So with the season over guy's what do we want different for next season ?

I think our midfield is good i would not change much at all.

i would bring in another CB if mckain leaves because i think elsey is still about a season away from being a week in week out starter

i think we need to bring in another striker who will score us about 10+ goals a season

1 Striker and 1 CB

next season can we get the triple Cup, Premier plate and grand final.

Im happy for Elsey to be a starter he is good on the ball and never looked out of place. He also adds an extra option in attack.

We need a striker who is fast and can create his own space. Jero just is not cut out for this role he is much better on the wing. Nor am i downplaying bruces importance but we just need a bit of variety.

We also need a Solid left back. Although if the rumours of a 3-4-3 to be played next season then it will be interesting what Josep does.

I dont expect many more signings that are not from our youth squad. I think Josep has every intention of promoting the locals unless an amazing opportunity presents.

We would probably line-up like this if we play 3-4-3

Eugene
Boogs-McKain (if he stays)-Elsey
Cirio-Isaias-Watson-Carrusca
Ferreira-Bruce-Jeronimo

On another night our Youth team MVP apparently been released.

I would have thought the back like would be something more like this (assuming Johnny goes):

Malik-Boogaard-Elrich

Could be something much different though depending on who leaves/signs.

I knew I forgot someone. It depends if he goes the usual 3ATB style with 3 CB's and two defensive wingers or the old version with two full backs and one centre half.

“Dream comes true” – Academy for shit goalkeepers to be built in Adelaide

Posted on May 18, 2014 by Joey Crews

Adelaide are hunting for the next Galekovic.

Unlike Galekovic (above), Adelaide United don’t want to miss their chance.

Continuing the revolution started by popular coach Josep Gombau, Adelaide United have agreed to spend $30 million on a state-of-the-art academy specifically targeting terrible goalkeepers.

According to documents filed with Adelaide City Council on May 12th, the notorious Hindley Street night-club district – up until now the best place in Adelaide to catch something – will be bulldozed to make way for what has been tentatively titled “The Josep Gombau Academy For Shit Goalkeepers”. Scheduled to be completion in 2017, the academy will sport two full-sized football fields, 6 half-sized fields, two gyms and several experimental football cannons designed to push goalkeepers to their limit.

An Adelaide United spokeswoman said the academy will help build the exposure of the club and put Adelaide on the map. “Since Josep Gombau’s run-in with Val Migliaccio last season over the quality of his son’s goalkeeping ability, Josep has pushed hard for Adelaide to open an academy dedicated to shit goalkeepers. We’re extremely grateful to Adelaide City Council for giving us the chance to rehabilitate and mold goalkeepers down on skill, luck or confidence. In fact, it’s part of the academy’s motto: “Shit today, a keeper tomorrow”.

Gombau’s tenure at Adelaide United has been marked by several hot-headed exchanges with the media, building the Spaniard’s aura as a tough customer; the final approval to set up the academy only came after Gombau was reportedly overheard telling the Adelaide United board to ‘harden up’ during a heated conversation halfway through the 2013/14 A-League season. “If you don’t see this, then you don’t understand football, honestly,” Gombau was also heard to remark as he threatened to storm out of the club if his demands weren’t met.

For shit goalkeepers across Australia, this news has been met with excitement as their dreams of not being disappointments to their friends, family and team-mates is destined to come true. 16-year-old Bailey Onhandig from North Lakes, Queensland told FMF he is relishing the opportunity to resurrect his budding career, and hopes he will be noticed by Adelaide United or other A-League clubs in the years to come.

“I first knew I was a shit goalkeeper when I was 12, but it took me until I was 15 before I was ready to admit it to my team and my family. My parents told me after I announced it that they’d always known I was awful, but didn’t want to say anything to me about it. I think they were waiting for me to feel like I was ready to talk about it, and I am so grateful to them for their patience and understanding as I fully come to terms with how bad I really am.

