How does the NRLol think they are going to stop momentum based incidental penalties???… high shits, past the horizontal etc…
The bin should only be used for foul play… not for shit that was impossible to avoid unless rolling out a red carpet for the bloke carrying the ball…

100%.
It's just the injury brigade made some noise and now they are currently taking full action so they are not seen as being ignorant.

Give it afew more rounds and it will correct itself.

Would be great if NRLol ‘Kingpin’ Shammersly would provide some data on how much safer the game is since their Magic Round crackdown last year…
Claims of “players have adjusted their tackling style”… “players have adapted to the rules (interpretation)… Supported by what??? Less injuries, suspensions, binnings, less concussion, or is it simply Radley and Heathers being injured or getting slower???….

It will only correct itself id the bunker says it’s OK to correct it…

id like to see the bunker Chair the ARLolC meeting…

Yes.

Fox should replace Okunbor, 1 problem solved.

Dufty is the other player we need to replace.

Team selection and bench roation better that game, lost in the fog of no posession and energy.

We need to reboot confidence, energy and resilience in the side, not easy to fix.

Occasionally blending in more young players is the best bet. A young guy pumped to be making his debut can make a difference. ZDC was the right call, it didn't work because the team wasn't in good mental shape.

He definitely has the basic attributes. I don't know if he's ever played there so positionally and tactically he could be challenged.  Need to try in lower grades.

Irrespective of suspension, at some stage we need to play Toia or maybe Casey at fullback and even JAC.

I would have had more confidence to drop Dufty if our halves could create points but so far it hasn't really been the case. Burton is starting to come good at 5/8th but Flanno is just wasting a halves spot. Even JMK would be better at 7 than him.

Although i rate him and his tackle busting ability can be beneficial (bomb taking doesnt seem to be a problem) I would prefer he plays FB in reserves before he does it at NRL level.

But it's something the club should think about. I'm sure the player would be open to it knowing it can earn him good $$$ if he can make it

Credence, Casey and Averillo have more experience playing fullback.

We could try him at fullback in reserve grade.

He is playing wing in the NRL to ease him in, too valuable in that role for us.

Averillo has to stay in the centres until Kiraz and Alomotti are ready.

We can start Credence or Casey at fullback and possibly reshuffle the team late in the game.

In that late shuffle Kiraz or Averillo could be tried at fullback.

The reason for the shuffle is, if the young guy at FB runs out of steam.

The step up in pace from reserve grade is significant.

I agree.

I always had some doubts about Dufty but initially some hope that he might work out.
The last of that hope ran out about 3 weeks ago.

We need to try another option if only to determine recruitment priorities.

For Flanno I still have a small about of hope that he is the best option for this season.
For 2023 onwards I hope Hayward is the answer.

For this season it is probably between Wakeham and Flanno, I think Wakeham might be better, but not a lot better.

Sort out fullback first, Dufty must have had a role in conceding at least 10 trys this season, one per game or perhaps even more. Fullback is a great position to attack from, but a hard defensive role. Dufty just isn't up to the defensive side.

If the alternative doesn't leak 1 try per game, I'll settle for a bit less attacking impact, especially if it comes with fewer errors.

IMO Credence and Averillo are likely to be very dangerous running the ball from fullback. Casey not quite as dangerous but very solid and reliable with a knack of scoring trys off kicks.

Played juniors at FB.

Reece Walsh is 19, Jaydon Campbell 23 and Kiraz has 5-8kgs respectively on them and 6 plus inches.

If they can handle the phycality so can Kiraz.

He looks a FB prospect, so just give him a game or two and then back to the wing or not.

Ideal situation would be to hook Dufty at the 50 min mark ant Kiraz have a run.

FB, centrr wing ir even 5/8 he’s got more hope than
 Averillo

I am more talking about fitness at this stage, he struggled a bit at centre in his debut.
That is something that can be fixed.

I don't rate much of  Dufty's game, but he does mostly cover the turf.

I know you don't rate Averillo but he is bigger, and hopefully harder than Dufty.

Credence bigger still and showing great positional sense in reserve grade.

