How can a team dominate so much in the first half and score 32 points to zip and yet fail to score a single point over the second 40 minute session. Souffs were poor all night, they are not contenders in 2022.

It rates great on Wednesday. The plan obviously was to have the game played for three weeks in the middle of the season on a weekend. But selling that doesn’t bring the money the players want.
It might change one day but it won’t be anytime soon unless the NRL start making money off things other then tv rights.
Just hope that our team isn’t hurt by origin too much. Just sign as many New Zealanders as possible

Just sign as many New Zealanders as possible The original concept was a winner takes all game then 2 games to win ie if one team wins two in a row then the series is over but they began rubbing their hands together and saw the third game as one of redemption even if a team had lost the first two. And that is the way it is promoted...your team still loses but not by quite as much.I wonder how many are true rugby league fans? Do they follow the week in and week out NRL games so intently or is it a once a year offing. I couldn't watch the first game as I went to Penn and Teller and I really didn't give a schite. I would watch it and probably enjoy it but couldn't give a toss who won.

Lower grades could keep playing and some NRL players could play some reserve grade for match fitness. But why does SOO need to be mid-season, when conditions for fans and players at night can be cold and wet. We could have a month of rep games after the NRL season, in better conditions for night footy and with no impact on the NRL season. Internationals between minor countries overlap the last few weeks of the semis. There is an issue where players want to play for their country and for SOO have internationals at the same venue. So players who miss SOO selection can still play a game. No system is perfect but internationals would help keep players fit for SOO.

With the draw currently 16 teams, 25 rounds.
Next year 17 teams and ultimately we should aim for 20 teams.
Then 19 rounds every team plays every other team once, home and away alternate years.
Then have a 10 team semi final series that goes on extra week.
Bottom 10 teams play a nines tornament mid-week with international teams.
Overall 5 weeks carved out for the end of season rep games have SOO in the first 3 weeks and bigger internationals in the last 2 weeks.
Players would only have 1 week to back up for SOO, but that adds an additional layer of challenge and is the same for both sides. A 2 week break between SOO games or any other combination is possible.
The other option is a few additional derby games at the end of the season with teams playing traditional rivals.
In that case 3 weeks of derbys and drop the extra week of semis.
I guess we would play, Parra, St Merge and Souths in the derbys.
The fact that derbys might impact on the semis, adds to the spice. I would never get tired of making Parra miss the semis.

Fair enough, there are other ways of achieving a similar outcome. The issue is TV rights which needs a certain number of games, this is why we have 25 rounds.

With the apparent lack of talent there are a few issues beyond the number of players and their DNA.
Many teams are over coached and players like Munster who back their instincts are rare.
Messages players are getting ages 14-18 are a factor here.
A good academy system can develop players in tne critical 14-18 age ranges. If we go down the expansion route is should be mandatory for all new clubs and eventually all clubs to have an academy.
If 14 seems young, they start at age 6 in UK soccer. But I think 14 is a good starting age for us.
Players outside the top 30 can't play NRL until after round 10, a stupid rule.
SOO also impacts on the quality of games as does wet night games. Any expansion should mean more daytime games.
The cap doesn't do a good job of distributing talent evenly, more clubs having academies will help.
For some reason many apparently talented lower graders don't make the cut. The problem isn't a lack of ability the player loses confidence and develops bad habits. We need a better way of rehabing those failed players in the lower grades or a alternative comps. This is where relaxing the top 30 rule can help, clubs should be able to draft in temporary replacements for injured players and pay them match payments.

The best talent in the q cup and NSW Cup are unused top 30 players sent down by their NRL clubs, so they are out as options to fill the extra spots. A couple of years ago the NRL admitted they were losing boy players in the 15 to 18 age group and the growth was due to women's participation. That is the worry.

But that’s the problem. If we don’t expand we continue to lack the talented juniors. Desperately need sides in Perth, second New Zealand and even PNG.
The argument that there isn’t enough talented players has always been short sighted. We can only improve talent if we increase juniors. And it’s very hard to increase juniors without a first grade side to inspire them.

I would never get tired of making Parra miss the semis. A big no to 20 teams. 120 extra top 30 players. No attempt to expand the game only the number of teams. Too much rubbish being served up now. But that’s the problem. If we don’t expand we continue to lack the talented juniors. Desperately need sides in Perth, second New Zealand and even PNG.
The argument that there isn’t enough talented players has always been short sighted. We can only improve talent if we increase juniors. And it’s very hard to increase juniors without a first grade side to inspire them. Micko!!!!… Same dealer!!!… ;)

+x+xWith the apparent lack of talent there are a few issues beyond the number of players and their DNA. Many teams are over coached and players like Munster who back their instincts are rare. Messages players are getting ages 14-18 are a factor here. A good academy system can develop players in tne critical 14-18 age ranges. If we go down the expansion route is should be mandatory for all new clubs and eventually all clubs to have an academy. If 14 seems young, they start at age 6 in UK soccer. But I think 14 is a good starting age for us. Players outside the top 30 can't play NRL until after round 10, a stupid rule. SOO also impacts on the quality of games as does wet night games. Any expansion should mean more daytime games. The cap doesn't do a good job of distributing talent evenly, more clubs having academies will help. For some reason many apparently talented lower graders don't make the cut. The problem isn't a lack of ability the player loses confidence and develops bad habits. We need a better way of rehabing those failed players in the lower grades or a alternative comps. This is where relaxing the top 30 rule can help, clubs should be able to draft in temporary replacements for injured players and pay them match payments. The best talent in the q cup and NSW Cup are unused top 30 players sent down by their NRL clubs, so they are out as options to fill the extra spots. A couple of years ago the NRL admitted they were losing boy players in the 15 to 18 age group and the growth was due to women's participation. That is the worry. I’d reckon the majority of sports are increasingly losing boys that age… and have been for a while… for plenty of reasons… The ‘participation numbers’ are definitely skewed… I think my favourite skews to date have been NRLol including touch footy numbers… and if I remember correctly CrockA absorbing MILO numbers…
