Just read a Scottish article saying that Mooy is Ange's top priority in the January transfer window. Fuck I'd love that!

He may not have a club to manage in a couple of years time if the huns don't win the league.

He has reached his first Cup Final as a Celtic boss, so the first parts done, now he needs to win it 🙂

It will be interesting to see how he deals with and what he does with the crazy period that has just started ‐ Including the Saints match that was just played/finished it was the first of 14-16 matches that will be played until just into the New Year (roughly one game every 3-ish days). The busy and crazy schedule that always comes this time of year has arrived.

Yep big game.  I reckon as long as ange can win something this season he'll earn that contract for next year where hopefully we'll see his abilities at full throttle.

He needs a full squad of fit players, and he certainly didn't in the first couple of months.  To manage the game load he has rotated and rested key  players, not that the fans are understanding or accepting of it going off the forum comments.

I think he wants to do well in all competitions, but Europe especially, but again the fans seem focused on winning the league and beating Rangers for the umpteenth time over progressing in Europe.  I find that strange, but there must be some emotional reasoning behind it.

Yep, Angeball takes time to bed into a squad, and indeed you need a large squad of very fit players, especially during a period of games every three days, which as BrisbaneBhoy highlights, Celtic are about to endure up until the January break. And while some Celtic fans are willing to give Ange a break and recognise that they won’t likely see the benefits until Ange’s second season (should he earn an extension), the vast majority on their forums are intolerant of any excuse for a loss or even draw in any game. They simply must win. No excuses with injuries or tired players. This is surely a unique type of pressure  in football that must be hard to rival anywhere. It’s fascinating to watch play out.

I find that strange, but there must be some emotional reasoning behind it.

I'll comment on the the last part of your comment first (re the emotional reasoning) – The emotions like passion, reasoning (or lack of), to that of even hatred is incredibly high. You need to remember this is a fixture where fans/people get assaulted, attempted murdered to outright murdered. Where the A&E admissions go up over 900% when the two teams are to/play each other. Where even players, staff, and their property are attacked and/or destroyed, to even having attempts on their own and their family members lives.

To most sane/any person the above is unfathomable and completely unreasonable (which I can understand), unfortunately when it comes to football fans, sanity often goes off for a wee walk somewhere, especially when you when you have the mix of the strong passion that the you often see in the tribalism within football, mixed with alcohol, drugs and a wee sprinkle of hatred into the mix here and there.

I know the people use the term that it is a rivalry like no other (along with a couple of others), and many just believe it is an old cliché that gets thrown around, but unless you have witnessed it in person or been part of/in the middle of it you will never truly understand, regardless of how much you may have been told, heard etc of the likes/things I just mentioned. Being told, and witnessing/or being part of are two completely different things.

Now to your comment regarding "The fans seem focused on winning the league for the umpteenth time over progressing in Europe" – Yes it is true we value winning the League over all things else, and that will most likely never change.  That being said, at the same time we all would love to see our team progress in Europe.

Unfortunately, the day and age we live in it is pretty much impossible to do so with how stacked Europe is for the teams from the big rich leagues. Now I'm not saying it's not possible, but history and [FACTS] tell a different story, be that in Europe or a Domestic competition – Money talks, money buys success, and unlike the domestic scene, we don't have the resources to really complete and progress in Europe.

Winning the League is two fold ‐ (1) Bragging rights and the nice feeling you get when you win the League, while denying the other lot the chance of those experiences at our expense. – (2) Is for the chance at progressing through Europe. Firstly hopefully by being able to reach the 'Champions League Group Stage', and then staying and hoping to progress further (again while not allowing the other lot that chance).

Now, things may start to change a wee bit in the coming few years, as the Champions of Scotland will gain straight access to the "Champions League Group Stage' instead of having to navigate 2 or 3 difficult qualifying rounds to reach the 'Group Stage' for the first time since the Huns back in 2010/2011. With direct qualification to the 'Group Stage' you get a grannenteed something in the region of €15mil–€20mill, along with several more million Euros for each win or draw. Compare that to the rough €300k–€500k you get for winning a qualifying round.

So winning the Scottish League – Even moreso this season (while beating the other lot in the process) is even more important then in previous season, due to what is a stake, it could mean that we won't have to sell a player or two to help balance the books, it could mean we may be able to sign better players over time. It all comes down to (1) reaching the 'Group Stage' first (with direct qualification the easiest way) followed by doing well by picking a a couple of wins etc. But we must be able to do so more then the odd occasion if we are ever going to be able to properly complete and progress in Europe – And to do so, winning the league and not allow the other lot to get an upper hand is the only way to do so.

(PS) Sorry for the long post.