Casey probably the biggest of the lot, not as fast, I recon Dufty, Averillo and Credence similar pace.
But Casey can tackle hard and is a smart skillful player.

Every young guy deserves a chance on merit.

Kiraz is also a great centre / winger and long term definitely a better centre than Averillo.

Averillo played most of his lower grade footy at 5/8 or fullback. I would give him on game at fullback or at least 20 mins, becuase speed and footwork Credence and Averillo are the most likely. I know that he hasn't had a greast season, playing centre doesn't suit him, and he rarely gets early ball. He needs space and time to use his running game, plenty of that at fullback.

Its abit of a worry when we have so many players and so many positions without knowing who is right in what position.

IMO GUS has to spend some time with the coaches and decide what type of gamestyle(s) the Bulldogs can play, and where our roster sits in playing those styles and whether we can improve on these by developing within or with key recruitment.

We seem to have a plan to fix the junior pathways but I don't see any forward progression in any of the first grade team. It's just trial and error with no foresight.

I wasn't a big fan of TPJ when we got him especially for the coin and length of contract but so far, he's the one that has impressed me the most. Even though we have alot invested in him and Kikau, I think we can afford it. But we really must get rid of JJ and Thompson to free up cap money for a good FB and HB. Otherwise we haven't fixed anything regarding lopsided cap spending.

I have changed my opinion on reflection.

The edge of Stimson, Flanagan, Averillo and Okunbor was a disaster in attack and defence.

I know think Kiraz in the centres is essential.

What to do with Averillo, 4 options.

1. Drop him.
2 Play him on the wing instead of Okunbor.
3. Play him at fullback instead of Dufty.
4. Play him at half instead of Flanagan.

I don't really mind which option we take, I would probably take option 4, with someone else replacing Dufty.

Starting 2nd rower on that side needs to be a decent defender, IMO Jackson or Topine.

Regardless that edge combination seems all wrong.

Dufty was in the frame for the last 3 Tigers trys, the kick chase was well executed, so perhaps a bit unlucky there.

The 2 soft barge overs, he contributed and not in a good way.

Okunbor on reflection not actually that bad this particular game, the trys we leaked were more down to the other 3 guys. Stimson was too slow to help Flanagan, Averillo was torn between helping Flanagan and marking his man.

I blame Stimson and Dufty, Stimson needs to get there in time, and Dufty should be scrambling.
Flanagan and Averillo not bad defenders for small guys, but should not be defending next to each other.

Attackwise I have never seen Averillo so impotent, Flanagan just can't give him the right pass at the right time.

Fix this, and we will be more competitive.

I give ourselves a good chance against the Dragons next Sunday . On Friday with only 30% of the possession scored 22 points in 40 mins  should give more confidence to the team .
I think the  full week with Potter training the team the boys should rise up .

The more I think about it, I am warming to a right edge combination of Kiraz and Okunbor.

In particular both are good in the air, put up a high kick for Kiraz to attack, if it is slightly over hit, Okunbor is in the frame.

The lack of trys off kicks on the right side is surprising as is a general lack of points on that side of the field, Kiraz will help with both issues.

Mulling over the past weeks events and I have had time to reflect. I have to admit I really do like Barrett and I was hoping he succeeded but having said that, there were three issues that brought his downfall. Firstly I must say he has a fantastic football brain and does have a good grasp of the game but he over-estimated the players abilities to understand and execute complex gameplans. His gameplans were too advanced for the average player so there was a breakdown in communications in that department and he then compounded the problem with failing to re-assess and simplify. Secondly he protected his underperforming coahing staff and should have taken action when it was realised we were gassed early in matches. Lastly, there is no problem with being friendly with the players outside of football but as their coach he should have been hard nosed and laid he law down to them both at training and on the field. That era has now passed, and is now onward and upwards. Go the Dogs.

100%. Agree.
I had hopes for him even though we got the spoon last year, although some concerns started creeping in.

What did it for me, is his inability to recognise something not working and being man enough to rectify it and admit it as failure.

Contrast his interviews with Kevin Walters who wasn't afraid to admit error on his part and chante things around.

All water under the bridge now, but he has effectively killed off any hope of a future head coaching career.
