I'm not saying the young keeper didn't make some great stops, but his positioning for 3 of the goals was all wrong, on each occassion he shows too much of one side of his goal, basic errors that need to be rectified if he is to have a future in the game, this added to his lack of height creates more barriers to his future success.

There are some young keepers that have chosen to go overseas to pursue football if they have not been selected here and good luck to them - but it does not make them suddenly better players. The FFA in the last few years have selected overseas players into a squads - just look at the u/20's. The FFA is also independent of the AIS. Players in the 17's age group are constantly changing with growth and development and that has more an influence on career than does selection in a certain team. On this recent tour the overseas goalkeepers were given a chance and I believe the results were mixed. Bolter - Did you actually attend the UK Australia game or are you basing your comments from the highlights video? See if you can find out the actual number of shots on goal? The lad involved will be better for the experience.

While I agree that some players are not better and are in the UK, there are a handful who are better and for whatever reason have chosen not to turn up or just given it a wide berth. Speaking to two of the parents who left it alone. Both of these players would be a walk up start if they turned up.

In relation to keepers why Australia picks players under 6ft is a joke. You cant get a look in the os market if you under 6 or should be ask Danny Im 62 Vokovic why he is back in Australia.

@COYS

Modaffari and Maselli aren't in Vicenza Primavera Team at the moment.
I think they've been released.
Esposito now is on loan at Pro Vercelli (which plays in Italian fourth tier).
In 4 games no minutes for him, maybe he's injured.

Maybe Markelis thought he was better off being closer to having more chances at the new club. Well with Villa and Silva gone, it left players like Mata, Soldado, Aduriz as the main goal-scoring threats up front for them (well Mata being a winger). With a couple of other forwards around the team - Dominguez and a 21 year old Norwegian.

They also have two young players who some say are like the new Villa and Silva in talent. Alcacer - 17, who went awesome for Spain at u17 level. Isco - 18, who is an attacking winger/am.

UK, while we are talking truths, I trust you saw the 4 goals conceded against England. The young Aussie keeper was poorly out of position for every goal. If he'd had his angles right he could and should have saved 3, and as for the cross, well he should never have come flapping for it.

I dont want to be to critical. Because England are a top class side. Facts are that the lad is to small for this level. You must be 62 now as a minimum. And he doesnt get to play against the quality of the english lads week in week out so he cannot be blamed to much. Warm up games against the girls dont cut it.

For what else I saw there is actually nothing in the age group. Those in the know realise who is the best couple of keepers and where they play, the rest are along way off the pace.

While the FFA continue to pick sub standard players especially in the goalkeeping department players will continue to play for other countries.

It must be very frustrating to make the move OS and then get left out cause the AIS kids need to play, but that life. You got to take it on the chin and move on. What gets up my nose is the fact that the ones that are playing as pros need to be the ones getting the development.

The 17s is the kiss of death for many a career and I can see no doubt that alot of these players will suffer the same fate. The worst case for these players would be to actually qualify for the world cup and get stuck at the AIS for another year.

Lets hope for their future careers they get to leave the AIS and pursue the overseas route than many should have taken.

And alot are good enough to as well.

Funny how that goalkeeper you mentioned Dean Gardikiotis from Middlesborough is not on the list of the link you posted. I wonder how many others are not on the list?

Spathi please mate get off the DG forum, the lad needs a heap of development, and please dont think all the punters or coaches in Australis were wrong. The viewings from the Aust camp showed the lad has a heap of work to do. If I was you I would sit tight and enjoy the experience. Seriously enough already. Just cause your in the UK as a keeper doesnt mean your actually better than whats in Australia. Its a known fact that england produce little in the way of keepers.

I've mentioned it one or two times in the past, but Markelis was part of the Genova International School of Soccer in Australia, as were/are a few other kids on the above list, think he was trained by them as a kid, anyway Vicenza are a club Affiliated with this Organisation as is AS Roma and a few other international clubs, so I'm guessing when he came back to Aus recently they set up a meting or introduction and things just fell into place from there.

So you don't think that the boys that have given up lifestyle, friends and relatives to play football overseas, to try and become better Aussie players with a lucky few actually making a career out of the game don't deserve the chance to be considered to play for their country. Another World Cup just went by with us trying to use too many dinosaurs, meaning another group of younger talented A League and overseas players will have missed the chance to play in a world cup as next time it comes round they will be too old. The FFA really needs to have a look at themselves as it is the Australian way to send our strongest teams to any event whether it be football, rugby, cricket at junior and senior levels.

Absolutely right. It shouldn't matter whether the player is at the AIS or in the UK or wherever. If he is the best player to fill the position then he should be selected. In the end it will always come down to personal opinion and that is when politics and selection policy clash. Someone is always going to miss out unfortunately, because the coaches opinion is different to the player his family and friends.

I personally dont like to see players selected because they have done private academy work with one of the coaching staff, but it happens. The conflict of interest should be nipped in the bud. Any coach with a private academy should not be part of the National Youth coaching staff or even be around the team.

[quote=Stormpark94]For 2011 Fifa u17 world cup these are the overseas who could play for joeys:

The wash up from the Joeys so far is that until the BS gets out of the squad and they pick the best kids thats the results you get. And that includes a few UK based players who are still not up to it, but think because they are UK based they deserve a spot.

Im in the UK and I think your getting way ahead of yourselves, let the AIS kids in Australia get first crack at the spots for the 17s. They choose a path and they deserve to get first chance. In fact I would not be picking UK based players at all for 17s cause they have made a choice to go overseas and further their chances.

So if your in the UK be happy with what you have and get off the back of the Aussies in Australia who may want to stay in Australia or not have the passport or means to move. They may also be smart enough to not kid themselves that just because they made an academy here they are a superstar. Fact remains even if you get in here in the UK until your a pro its all BS anyway.

So let the AIS kids do their thing. They deserve the chance and the crack at it. If your overseas and if your any good they will find you and tell you. Until then worry about getting better rather than hanging your hat on being the number 3 choice for a positon thats weak anyway.

All the best.

Ive seen 90% of the players on that list and one not mentioned who should be the Centre half and I can assure you , your along way from becoming professional footballers.

U will find it aint much fun ending back in Australia with your tail between your legs
