .
