http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/essendon-drug-defence-hangs-on-whether-aod9604-is-an-illegal-substance/story-fnia3zb3-1226669509975#

Jobe Watson admits to taking a banned substance.

ASADA says it is banned.

But Bombers say they did nothing wrong.

AFL allow him to play this week.

This is nearly as good as having a tank but not really having a tank because no one knows what is a tank yet we all know everyone does it.

Gonna be interesting this one.

Big difference between admitting to taking a substance and admitting to be guilty of a doping offence. ASADA and WADA were already aware that Jobe and other players took the drug before Monday, but won't serve any infraction notices until after the investigation finishes. Being a team sport it gets pretty complicated as there are provisions that if the doping is widespread that there can be group punishments, rather tan individual ones handed out. It's not as if he has performance enhancing drugs in his system now. I do find it very unlikely that he will keep his Brownlow Medal though.

That would suck, being the first player to be actively stripped of the Brownlow.

What is the difference here?

Of course if you take it you are guilty of a doping offence, the doping offence comes from taking the substance? Whether you want to admit it or not. Why were they taking it then?

The point everyone seems to forget is that they were given drugs that were not approved for human consumption and yet no one bar one person within the club has taken responsibility for this.

This is like saying send your kids around and I will inject them with something, not sure what it is, but it may improve their performance and we have no idea whether it will do them harm in the future. Would you allow this?

Yet we defend this behavior because the coach played 250 games of AFL or it is a traditional club or he is a great servant to the game or whatever excuse we can find. What an absolute joke, nearly as big of a laughing stock as the tanking non event. It is all about brand protection and nothing else matters.

If this was a French cyclist those same people would be saying get this cheat out of the sport.

Gotta agree with this. At the end of the day they are all performance enhancing otherwise they wouldn't be taken.

I'm not defending Essendon, but we have so few facts that there is really no point in speculating. Hird, Thompson, the medical staff and administration all have levels of responsibility. Also, the difference is that Essendon believe they have proof that taking the drug does not constitute a doping offence. This could be due to an administrative error from WADA (unlikely), a forged document by Dank (likely) or Essendon covering their tracks (possible)

If WADA says it's illegal, it's illegal. End of.

The NFL is going through the same business right now with players having doctors diagnose them with ADHD to gain access to Adderall. As well as battling players over allowing testing for HGH.

Yes he admitted it but even well credited doctors have said this AOD-9604 has some cloudiness around it. Let the damn investigation run its course. West Coast fans are an absolute disgrace for booing.

So much butthurt over this. Get over yourselves. Any other club would've done the exact same thing if the reigning Brownlow medallist was playing against them days after he admitted he had taken drugs. Doesn't matter whether he knew or not.

How exactly are we a disgrace? For booing someone who was lucky to be playing? Doesn't matter if he didn't know, he's still lucky to be playing.

Also, if it was Milne being in Jobe's position, would anyone care about the boos? Probably not, because Jobe's a nice guy, whereas Milne is just a cunt.

I think it's poor form for West Coast fans largely because Watson's had the testicular fortitude to come out and admit that he was one of the injected players, and in return for his courage and for dong the right thing he's booed.

There's no telling whether he knew exactly what was being injected or anything like that. It just bodes really poorly for WCE fans. Especially when they still treat Cousins like the prodigal son.

That's different, he played for us. No fans are going to boo their own captain.

Quote:

That's completely false. Some Eagles fans I know just feel sorry for him, but the majority couldn't give a fuck about him anymore. The media are pretty much the only one who talk about him over here, often to announce his latest drug related offence.

The Rugby drew 56k compared to 2 AFL games in Melbourne drawing 47k, who would of thought Rugby outdrawing AFL in Melbourne for crowds.

Can the Roos overcome GWS tomorrow, gonna be a big build up for this one. Cannot wait.

To be fair, the Lions tour once every 12 years. We're lucky if we don't hear about AFL for 12 fucking minutes down here

I'd be very, very worried if North didn't beat GWS tomorrow.
