this team has been thrown together very rapidly. it's enough to trounce the local league but not enough to take on a comparable team that is in form and has been for a few seasons.

next season, or after that, celtic will be a bit more cohesive in europe.

until then win the league.

Just a wee stat on Celtic in Europe since 2004. They have played 18 games after Christmas in this time and only won one of them.
The managers in this time include Strachan, O'Neill, Lennon, Rodgers and the Ronny Roar. Flange will be doing well to rectify that record.

(1) Optimistic take: Ange is putting all his eggs into the domestic basket.

(2) Rangers still has the depth to take on both fronts.

(1) Being knocked out of Europe could be a blessing in disguise, as now we only really need to worry about is the League. With all that said, Ange is still very naive when it comes to football in Europe. He showed it in the group stages and now in the knockout rounds.

When it comes to Europe, Ange needs to show he can formulate a plan B, C, D etc. There is no shame in adapting to your surroundings, or your opponent. One could argue that is a sign of knowledge and what is needed to get the results in Europe.

(2) Here's hoping the other mob can survive an extra round or two (as long as the do win the thing), as it wouldn't do us any harm if the Huns have to play with a back up fixture list. 😊

0-0 draw away for Celtic against Hibs overnight.  I watched it and while Celtic were flat Hibs did put eleven behind the ball. But Celtic stay three points ahead of Rangers because they had a 2-2 draw at home to Motherwell, after leading 2-0.  To be fair to both Glasgow sides, they both suffer from playing in Europe when the other Scottish sides aren’t. Sure, they have bigger squads and more money etc but the extra games and travel clearly have taken their toll over the last few weeks.  I have been listening to various Scottish football talkback shows for a few weeks now, all available on podcasts, and gee both sides of Glasgow are absolutely terrible to their own sides! Both managers were copping it in the neck this morning. And players too. Fans have every right to analyse and criticise but these two fanbases are rank crazy and deluded at times, which makes this fun to watch from afar.  Am loving the Scottish league this year, thank you Ange.

The reaction of the fans from both sides of Glasgow is so weird. It just highlights how football outside Glasgow always comes a distant second. Not outside Scotland even, just outside Glasgow. All football is seen through such a narrow lense by so many in Glasgow. It’s a sickness. The host of the Clyde One podcast I listen too has even wondered out aloud if this insular attitude holds Scottish football back - mind you, he is a Motherwell supporter. As an aside, many fans other than those of the big two despise the insular nature of Scottish football. What I find bizarre is the fact that so many other big clubs from the EPL, Serie A etc will similarly undertake money making tours in November but because of the derby fixation in Glasgow, and because playing an exhibition match somehow cheapens the rivalry (I can’t even fully explain it), the fans of these two clubs see this as wholly negative. The football has been great to watch this season but it really is like watching football in some weird parallel universe - so different culturally  from other leagues I have watched closely. All that said, it’s great fun, at least while Ange is there. Not sure it will maintain my interest when he leaves but who knows.

I don't get the rejection to this. How is this any different to a typical summer tour? These aren't SPL games. It's the world cup and while the players should just rest it's also an opportunity.

The rejection is not about playing games as most clubs in all leagues around the world will be arranging scratch games and camps and tours in November. The rejection is twofold as I see it, one being travelling to Australia is a long way, although this isn’t offending many, but two, and this is the kicker, it’s because both Glasgow teams are involved. I dare say if it was Celtic and a Bundesliga club or Rangers and a Serie A club, the hostile reaction wouldn’t be there. I’ve been reading a lot about the Glasgow sides this year and the hatred is cultural, political, religious (not as much anymore) and economic. So to play in an exhibition tournament together breaks taboos.

I agree. I am just saying fans of these two clubs are ‘different’! Of course, these two clubs have big overseas fan bases and Celtic at least like to talk this up. Celts all around the world apparently. Fans like no others, I hear. Maybe the Rangers fans are similarly self-indulgent, I don’t know, i’ve only been following Celtic fan sites. But taking your club to those fans overseas is a big no no all of a sudden. Weird. I’d be interested in your take on why?
Tell me I am wrong, but this proposal is only sinking like the Bismark because it involves Celtic AND Rangers, in my view. If it was only one of these with say a Bundesliga or Serie A club, the fans wouldn’t be bothered so much and would be happy for their clubs to make some cash in this World Cup window? It’s not as if the players not selected for the World Cup won’t be playing and training anyway, they won’t be sitting on a beach mid-season for five weeks.

be like LFC/Toffees joining hands do an exhibition here or anywhere else for that matter.
Rivals, especially same town cannot play a so called exhibition/friendly game.
How can you ? oh tell your players to back off, do not retaliate yer right, the moment one bad tackle occurs its on.
Rivalries are for the comp battles - not a show and make up.

The scottish fans are imploding with disgust

It is so difficult to give these Scotts the benefit of the doubt. It is alright for Liverpool (twice), Man U, Inter Milan, Juventus and others to visit but certain Celtic ultras are above it all ofcourse. Furthermore, the thought that by play their coveted derby with Rangers would cheapen the contest if it were played out here in Sydney, is absolutely ludicrous.
If the Scotts do not cultivate their blue chip brand, this derby will  taint in the future. They MUST take advantage of the generous opportunity, offered by the two billionaires (owners of Sydney fc and Wanderers). For one, Rangers would not be prudent to not come out here and get involved.
The ultras of Celtic that put up banners and voice their issues on this, are cocooned in their homeland and have an insular type mentality. They don't want to embrace change. Where is VAR (even though it is often ambiguous)? SPFL have the worst referees in Europe, old philosophies of allowing thuggery as an acceptable norm. For the time being, managers and their clients (players) should be giving that competition a wide birth really.
