I'm not a fan of the general a-league and youth league ones but the W-league and individual team ones look great. Except that Sydney FC's and Melbourne City's look are near indistinguishable.

Hey the new team branded logos for the MLS was a great idea, but the fact that the FFA has copied it wholesale after so long, and done it with a more corporate design is extremely demonstratively cringe.

If they are at least going to change the logo. Make it so they don't have to make massive changes to it for the next 100 years. It has to be timeless, this isn't that. 

Just do a Google image search for "corporate ribbon logo" and you'll see how forgettable, inane and pedestrian all this is.

It's interesting because people care deeply about their club logos/crests. It is a symbol that represents something you support and call your own.

When Juventus recently released their new logo/crest it was met with worldwide condemnation. That generally happens if people care. the fact this new A-league logo sparked debate from one extreme to the other and everything in between, shows again that people care.

I agree all in all it is only a small thing and people probably should have less attachment to the symbol as it is what the symbol represents that people really care about. Much in the same way people get very techy whenever there is a proposal to change the national flag. It is but only a symbol that represents our country, people fight for the country not the symbol, we stand and show respect for the country not the symbol yet because it does symbolise our country people can transfer those feelings and emotions to the symbol itself and if someone proposes to change it we always see people getting upset, even though at the end of the day it is only a symbol and not the actual thing we care about.

How about turning the design into an actual fucking badge and putting it on the sleeve instead of persisting with a stupid squiggly line circle.

Sky blue and dark blue logo for the Derby! Should've replaced the dark blue with red FFS! It'd complement the City logo nicely too!

Wow a lot of hate for what seems like mainly issues with the FFA outside of the league brand re-design itself.

Fluid colours is a great idea. The MLS did it to great success and it will ultimately come down to how they represent the new logo on the club kits to how successful it will be for the A-League. The million dollar question will be, does this represent a shift of position to the sleave or just a change on the front of the kits? I personally can see it working really well on the sleave but onfront it will look too bulky. I hope they received such advice in their research, and have taken that on board.

As for the logo itself. It works well and translates well for the fluid colour idea. It is no worse than what we had before with added advantages now so all in all it is a positive change.

You can argue about priorities and importance all you want but this is just a small change that seems to be an improvement on what we had before.

Timing of the release is a bit shit but im hearing that they couldnt wait until the off season for the launch due to manufacturing issues and timing with refards to getting them done for the new shirts. Dubious perhaps but whatver no big deal.

12 years after the A-League started, we still have only two more teams than we started and still have to do the tedious triple round-robin; we might get two more teams in a couple of seasons' time but the FFA is still working on the 'criteria' (shouldn't that be a standing work item? Have they not ever given any thought to what they might be looking for?); there is no proper second tier, let alone promotion/relegation; the A-League is hammered by other Australian comps in crowds and ratings yet shows no signs of significant improvement; FTA doesn't care and the pay TV deal was underwhelming; clubs continues to bleed money due to the salary floor and stadium standards; the FFA Cup (Gallop's one half achievement) is still rigged; the Chairman's position is a Lowy family dynasty; and...

Do the FFA have any kind of official 'football advisors' or panel within the body of sorts from a group of experienced ex-international players / football people etc who make recommendations or advisory plans to the FFA to implement ? Seems like it would be a good way to bridge the gap between their experience / goals of the football community and the FFA 's goals / certain inexperiences.

And the logo should have been updated not changed, particularly since the existing logo is still quite new (12 years isn't old). When a brand is as young as the aleague an update shows renewed investment and confidence in the existing brand moving forward, changing it says we're not what we're doing about this, so how about this new one...

The emblem needs a tonne more artist thought, i don't like it's incorporation of trying to make the A out of 3 waves. It just don't work, there;s nothing 'A' recognisable in those waves lol

My only issue they do a rebrand but nothing changed. Rebrand plus new teams at the same time, great it's exciting. Rebranding and maybe some new teams in the next season. WTF are you doing. 

Why was it changed ?

I work in graphic design and from my experience re-brands are almost always undertaken as a reaction to a plateau in the business itself (eg: sales, new customers, etc). I would assume that with the new TV deal, they would want a new look to re-capture peoples attention. It should be noted that current fans, members, etc are not the target audience here. The logo has no impact on whether we follow the league or not. We are still going to follow the league regardless of what the logo looks like. We will have our say about whether we like it or not and then pretty quickly move on to more important issues. This new look is used more as a tool to attract the attention of new customers. Whether it's good or bad, any change will get attention. Personally I think it's a bit on the generic and dull side, but it is in-offensive enough that it's not an eyesore. My only hope is that they didn't go over the top on the budget for this re-brand. Personally i think a competition would have been a great way to engage directly with the football community, and in the process save a bit of money.
