It's been a long time since we won a first round game. And a long time since we've been in the top 8.

I nearly retired from Rugby League at the 76 odd min mark.
It’d be easy to pick out the negatives and I bet someone here can’t wait to do so.
But from where we’ve come from that’s not too bad a first step.
Over to you Marki.

I was stoked with the effort and discipline in the second half.... We dug in with only 12 on the field... Both centres missing plenty of game time forcing reshuffle... 2 disallowed trys.. . A few less errors in the first half and I think we win fairly convincingly... Plenty to work with, and plenty to work on...

Disallowed try’s to Avo and Dufty that were obviously try’s. JAC blew one himself and we should have found another two. Really struggled in the terrible conditions. But we made the most out of a shocking night.
The ref must have tipped the Cows because he was as bias as I have seen. He robbed us if the Avo and Duffman try’s. He put Hetho in the bin for a different penalty. Jacko even called him on it.
I was screaming at the tv with minutes to go. Clearly Fadow was offside.I was surprised the ref didn’t call it as he spotted the forward pass from Burto so easily.
Almost robbed. We won. Fuck yes. I love the Bulldogs!!!!!

Some much maligned players had big games tonight. JMK, Ockunbar and Jacko.
One game don’t make a winter but credit where it’s due. Probably 1,2 & 3 in no particular order.
Mention for Seafood Salad too. Just always turns up

Avo a definate try. Dufty marginal, but a well constructed play. The try that we did score was a nice play. Tough place to play especially round 1. Some defensive grit with 12 men, then multiple HIAs. Second half more like it, we were the better sidel

I tried to keep up with them but everytime i would post, its 3 pages behind! In any case, I'll take the win. We needed it. But dont be under any illusions that we are anything other than a bottom 4 team at the moment. We still use up 4 or 5 plays with forward settler runs inside the 30m and its the reason we cannot shut out games like that. Give yourself no hope of killing off the game and that last ditch play by Hammer can always bite you. I blame JMK, Burton and Averillo for this and Barrett for not sorting it out.

Marki, this is their first outing together under real competition conditions, they were in Townsville, it was p!ssing down rain, the ground was wet and it was also hot and humid. They may not have been ideal, but neither were the conditions. So I'll take the win and move on to next week.

The Bunker has helped us and also failed us. The fail will probably be overlooked and the headlines will be how lucky we were in a sloppy game. But Averillo was 100% robbed. The Bunker could not see the ball touch the ground conclusively and the call was held up BUT that was not the case. The Cowboys player did not have his hand under the ball. It was to the side and Averillo had downward pressure. It should not have mattered that an inch was obscured...there was more than enough empirical evidence to award it. Similarly I believe we were robbed with Dufty's no try. This was not a game for the purists, BUT to win on the road in north Queensland in round 1 is great. NAden looked slick in the centres. Burton's 6th tackle kicks were a welcome relief from what we have been offering. I do think Max King could be a great buy and was glad to see Seafood on teh run on side. He is hitting them up with more venom than last year. AND still alive in the "going through the year undefeated stakes"

I still can’t believe the ref didn’t see Avo put the ball down. And the pass to Duffman was line ball.
So happy with Burtons kicking. If he is not already he will be the best in the NRL.

Just watched the highlights. The way Josh Jackson celebrated at the full time whistle was as if he'd won the premiership. And it's only round one. Just shows you how tough the last few years have been and how much a win in round one means to him.
But that's how the dogs have played for as long as I can remember. Sloppy heart attack wins. The only time we blew teams off the field was the Barba/Hasler years.

The only time we blew teams off the field was the Barba/Hasler years. We have had big wins and a long sequence of wins in the past. Playing well in round 1, or winning is fairly rare. But this is a new look team in a new era, the past isn't relevant, except as a statement of our standards. Poor Jacko really needs some success. That is why I want some success before Jacko retires more than ever. We have all been through a lot since 2002, mostly big disappointments, especially the last 5 years. It is hard for fans, but it is harder for players and the rats like Klemmer jump ship. In spite of everything Jacko turns up every game and every training session and gives 100%, always trys hard, makes the extra effort, stays positive and never gives up. In a decent team he would already have a premiership ring.

Hethers deserves a massive rap for effort yesterday... Bit rough being binned 15 mins after a warning for previous infringements...
Would like to see more of Duff and centres sniffing around him and TPJ this week looking for offloads...
NRLol needs to sort out how the advantage rule is applied... Either so many metres toward opponents goal or so many passes...
Still think the bunker shouldn't be allowed to tip refs off on general play matters... But the official line is they don't... Science!!!...
