Got really worried in that 3rd quarter burst from Freo but we found another gear. Over the moon.

Was decent game. Glad hawks won, always had a soft spot for them. Just the best team out there this season. Not to the level of Geelong/Us, but they're close. Freo were poor for the majority of the game. Ballantyne was trash, couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke.

Pavlich after the game in the rooms though, jesus christ the feels. ;_;

Hawthorn were better on the day. Will be interesting how many weeks Rioli will get with that chicken wing tackle, and that other Hawthorn bloke for the late wack to the head after a mark in the third qtr.

Rioli might get a couple of weeks but that second incident was soft as fuck. Would be embarrassing if he gets charged for that.

Rioli really went at that arm so it's near impossible for him to defend. If you look at Lake he deliberately swings his arm out and collects him late, and going on the Buddy and Chapman late bumbs to the head he should get at least a week with the GF double loading bringing it up to two.

Brought up in Hawthorn and went to hundreds of their games in the glory years-70's,80's
Have quite a connection with the club within the extended family.I saw 10 quarters for the year-today, Haw v Gee and 2nd half of Haw v SM.
Amazing to see the correlation in the tactics and game styles to what has been happening in football for year.Quite incredible to see the ammount of super short kicks that now take place in a match.
Props to all those that travelled over from the West but expected a loud and more sustained chant

I thought it was a good game. Hawthorn did alright considering all the extra help they had from the umpires early on. It won't go down as an all-time great grand final but it was still a solid game for the neutrals.

As for DP's completely irrelevant diatribe: You really need to shut the fuck up when you've clearly got no idea what you're talking about. First of all, why would you remove this season from the record books when you're complaining about events that happened last season?

Second of all, how can the AFL ban Essendon from the competition and punish players who weren't at the club and who have done nothing wrong, likewise why would the AFL shoot itself in the foot and break the contract it has for television broadcast rights which is tied to their being X number of games a season to be broadcast?

Third of all, if you strip Watson of the Brownlow you're now punishing individual players and if you punish one individual you have to punish ALL the individuals which would lead to Essendon no longer being able to field a team which not just punishes the club but also the fans, which is unfair, and leads back to my previous point about not being able to broadcast the prerequisite number of matches per season.

So are you insinuating that the players who were at the club have done something wrong and have escaped punishment?

If the players have cheated they deserve to be punished, tv rights should be irrelevant in making this decision.

But if its been judged that the coach has crossed the line it does raise my eyebrows seeing all the players escape punishment. I've said it before but I do hope ASADA releases a report to the public soon. So we can know all the details.

On the Grand Final, maybe it was just me but it felt quite dull this year.

I should probably reiterate: by punishing the playing group now you're punishing players that have had no involvement in any wrongdoing.

The AFL has to weigh up the damage done in not punishing certain individuals against the damage done to the game through breaking a tv right seal with hundreds of millions of dollars.

I think it's safe to say that some voices of dissent against the AFL's punishments will settle down over the next 12 months, it's not like they can go and watch a rival league after all. Where as putting several hundred million dollars on the line from TV rights risks doing long-term damage to the financial strength of the game.

The AFL have done what they can to control this runaway train and in terms of damage limitation, although they handled things poorly in the PR department though the stages of the investigation and it was drawn out for way, way too long but they've made the best of a bad situation.

Crowd praised despite 35 MCG evictions

AAP
Updated September 29, 2013, 1:47 pm

AAP © Police say 35 people were evicted from the AFL grand final in Melbourne.

Police say 35 people were evicted from the AFL grand final, but they have praised overall crowd behaviour.

From the crowd of more than 100,000 at the MCG on Saturday, police evicted 19 people and issued them with infringement notices.

Police say the evictions were mostly due to poor behaviour, with three for ticket scalping.

The ground's security staff evicted an additional 16 people.

Watched this game, enjoyed it.

First quarter no one could catch it. Had they hosed down the ball or something?

The moment Pav missed that sitter early on, you knew it wasn't Freo's day.

Hawks just out-defended Freo - they weren't given any breathing room. They were helped particularly in the first quarter with a few calls.

I don't really know names but I really liked Freo's giant beast number 31, plus one of their mop-heads number 16.

Disappointed Hawthorn won it, can't stand their supporters. Considering the amount of supposed superstars that went missing on Saturday it was lucky for them that Freo were too nervy to take their chances

Yeah, he really impressed me. I only usually watch about 3 games per season (Saturday was only my second this season), so I don't pretend to have a huge knowledge on it all. But Mundy was everywhere, he was a beast.

The mrs watched it with me & it was her first ever game watching. She's keen to get to a live game now. We're going to attempt to get to Freo vs Swans next season, as because of my little story from years ago I consider myself a Dockers fan, and Sydney are our local team.
