+xTo be honest this is probably the worse Olymroos I have seen. The finishing are just unacceptable for U23. Check out the 2016 qualification shite. I've just looked at the squad. It was dismal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_AFC_U-23_Championshiphttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_AFC_U-23_Championship_squads2012 we didn't score in 6 games. No squad info. WTF even was that? I vaguely remember https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_Asian_qualifiers_preliminary_round_3

Which u23 afc cups have u seen Historically we have found the tournament tough with 2 group stage exits, a quarters exit, a 3rd only when we had arnie, a net negative for and against and less than 1 goal per game in our tournament history We have been flogged by japan and sk every time we have faved him. Even this 2nd string squad is the best we have ever had How they can be worse when this team couldnt score a single goal against anyone and even lost to Indonesia?

Yeah typically the u17s has been easier than the u20s which is easier than the u23. We just really struggle when we have to rely only on a league players. Hoping an 3xperienced coach can make a difference

At least we are frequently creating chances and controlling the game. Previous iterations were tough (tho i missed arnies year. Typical the one time we qualify) Also indonesia are probably the best in this group. Our seniors looked ugly against them and the u23 side has 10 players in the senior squad

+xWhy sub on a cb when we need goals? 2 cbs replaced! Weird. Must have given up and just want to give experience to players

Anyone hearing this commentator? They have no idea that Australia only been in Asia since 2006 but they were complimenting our past qualification efforts decades ago haha

So serious question: how do we qualify for the olympics gking forward?
Can we make the national coach in charge of the olyroos during qualification like indonesia do? Is there any hope we can get euro players
A league expansion and an nst will increase our depth spmewhat

I’d prefer being in asia

What happened to Garang Koul? Why is he so bad now? Couldn't dribble and physically disadvantage to everyone.

The talent pool is growing but we need that liaison with clubs worldwide where we can hopefully reach agreements on releases. There are clubs out there who respect a player's wish due to the fear of pissing them off and having them leave all together. We need to leverage that with our best.

Crazy there has been only one goal by either side in 270 minutes of our games. With so few goals a single player like irankunda or even tilio really could have made a difference

+xBrook will never make the seniors. Dude is hopeless Yeah been saying this for ages. I'm glad I don't have to watch him anymore. Good to see the 2001-03 guys move on. The 01's are very similar to years before them that plague the Socceroos with issues.

+xWhat happened to Garang Koul? Why is he so bad now? Couldn't dribble and physically disadvantage to everyone. Tbf I've been saying this for ages that Garang isn't as good as we make him out to be. He's physically weak. I remember even when he got picked for the Roos at 17, I was saying Irankunda > Garang and it's not close. Now the gap has become much greater. Garang needs 3+ years before he can contribute as a European winger.

The better 2004-2008 players will also leave before the tournament

Think he still has a great chance to make it

+x+x+x+xPersonally I think U23 is a waste of time and money. To assume we should beat Indonesia is simply arrogance. Why should we be better at football than Indonesia? They have more than 10 times our population and are becoming a powerhouse economy. Football is their number one sport. They have the pick of the best athletes. We don't. So why the assumption of superiority in football? Fact is that all the south East Asian countries are catching up. Fast. We are small country where football is sport number 3 or 4 for the best athletes. It will be more difficult for us to compete as time moves on, and we are seeing that now. These U23 performances are not some kind of glitch after which normal service will resume. And you what? That's a good thing. Strong regional football equals meaningful competition and more interest and hopefully a genuine ACL that means something... If our clubs are ever good enough to compete. Its not all about population. Its the quality not quantity. Otherwise China would have won the world cup. In terms of football they are still C class nation in Asia. Right now Indo are using many mixed blood players. These players grew up in Europe. Indonesia never made it to this last stage of U23 Asian cup b4 and this is their 1st win in their history. They beat the Oz cuz this Olymroos might be the worst team not because Indonesia is any good. You will see they will get trashed by Jordan in the last game. ASEAN teams are still far behind many arab nations. Indo 2-0 up at halftime and dominant. Keep underestimating, the gap is closing fast :) Vietnam was the finalist at this tournament 4 years ago. How did they go at senior level? one poor tournament performance from one nation doesn't change the fact that the region is developing rapidly. anyway I feel no need to convince you of anything, so like I said keep underestimating. the more people that do so the better

Is there any hope we can get euro players A league expansion and an nst will increase our depth spmewhat Many nations have complained about lack of access to Euro players to FIFA and AFC so I'm hoping next time it'll be during an international window, or change the format and make it over several windows, like the Matilda's qualifier. No Olympics for another 4 years anyways so there'll be an Asian Cup in 2026 with no qualification.
