Doubt it. The guy just doesn't know what he's doing. Seriously they have to get him of the rules committee because one day he's going to do something drastic that could possibly ruin the game.

There are a dozen other people who can veto any ridiculous rule changes that he tries to implement.

I know but he's a serial offender, just his ideas are ridiculous and I'm sure no one else has the stupidity to come up with such crap.

True, but they've been slowly turning the game into a ridiculous pansy sport for the better part of the last decade. He's just the embodiment of those stupid rules unfortunately.

I agree totally, I'm still pissed off by the sling tackle and sliding rules

When did these 'sliding' rules come about? It seems ridiculous that they're creating smaller and smaller permissible windows for 'tackling'. Let's just cut to the chase and make it touch football already.

Came about probably 5 weeks ago now. If you slide in with your legs its a free kick against. Very annoying, and it was worse when players were getting suspended for it.

It endangers the player. Fair enough too. Stamping out the issue before it becomes an epidemic.

Seems a little ridiculous when you're talking about a sport that's played consistently in wet weather where sliding has always been part of the game in some regard.

Head over the footy, none of this pussy sliding in. If you slide in, you run the risk. That's why they have implemented this. All about player safety

Guess you're right, just don't think its reportable is all. It is dangerous as was seen with Gary Rohan but its hardly reportable imo.

tbh. I was intially sceptical. You can't blame the AFL for trying.
It might get to the stage when you can only pick up the ball whilst on your feet ala Gaelic Football

Every rule change is about fucking "player safety". They're turning it into a pansy sport. Look at tapes from 20 odd years ago and see how much the game has changed physically.

Can't go head over the ball - that's charging.
Can't hip and shoulder - that gets you suspended for a week now.
Can't slide in - that gets you suspended too.

I guess if the ball hits the ground we'll have to pack things up and go home from now on. The sport has become ridiculous.

Your first 2 are completely wrong, particularly the hip and shoulder one. The sliding one is interesting. I can see what they're trying to do, but it's unnecessary.

The biggest benefit of the AFL pussying up was not paying too high for ducking, fuck, the West Coast Ducks were winning games with major assistance through that

Yeah, saw that they've now taken note, if a player ducks into a challenge, they don't pay a high tackle unless it's definitely there.

There have been plenty of incidents where players playing the ball have been rubbed out in recent seasons for the first two points.

It's happening in Union and league as well. For tackles that should be praised as the best of the season players are getting suspended for them. As a country we are becoming soft.

Really? Care to show them? Because Bumps like this, and this, are still perfectly legal, but you claim they're not?

But anyway, show us these 'plenty of incidents' if you could, thanks.

Twenty years ago this and this and this would have been laughed at as free kicks. Instead today they're standard practice.

All you've shown there are 3 soft umpiring decisions. The first one is soft, but it did look high. The 2nd doesn't actually show if it was paid as a FK, and the 3rd one doesn't even relate to your original claim.

Soft/Weak umpiring decisions sure, but you said those incidents were now worth suspensions. All you've done is further prove yourself wrong.

Cheers.

You know this is the thing I really don't like about these headllines wether its for the AFL or the A-League. This stuff doesn't represent all the supporters, and yeah I know its about making the $$$ but a story about a football bashing or a story about an AFL bashing aren't good for anything imo.

GREATER Western Sydney forward Jonathon Patton looks set to make his long-awaited AFL debut this week.
..Coach Kevin Sheedy tweeted the good news for Giants fans this afternoon.

"Looking forward to number one draft pick Jon Patton making his AFL debut this Saturday against Richmond at
Skoda Stadium," Sheedy said.

"Can't wait to see him on the same ground as Jeremy Cameron and Israel Folau who will return from injury."

Final teams will be announced on Thursday.

Sheedy indicated last week the 19-year-old was close to making his debut after four matches for the Giants' reserves.

Patton was named best in his team's 109-point loss to NEAFL contender Hills Eagles last Saturday week.

The 2011 top draft pick spent his first preseason rehabilitating from revolutionary knee surgery in Sweden.

Recruited from the Eastern Rangers, Patton was a stand out up forward for VIC Metro in the 2011 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and was named in the forward line of the 2011 Under 18 All Australian squad.

Promising player. Anyone compared to a young Jonathon Brown is exciting. Just hope they give the time key position players need, they take a lot longer to develop, and I'm not sure the fans out there will understand that. Still probably not as bad as being in the heat of a major Melbourne based club.

True, really feel sorry for Jack Watts. With JP there will be some pressure because he was a #1 pick but he's already had a knee operation so that should take away some of the expectation, very disappointing if not
