the pitch was completely awful so hard to read too much into it
mind you they will try and qualify on awful pitches. I'm glad they get a chance to form combinations now rather than in a knock out tournament. Shows the importance in investing in these tournaments
I'm surprised jelacic didn't start. We dominated territory and possession but needed a creative mid

meanwhile....why would Qatar bother timewasting so much at youth level? At international level sure (although annoying) but surely these kids want all the exposure and development they can get at this age

I don’t know how many times I felt frustration and disappointment watching the Socceroos over the years going all the way back to missing out qualifying for the 2002 World Cup. Those frustrating games sure outnumber the gems. So many games under different Bosses over 21 years and now watching a new generation of players and it’ feels no different. 21 years of loads of frustration. Disappointed with that result. Even the stream I watched didn’t even show the penalties after the full time whistle adding to further frustration. I guess they were doing me a favour considering the penalty result.

If it's any comfort how many of yesterday's team are in your starting xi for this age group? Talbot, Bos triantis, circati, gauci, jelacic, tillio, at minimum. Probably kuol, irankunda toure and volpato too if all available

We control the ball so often in games but we don’t do much with it in the final third. Again yesterday it was only Botic’s header that caused the Qatari keeper to actually do something. The Qatari defense was never put in a position of stress except at the end when they gave away the free kick. Our midfield didn’t seem to know how to move forward. Hopefully the manager gets that sorted next game.

Beating a packed defence on a rubbish pitch against a team that is less talented but has had way more he's together to organize well was hard even for our golden gen Harder again with our regular creators and scorers on the bench or on the plane On the plus side we are playing at least some more games than we were in the past at this level Needs to be even more games imo. FIFA windows should be used to friendlies between youth teams and a league clubs or something

Not sure what’s the symptom to this problem though.

If I say it’s because the NC values possession at all costs over forward movement and creating meaningful creative moments you will get upset so ....... I wont :) I’d say the NC values effective possession as said in the document…the problem is it’s more suited to quick attacks where you can play high tempo throughout the game. The problem is players aren’t taught well to be effective with long spells of possession where you have to be patient and probe where you face deep block defences especially in Asia where they try to slow the game down. Regarding your cheeky second part I’m not going to lie I’m a fan of the NC as it seems to have made a positive evolution to Aussie player development but as know with these things it’s not always perfect and it could always evolve with a few tweaks here and there.

There were quite a few YouTube live streams of the first game. If you search the Qatar game and choose the live filter they'll be there.
It appears a lot were in fact uploaded post game. Finding those channels will at least give some indication of a live or delayed telecast for those abroad.

Nice goal by Australia. JCP with a good ball and Garang can use his pace to get to it. Cross to Alou goes through and Vellupillay can score.

Vellupillay on the double. Garang with a strong low shot saved and it's put away.

Bility off with a knock. Rawlins on. Silly goal to concede with corner going through and unmarked man can rocket over Bilokapic's head.
Turns out the blonde topknot midfield is the Hannover 96 one.
Saudi have drawn with France and won that on pens but lost a shoot-out to Venezuela. We'll get a 4 game as there are positional placings as well and knock out stage.

our set piece defence is very poor. Hopefully with more time together that improves....
2 nicely goals from us though
still no where near our best team with tilio, neiwenhoff, talbot, triantis on the bench

51:50 for example. Some quick passing and numbers and Teague just trots back to his midfield head down not even looking to make a jolt and do something to create space. Just realised how anonymous Alou is today.

3:2 Australia. Teague can redeem a sluggish display but tapping it in from half a metre.