In addition to the Christmas video, there have been interviews and events (eg. a stage play he attended about a past Celtic great) where Ange has actually seemed happy. Noting it all could turn sour very quickly, given the prickly fan base, Ange is probably enjoying the total football life that exists off the pitch in Glasgow.

Fascinated as to where you rank Ange against recent Celtic managers - Specifically at getting the team playing "good" football. So far. I mean.

Some of the attacking highlights, even those that that don't turn to goals (i remember one involving a KYOGO backheel, during the build-up, that didn't lead to a goal- either the 1-0 st johnston game or the recent semi - and thinking "this is 'breath-taking football. As good as I've ever seen Celtic play"

I'd obviously biased and like anges/the-more-progressive team to win, but watching play like that is worth the ticket price alone. Goal or not.

I know rogers obviously keeps the ball on the deck and is a modern coach, arguably same level/slightly above ange cause he's actually won the trophies 'playing pretty'. But who else? any other former celtic managers with as an exciting first few months? - playing-style-wise i mean.

Genuinely interested, i know you can get stick here for being one-eyed, but you seem to know the game and I see you as a mine of Celtic-knowledge to plunder. Even if you were fairly sceptical like a lot of the Scottish-based Celtic fans when he was announced. :)

edit: oh and 2: What's the deal with the new Sevco manager? Do you know if he's bringing in his tem to replace the staff that did Gerrards tactical coacing (while stevie looked pretty on tv). God i hate rangers, mostly for what they represent & their solidarity with fashy/Right-Wing-supported-teams, I'm sorry for even brining them up lol.

I've done the occasional little google but I'm sure you're more plugged in than I. IF you were asking about my beloved Central Coast then it would be the opposite story

Ange enjoying himself at a play (and not just going grumpily, to one that his kids are in) fills me with a joy i can't explain.

I have ALWAYS  loved the big man and trusted his choices - even quitting after qualifying for the WC.

Thanks, this is a lovely anecdote.

The dream is that julian, forrest, etc get fit/fully-fit to rest the current stars during that period & then we replace with quality in jan. But youve nailed it - it's a tough period and a few dropped points will be understandable imo

NGL i kind of loved it.

Look, I'm sympathetic to your view: I detest 'lad/chav/whatever-it-is-in-scotland' culture - especially now its a fashion adopted by private-school, born-successful, kids of the upper classes, cause back when i was a lil younger (in the outer-inner-west-of-sydney) the people who wore stuff like that etc, stole 90% of those surprisingly-expensive-outfits (because they were poor or poor and disadvantaged) and it was tied to graffiti culture and actually meant something interesting culturally/sociologically.

Butttttt still; it was nice to see ange getting along with some people genuinely interested in his story and laughing and cracking some jokes idk. I get your point about how much worse it would have been if it was like B-league - but this wasnt that

Anyway, this is for 'the kids'. we have fozzie, hill & harps for poetic, astute analysis and this can also exist. As long as literally everything isnt like this, im chill about this and santo, sam & ed + the bullshit cross-promotion on ten aimed at mums.

A varied media ecosystem is good for the league imo & tbh this was a decent interview to me, but fair enough

Where do I rank Ange alongside recent Celtic managers??....

It's a bit had to judge as he has only been at the club for a few months, but what he has done in those few months has been nothing short of magical.

If I am to judge on style only, then he is right up there with Rodgers, and slightly ahead of Delia and Lennon. That said, style isn't everything as tactics play a huge part, especially in European competitions. So when it comes to tactics IMHO he still has a fair way to go when comparing to the three others I just mentioned. Tactically the top two (IMO) are Rodgers and Lennon followed by Delia than Ange. If you cannae win pretty, than win ugly. I will take an ugly win over a "pretty" loss every single time.

As I have said previously Ange needs to be able to adapt to what is happening in front of him during the game – Especially when it comes to playing in Europe. I've said it before you can't play attacking football at 100kph every game. As a club, we have history with that mentality and we often finished with nothing to show for. I will admit the times have changed and the domestic competition isn't as tough as it once was, so domestically he will get away with his style moreso than those of years past.

Back to tactics – If he can learn to change his style when needed (especially in Europe), where he may need to learn to let the other team to control possession, and hit those teams on the counter and get the upset win here and there, then he has the potential to go down as one of the greats who can leave a true legacy (will also depend on how long he stays at the club). But he still has a long way to go before he reaches that stage/level.

As for the other lot, and their new manager I cannae say whether or not he will bring in his own backroom staff, I've heard that he may bring in a couple, but you would be better off asking one of their supporters (ie 'Sutherlandbear' or 'A Bunch of Huns Hacks') on these boards for clarification with regards to van Bronckhorst, and any backroom staff he may bring in.

Not in the slightest plastic Celtic man.

He is not an Aussie for a start.
