Amazing what a bit of confidence will do. David talking up 3 'bids' when from his own words two don't exist.

This makes an interesting read on the Ipswich bid. Pisasale (who is quoted saying the NRL are "useless") is the mayor of Ipswich (and has been since about 1884) and is the dealmaker here - he wants a team out west, he'll get a team out west it's only a case of in what sport? He also has government land allocated for hq and training and land available for a stadium in Springfield, he just can't finance it but he's a well connected (and respected) man so he'll find it. I'm not sure why they would want/need the Strikers brand but let's see .... Ipswich imo is not the front runner in QLD it is the only runner at the moment: http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2016/11/30/govt-support-needed-brisbane-l-bid

Is it formidable? Or are they on other sides of the city? Otherwise, I think it's great. I'd love a decent Brisbane rivalry, and the creation of a Brisbane team instead of South Melbourne or South Sydney also stops the Sydney/Melbourne markets being diluted for the time being I'd love to see Brisbane and Tasmania get the nod... IF Tasmania build a multi-purpose venue in time - I hate the idea of them playing out of a circular venue.

In 2009, before the bid was launched, Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale invited then NRL CEO David Gallop to tour the region. [4] Gallop stressed the importance of establishing an NRL side in the "Ipswich-Logan corridor"[5] and was famously quoted as saying the NRL should expand "where the fish are biting".[6] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Corridor_NRL_bid

Gallop also famously invented the Ipswich Logan corridor that day, which did not exist before and many question if it does today.

Will the FFA's expansion criteria just be for the next two teams? Or will any bid that meet the criteria be able to join the A-league at any point in time?

+x+xSo looks like South Sydney will be admitted in the medium term. What's our thoughts of them for example, in the current case of 13 home games, having 10 games at shark park and 3 at kogarah? I think it allows them to also tap into and build support from anywhere south of the airport and include the LGA's of; Sutherland Shire 210,863 Georges River Council 146,916 (The Council was formed on 12 May 2016 from the merger of the Kogarah City Council and Hurstville City Council) City of Rockdale LGA 97,340 (since merged with botany bay and formed bayside council) Total: 455,119 These figures 2011 Census so I'd assume it would be closer to 500,000 now. The South District of Sydney has had its borders redefined with the Greater Sydney Commission including Sutherland, Georges River and Canterbury-Bankstown as part of the planning district. The current population is 741,250 and is projected to rise to 945,350 by 2036 according to the document linked below which was published this month. If this area is accepted as the catchment for the possible South Sydney franchise then Kogarah Jubilee might be a more central venue for the majority of games. http://gsc-public.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/s3fs-public/south_overview.pdf?b8XoXwKATNSPZHp.l1GXs18JvWM4Vf4_ Macarther has the same population as Sutherland Shire with a better rectangular (Cambelltown) Stadium with far better train station access and other facilities, of which is only used for 4 games a year in a national competition. Why isn't Cambelltown City Council/NSW state government/Western Suburbs Leagues Club trying to get a franchise playing out of here?

Why isn't Cambelltown City Council/NSW state government/Western Suburbs Leagues Club trying to get a franchise playing out of here? If we are referring to a new team which would represent the newly proclaimed Southern district of Sydney, then I'm pretty sure a Southern Sydney team would be far better than a Macarthur team. Kogarah Oval is also only used 4 times per year by the Dragons, and it also is right next to the train line. However yes, it isn't as suited to football not being a rectangular shape.

Yeah i'm not advocating a 'Southern Sydney' team play out of Cambelltown but rather a Macarther representative franchise be introduced in the event of a Sutherland/Shark park based expansion franchise. FWIW I think Kogarah Oval sucks as a stadium for a new franchise + with about a 30 minute drive between Kograh Oval and SFS, the Sydney FC 'catchment' is well within the boundaries of residents anyone may want to target for a Sydney expansion franchise.

Ipswich mayor has yet again said no to a stadium in Ipswich and that any team can just play out of suncorp. Can we just strike Queensland completely off the list now?

So now they're inventing regional names to cover regions that don't exist in the minds of anyone other than a bureaucrat? It doesn't work that way. Come up with a fake name that covers a large area and you end up with a lot fo people that have no genuine engagement with the concept. If they try make this whole South thing too big by including St George, the gong or anywhere other than the shire it will fail. Southern Districts United? Yeah that'll get the punters clamoring for tickets.
It matters not. Put the bloody team in the south west where a million people will soon be living. Plenty of fish out there, and more and more jumping into the boat too!

Because the whole reason why we need new clubs is that the broadest name of them all "Sydney FC" didn't bloody work

@ MT
Just to clarify the Ipswich position: Pisasale has said he will build the new club a training ground and HQ in Ipswich and has reserved council land for a stadium at Springfield near the railway line.
He can't fund a stadium but I recon he'll get private backing and some state money for a modest stadium, the drawback is any new stadium is 3-4 years after approval is granted for an A League licence.
Suncorp sadly remains the only option as the choice of rectangular stadiums is basically two - and Ballymore would be the worse of two evils (trust me).
If strikers are to be involved I'd hope they could persuade the city council to partially renovate Perry Park, again not ideal as the pitch floods easily, but a modest upgrade would take capacity to 7.5k apparently and the addition of a temporary stand could lift it over 10k.
Anyway I'd hope QLD comes in at the second expansion stage giving time to sort this out

At the very least hopefully we get some differentiation with the names of the "big city" expansion franchises.
Sydney FC Western Sydney Wanders South Sydney Sharks South West Sydney Rams Melbourne Victory Melbourne City South Melbourne Brisbane Roar Brisbane Strikers Adelaide United Adelaide City
All feels so same-y
