Not prop. Never. In fact, never a forward. Maybe a hooker. Maybe.

Half and FB are the only positions but even then, it has to be for a decent saving per year, averaged over 10 years, or unless there is a massive shortage of talent in that position.

Props, second rowers, centres, wingers.....theres 2 or 3 or 4 in every team. There's no shortage. You want the best player, pay your 800-1M and hes yours.

Top FB and halves are not thst common. There's only 1 spot in the team for them and are the only positions you can reasonably think about a long term deal, and even then, you should dismiss it.

DCE has proven to be the exception.

Worth it IMO. (Could be a few more)

Props - Taumalolo, Tapine

Halves :-Johns, Locker, Thurston, Cleary, Walker. DCE

Fullback - Teddy,  Slater, Edwards, Walsh, Turbo, Ponga

Hooker- Api, Smith, probably Grant.

Melbourne tends to keep key players without needing long term contracts.

Absolutely essential for the Cows and Canberra to lock up key players on long term contracts..

Cows locking up Thurston and Taumalolo was the smartest thing they ever did. Most of their success including the premiership stems from that decision.

I do agree that very few props are worth it,  back in the day Artie Beatson is another. The prop has to have a big impact both sides of the ball, but particularly in attack,  play long minutes and provide leadership that inspires their teammates.

A lot if fans are sleeping on just how good Tapine is, if he leaves, Canberra will drop to the bottom of the table.

In contrast a guy like Payne Hass is overrated IMO, good player but he doesn't change the result of games often, just plays his role well and races up impressive stats.

Mostly I would sign a halfback and a Fullback before a prop, very few clubs will have a prop who is good enough or sufficiently unique. And the club has to do the deal early before the player has hit their peak, it is always a gamble.

Tigers could gamble on Galvin and perhaps their fullback. The only risk is that the player on the long-term deal gets lazy. If the guy loves winning and hates losing, the risk is small.  Injuries are another risk factor.

You dont need 5 days if you bowl first or declare early on day 1.....

Just pick 10 fast bowlers and a wicket keeper batsman...

6 or out every shot, no need to bat for long....

Then bowl the out twice for less,  book a function room at a club for the afternoon of the second day.

Well as long as we got Patty Cardigan in return, I am only slightly gutted.

Perham is ok as a winger / centre, but shouldn't make the   Broncos top 17.

If you are in need of forced regurgitation, instead of shoving 2 fingers down your throat, just shove a video of Hayze in a sweeping backline movement from early 2023.....

Around about the time he tries to cut back in, just let it all out.....

Should I take the Broncos coaching job?

I'm thinking Hass to fullback and Walsh to prop and a $1 million early payout might be worth it?

Was thinking the same thing.

Is it no coincidence Hayze Perham signed with them?

I reckon they consulted TBaz who advised the board that Hayze would make a very good FB. They then asked Kevvie for his opinion who replied negatively and so they sacked him.

A lot of the Dogs 2022 side would be available

Averillo at halfback,  Duffy at fullback....Okunbor at prop. Just what the Broncos need.

I wonder who we will be pushing for the fullback spot eventually. Connor Tracey is 28 and as much as I like him it’s only a matter of time before the next big thing comes through for us.

Papalii has been talked about for a long time. He certainly has some talent but he is not destroying them in reserve grade. And dropped back behind Taafe.

We don’t need to spend big yet but we might soon

There is a young kid who shouldl be playing junior reps next season who is very good.

Wilson  has also played a lot of fullback so 3-4  candidates at the club.

Next season we should have better props, Karl O will be a contender for lock. If we can create time and space for him Tracey is a skilful fullback.

I am think that we can finish top 4 and make a GF qualifier next year.

The key is improving our ability to score points when we are on top, so we can ease off in defence at the backend of some games.

Also more squad rotation or a bye late in the season, so we are fresh for the semis with fewer injured players.

The young fullback is called Glen, the vibe is that we will all get to see how he plays.

I have always been a fan of Pappenhuyzen.
He was sublime last night and along with Hughes setup the win. His footy snarts are off the charts and they are much needed in this team.

If we want to improve and make a fist of our premiership window in the coming years, we need someone like him.

Best of all, he is Bulldogs supporter. He'll easily become one of the most favourite players of all time if he was to spend 3 or 4 years here.

Storm really have their key players firing at the business end of the season.

The Roosters have had a lot of success in buying players.

Our recent purchases of Burton, Kiks and Critter have been good. But over the years most of our really talented players have been locally developed.

A big star like Pappy is such an obvious recruit,  often the chances are better with an equally talented young kid who is behind the NRL star at that c,ub.

An ex-NRL player doesn't rate Woods but does rate the young fullback I am talking about.

There are some good young players playing in the Flegg GF including the halfback.

I think our next premiership might have Woods at halfback, Glen at fullback,  Karl O at lock and some of the young guys from the Flegg side in the line up. The difference is we already have all of these players in our system,  no need to get into a bidding war.

My I didn't mind losing this year was that I think that many of the players were running close to empty.

Next season I think that we can win games with less effort have more squad rotation.

Top 4 is possible and a GF qualifier.

But I don't expect to make the GF next year,  this year we slightly overachieved my expectations,  but only because the played gave far more than I though they could and players like Tracey and Mann exceeded my expectations.

From here we should be able to climb one rung every season.

Make the GF in 2026 and win it in 2027

If we do win it in 2027 with a young team then we are in the mix for the next decade and might win a couple more.  If it is going to be thst good, I can wait until 2027.

In 2025, if we have Amone,  Talley-ho, RCG,  Fifita, Sutton,  Patolo,  Todd, Underhill, King, Curran, Hayes and Hopoi all on deck at the start of the season.  I prepared to estimate making the GF in 2025 and winning it in 2026.

That is a lot of depth and quality in the middle the complete opposite to 2024.

Storm v Penrith is a reasonable GF, it might be a close game.

Sharks actually improved, but I am not confident that they can take the next step.

I left Hughes out of my list of props.

The point is with plenty of middles Curran,  Hayes and Toups can play some second row.

We have good depth in all forwards positions and I think outside backs.

Should we get in the position that the Sharks were in we have more X-Factor in attack and we have the fitness to go set-for-set with the Panthers.

Depending on how Uncle Nick's cheque book performs,  the Storm may be the side that we find hard to beat in 2025.

Flegg GF is live on 9 Now app.

We won 14-12 .

Best Halfback Tia, especially first half.
Underhill and centre Afualo who made a lot of yards carrying the ball.
Centre Gabriel defended well and shut-down his brother.

Leading 14-0 at half-time and should have lead by more, Sharks second half trys individual brilliance and Dogs making a few errors.

Fair result in the end 3 trys to 2, game management is an issue for young dudes.
