I've seen tweets from FA board members congratulating WU on kicking goals off-field.
So we have to be clear, the FA does not give a fig that the WU bid told blatant lies about what it was going to do if give the license.
And let's all be honest - we all knew that it was clearly an impossibility that WU could deliver on their promise within 20 months - so why did the board buy it?
Also, it's not mere luck and coincidence that City has taken over Casey Fields.

We've been trying for years to gain state and local governments to support and hopefully fund our game of football and now that we have some commitment the haters come out and shit can. I guess their own little hidden agenda's cut to deep. Lol.

Nice try pal. $100  million can put on lights, improve changing facilities and build more pitches for 50 real non for profit soccer clubs in the west of Melbourne to look after 2 to 5,000 football players....... Do that and nobody says boo, In fact real football in the west would certainly benefit from it.....
Hidden agendas????  Hahahah you charlatans can't fund the stadium you swore was shovel ready and now go begging to every asshole with a wallet to build you something ..... running out of time and money...... this is delicious.

Bettega, maybe note down the names of the FA board members you have noticed pushing the WU bandwagon for future reference.... Perhaps some of their support will start to diminish over time. The parcel of land at Sawyers road  has not had planning permission yet and the developers haven't yet been able to transfer  title ownership of individual blocks to those that were promised them... Hard to see the builders starting work for a decade or so now.......

This whole episode has myriad opportunities for much mirth.
Apparently WU used a picture of San Jose's stadium to model what their new three-sided stadium will look like:

Also, let's say hypothetically, the Libs win and follow through on their promise to fund the stadium. That means the project will almost definitely need to go through the tender process as it would then be a public project. Adding more delays. Then there is the issue of when the funds will be allocated as this needs to fit into the budget. So already we are talking about next the financial year budget at the earliest.

Political parties know that these sorts of projects aren't going to bring in millions of votes. These projects are more likely about locking gov money in for their friends. There would be some sort of backroom agreement with a particular developer/builder already in place. They would still need to go through the tender process, but ultimately the gov would hand the job to the mob they have already selected. Both major parties do this sort of thing.

That proposal is a Jeff Kennett inspired 19th Afl franchise out of Tasmania. Not for WU. It would be round and can shut with a roof.A budget stadium.

Respectfully are you trying friend? Would WU play at an NPL team's Stadium you mean? There are no rectangular generic stadiums in Victoria that are TV ready apparently, why? Afl's round stadiums everywhere is the reason.
Honestly, countries around the world looking in on the shenanigans in Australia, how on earth is AFL more popular than Football. On that alone, that is so backward, like the perception that Kangaroos run around the streets and Koalas swinging in the trees like Tarzan in Sydney and Melbourne.

No mate, that's what they want to get away from, Round Stadiums. AAMI is the only way atm.
Surprising you have that opinion. They have to get that training stadium up and running to start with.
They say the following season. WU owe the A League that and everyone can stop suffering.

Interesting how it will eventually play out for WU.
I hope they grow their fanbase. They will need to play at home for that to happen, when it gets going eventually.
I have a quick Melbourne restaurant story that parallels with your thinking  in regards to WU not going to grow their fanbase. It's an only in Melbourne story I reckon.
I went to Lygon St (Carlton?) To see all the Italian restaurants I'd heard about. Tt was a typically busy Sat night I'd say.
Afew blocks in, there were two particular restaurants next to each other, one was Italian, the other something different, European though, I won't say. There was a Massive line to get in at the Itaian one, the other was completed empty.
Not one person inside. Right next door, both looked like very tidy places to go and eat. The true loyalty to the Italian restaurants because it's Lygon St, I thought.
Having experienced that nothing will surprise me.
That could be the case with the fan base situation. Fans may not leave their clubs to start supporting WU  due to their undying loyalties.
What may save WU as time goes on, Wyndham City is nowhere near the older NSL clubs, as they are all in and around Melbourne, the City ( besides George Cross).
The target market for them is mainly near the new precinct which is going up  40 + klms from Melbourne.

Yeah i saw that. If they built a walking track parallel to the train line from the new station location to Wyndham stadium, I would estimate it to be about 2km or a 20 minute walk. Maybe slightly closer if the station is located west of David Rd. Not ideal for WU, but not the end of the world either.

The station for Sayers Rd might be the one they are referring to as "in the planning".  It makes sense that it isn't in this lot as the customers won't be there until the houses start being built.

I was thinking that they were only building 1 train station. but with so much growth in the area, and future electrification coming, there is scope to build Sayers Rd as well.

I've seen a council update on the training facility.
Regardless of how 'compromised' it is from the what was 'shovel ready' and promised.
Western United HAVE to play games there next season as AAMI Park matches are a poor look and would see unsustainable losses.
At least it would be a home base to build a core following.
If they need temporary stands to get the seating capacity up and build up some hills behind the goals it's better than the current arrangement.

https://youtu.be/e0YCDQM0QUo

REGIONAL FOOTBALL FACILITY UPDATE:
Construction is progressing at a cracking pace! With the level one floor structure now in place and the pavilion taking shape, work is progressing onto the grandstand of the facility.
Works continue with the establishment of the football pitches and the surrounding road and utility supplies.
Located within the Wyndham Stadium Precinct at 1160 Sayers Road, the Regional Football Facility will be the training base for Western United Football Club and football across the West.
Once complete, the Regional Football Facility will feature state-of-the-art training amenities, including three football pitches and capacity for 5000 spectators at the main pitch.

Hope the training stadium is ready for next season. As a Melbourne-based A-League fan, it sucks having no derbies outside of AAMI Park.