“I’m excited to get the chance to improve my goalkeeping, and who knows, maybe even sit on the bench for an A-League club one day.”

A 3D concept image of what the academy will look like upon completion in 2017.

Bailey and dozens of similarly dreadful goalkeepers around the country have been offered scholarships at the academy, which has pulled off a major coup by recruiting as its inaugural Head Coach one the most widely-respected goalkeepers in Australia, Matthew Nash. Adelaide United is hoping Nash’s years of experience at several A-League clubs will prove invaluable in the task of rebuilding shattered careers.

“Matthew is very excited about his role as Head Coach. He has somewhat of a reputation as being merely a ‘back-up’ or injury cover goalkeeper, which we feel is an unfair reflection of his true abilities. We’re confident he will enjoy the opportunity to help sub-par goalkeepers reach their full potential – especially ones from the A-League.”

I assume this thread has died somewhat because a lot of us are also on WATR but in case you aren't...

We've been running polls on there after each match day to vote for a fans player of the season. The last 2 years this award was given at the clubs official award ceremony so while it's independently run (board members contributed to purchase the trophy) it's also nice that the club recognises it.

If you were at the game last night, sign up and vote :)

I thought the WATR forum had closed at the end of last season because of the FFA?
Glad it's still going as it'll give me something more to read, and as I only throw my 2 bob's worth in every now & again it'll give you guys a chance to read an old bloke's perspective

Your thinking of red out loud. Which was a club initiative for fans to directly ask the club questions and have it answered.

We are the reds , is a fan forum that has managed to organise and run the fan funded award every year . Id like to think the forum had a part to play in contacting media and club and getting the fans voice out there when things were not so rosey. Watrs has been around pretty much since the start but as adelaidereds.com

Its a very level headed forum with little to no trolling

Check out the matchday jamboree threads on away games, its full of ex-pats all over the world hunched over their computer trying to find a stream and supporting the reds.

Imo best aufc forum around

 But having that site still going is great.
Telling us of upcoming events via the club website is slow and at times glacial, the media ( TV ) as I just can't bring myself to buy that paper crap, is meagre to non-existant. So I rely on these forums for info.
Red out loud was good, but now is sooo slow I've given up on it, FN is 80% arguing and jokes I swear are written by 7 year old's
So thanks

Seems to be a likely starter. Started most of the pre-season games he's played in. I haven't seen much of pre-season but he's had some fairly positive reviews from people who have.

Unless we snatch Troisi, I think he's a very likely starter. Has been playing in a more attacking role (the Poostica kind of role) and Gombau clearly likes what he sees with him.

A mate visited Hindmarsh today and tried out the seats. Supposedly very comfortable but ironically you will only ever catch him standing down the North end so I'm not sure he knew what the old seats were like.

Come to think of it, last time I was seated at a reds game was when we played Gold Coast in a final. I was the most hungover I've been in my life and nothing was comfortable that day.

jlm were you the one with the 'Jeggo' as Lego signature, last season? That was quite cool. I wonder if the AU activate support might take that up? Guess depends if he becomes a cult figure over AU way or not. :p

I suppose dumb question, but to form the 'AUFC' are the seats removed or just coloured similarly to the concrete below? :? If they're removed it seems a shame for reduced stadium capacity, but then again I suppose not if it's the top tier of a side stand, as usually that part of a stadium is one of the last to fill, come larger crowds (That's the case with Glory's ground anyway)? :-k

BTW I notice the renowned 'Vidmar' name there too - I presume it's called 'The Vidmar Stand'?

How's Jeggo been going in pre-season? Is he likely to start this season?

jlm were you the one with the 'Jeggo' as Lego signature, last season? That was quite cool. I wonder if the AU activate support might take that up? Guess depends if he becomes a cult figure over AU way or not. :p

The white and black seats are yet to be installed so hence the concrete grey and it's the Vidmar end (Pickard end is the Northern end).
