Its not a formation that you would use in the international level, that basic tactical level would not cut it against higher level opponents who have better players that us.

The Olyroos is a prime example for it because thats his coaching not anyone else.

this was the whole problem with the nt pre ange.  lolger osieck years of playing inactive rusty bench warmers with performances so poor and so lacklustre that our socceroos captain - lucas neill - was getting booed at home games.  dont forget how bad it got there.  timid squad selections based on names and hype rather than actual week in week out performance.

arnie is nowhere near as bad.  he also has a respect and knowledge of the local game.  problem with arnie is that he has his favourites and he seems a little bit blind around them. nowhere near as bad, but it happens.

Ange was also biased. He liked playing brad smith despite sitting on the bench for Bournemouth and not getting any game time. Seriously his performances were horrible but he kept persisting with him. 

Gonna do another best Australian XI. I'm a big fan of Deng + Souttar in central defence. But I think Trent Sainsbury is indispensable. As far as I'm concerned, given our shakiness in midfield and his ability to play as a CDM, why not redeploy him there?

Irvine's selection is a call based on the experience he has (despite lack of minutes at club level). Obviously, if McGree, Teague, Francois or Genreau do fantastically, week in, week out, at club level, then you'd swap them. Daniel Arzani off the bench.

Nice team Quickflick, Ive thought for years Rogic on the right wing playing slightly narrow could be interesting. Reduce his box to box expectations and just let him create.

Ryan had knee cartilage surgery around July 27th. That was supposed to lead to 4- 6 week out so he is unlikely to be selected

He is the one pushing for inclusion in the squad, so it must be pretty much right to go 

Mooy? As much as I like Tommy Deng, he's not even making the bench of his club team at the moment, so can't be picked to start for our top team when you've got Degenek, Sainsbury, Tongik & Good are probably ahead of him in the pecking order, otherwise he probably would've debuted last time with Metcalfe, Genreau & Tonyik

Will Ryan be available?

Judging on the form at the Olympic. Deng was one of our best player. Deng and Soutar looking solid at the back. Degenek didn't play too well for national team especially his passing.

Have to agree. Poor degenek had that bad pass in acup that led to Jordan goal in quarter final loss 😐 Deng should be ahead of degenek from now on

It’s a funny one because he plays arguably the most of any aussies abroad but every time he plays for oz he seems slightly off the pace.

So one bad pass & he's blacklisted? Deng started most games last season, but he's barely making the team sheet this season. He had a really good Olympics when he was playing CB next to Harry, but he's not playing enough at the moment to leapfrog Sainsbury & Degenek. 

Didn’t mention Sainsbury- no way i’d ever drop him cos he can play CB or CDM better than most

Game vs China in Qatar will be at 10am AEST, which means it's being played at 3am local time. Possibly the strangest kick-off time i've ever seen. Makes more sense when you consider heat and the times its being broadcasted to China and Aus but still very odd. Wonder if that'll mess with players jetlag etc.

The Vietnam game seems correct for 2pm CET on my pc. 3am local time sounds insane unless they're hoping for some kind of temperature reduction. 

Seems the kick off in Qatar is TBC now. 

Can't believe I forgot Jeggo. He possesses leadership and does the dirty work. Luongo isn't done yet. Great game on weekend and he's mature now. Irvine will probably be somewhat fit in time and will get selected nonetheless. We'll only know in hindsight if it was worth it. Iredale stakes a claim. Behich hasn't been playing. Smith should be able to travel over though.
