Rangers did report Neely, The father of the abused boy was a policeman. Still a sickening crime.

It was not systematic unlike at your mob who have i believe 7 convictions with one or two multiple convictions.
Remember Stein widnae report Torbett to the police as it would have darkened Celtic's name.
McNeill also openly testified in court that it was an open secret at Parkhead.

"THE SFA say they were "unable to establish" whether Rangers' paedo coach Gordon Neely was ever reported to cops." One of the victims was on TV before the investigation started saying that the police never approached him or his family about an interview or even a chat about what had gone on, indicating nothing was reported by the club.

The BBC investigation shows us a copy of the Rangers News at the time which says: "Rangers Youth Coach Gordon Neely resigned last week after spending four years at Ibrox. Neely, who was previously with Dundee United and Hibernian, has decided to go into business. The Club wishes him every success in the future". So you're telling me that's not a cover up? It still amazes me after the 192 page independant review of child abuse in Scottish Football rangers supporters still trying to point score over child abuse, hypocrisy at it's finest.

It's a complex issue. You have to read/listen to stuff like this to really understand it. https://culturewars.com/news/sex-abuse-homosexuality-and-the-catholic-church?rq=abuse%20crisis

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Nothing to do with point scoring, you are the one who wanted to highlight lies and i replied with the facts.
I condem child abuse no matter who does it.
Anyhow this is not the place for this subject. Matter closed for me.

Sort of hard to get convictions when they were all topping themselves (John Chalmers, Harry Dunn) however Kenneth Watson was jailed in 1992 for child abuse which occurred when he was playing for rangers.

Gordon Neely another horrible paedo who was not reported to police by Hibs or rangers even though he was sacked by both for abusing the youth players, Souness sacked him after the player had told him of what had happened- yet didn't think to report it to the police, head in the sand stuff if you don't think there was child abuse going on at your club.

The [FACT] that the A&E intake on "Derby Day" goes up by about 900%, plus the numerous deaths directly and/or indirectly related/linked to the match is the stuff that can/should leave you speechless in disbelief.

If you don't know or come from certain parts of Glasgow, Belfast (and some other areas in Scotland and Norm Iron) you just don't/shouldn't go out.

With that said, the tension leading up too, and especially on game day is something special to witness. It has a crazy, weird, amazing, exciting feel about it.

There is a reason why nearly all games between the two teams have a '12-noon Sunday kick-off'.

Its ingrained deeper than LFC/United in some ways being the closer geography might I add forgetting the other politics and the speechless stuff as mentioned.
Some supporters are just plain cockheads.
10mins apart compared to just over 30mins Liverpool/Manchester.
Its in your backyard.
Love the games, yes I'm from wayway over here but have watched many since Moore played @ Rangers, followed by Dukes @ the Hoops.
Bring it on....

Depends what you're comparing. If it's the vicious hatred that the fans have for each other Im sure it wins out.

In that context any UK rivalry pales in significant to something like Boca vs River Plate.

Wrong post quoted. That said the reply could also be directed to your comment, so I'll leave a copy of my comment here also 🙂

I want to go to a Boca - River Plate match so I can compare the two derbies against each other.

The other match I would like to attend/witness is Celtic and Rangers at Ibrox. I been to a few derbies at Celtic Park, but never/as of yet Ibrox.

I have always wanted to go to a 'Boca vs River Plate' match (along with pretty much every other football fan) as the experience will surely be one to remember. At the same time I could/would be able to compare the two derbies against one another.

Have you been to 'any/both/either' of the derbies ("Boca vs River Plate" and/or "Celtic vs Rangers")??

The reason I ask is because of your comment stating – "Any UK rivalry (a category the Glasgow Derby fall in to) pales in significant to something like Boca vs River Plate". So just curious as if you have had the chance to experience either/both of the derbies.

The other match I would love, but yet to attend is an away day at Ibrox for the Glasgow Derby. I have been to a few Glasgow derbies at Celtic Park over the years, but I am yet to experience it at Ibrox.

One of the best books on football ever written, Football Against the Enemy by Simon Kuper, first published in 1994, has a chapter on Celtic and Rangers. I just re-read it last week then ordered another more recent book dedicated entirely to the rivalry from the Book Depository, although the name escapes me now. I ordered this next book so my kids could give it to me for father’s day! Anyway, I love the concept of football intersecting with social, cultural, economic and political issues.

Mate check out some eastern European derby's for exactly this....  I've seen Red Star vs Partisan at the "Marakana" and Panathinaikos vs Olym-pussy-acos at both Leoforos and Olympic Stadium countless times (before they banned away fans) ...holy shit the hatred and violence is real.  Rivalries are developed over differences, whether they are religious, social, political what have you... Catholic vs Proddy or Slumdogs vs Millionaires  works in Scotland and Argentina but here in Australia we went with "the distance derby" and the "f3" derby tra la la la la

Re (1) – If you do remember the name of the book could you please let me know either here in the forum, or a PM, sounds like something I may like to read. Many thanks in advance 🙂

Re (2) – While the topics you mentioned definitely helps to give football club's their identity, and helps with the building of bounds between the and fans (the whole tribalism within football) and clubs, it does allow/makes things easier to get out of hand, and fast.

With all that said, I do agree with you pretty much 100%. Fans don't pick which football team they follow, the football team picks them 🍀🇮🇪🇳🇬🍀

Yep a tough game but well done to Celtic, both goals could easily be avoided due to poor individual defending from both centre backs but otherwise AZ Alkmaar didnt create alot of chances to put pressure on Celtic in the second half.

It also helped that Eduard came in and held the ball up in general play, Rogic unfortunately looked ineffective.

It certainly made for stressful viewing but they got the job done, now the old firm derby is next.

yeah Rogic was like a man down once again in Europe and the same with Turnbull, good to see some faith being put in young Adam Montgomery when Taylor got injured, and he repaid Ange by being one of our better players. Hart and Starfelt still look unconvincing but getting through against a side that will more than likely finish top 4 in the Netherlands is a decent achievement given we hadn't had a win in Anges first 3 games. It's probably the best chance to win against rangers on Sunday given their poor form and covid problems, even under Lennon last season we went there and had the better chances (they had 0 shots on target) in the game but Edouard and Moi couldn't finish, given we have no problem scoring under Ange our attack should be too much for them- 2-1 to us.

I love football books and have too many! They sit neatly on the shelves with all
my history and politics books. Anyway, i ordered “Inside the Divide: One City Two Teams The Old Firm” by Richard Wilson, published 2012 from the Book Depository for $24.55 with free postage.
