If the love affair is as strong as many think it is, the FFA are bound to agree to a deal with Southern Expansion.
The risk is that they have only 6 months to get things up and running. Not impossible but hardly ideal, but I don’t see any involvement in maintaining the link with Wellington being beneficial in any deal. A clean break is likely best on that one.

+x+xFox sports reporting Wellington are like ok’ing to sell their licence I'm calling it. It's a done deal. Herald Sun and Adelaide Now are running with it too. Unbelievable. They're all Murdoch, so they're just sharing copy, but still.

+x+x+x+xIf Dandenong is to get a team, they do need a wriggle on.With a state election impending they need to use that to their advantage to pull some sway with voters. It would in the end provide economic benefit to the region. The bid (including stadium) is supported by local government pledges of support. Nothing to do with the state election. Yep: Team11 is a joint initiative of Greater Dandenong City Council, City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council in partnership with the community of south-east Melbourne. Why was FVS interviewing team 11's bid team? Unless I missed the interview with Munn this was dumb af. Why is interviewing them dumb?

+x+x+x+xI can't divulge how I know, but the word on the street here in South East Melbourne is that Team 11 is being looked at VERY favourably. It is actually a very good bid. Great location- Already 2 derby partners, in the heartland of football in Melbourne, easily accessible by all means of transport etc Local government FULLY behind the bid and willing to help NOT hinder. Private investment lined up and the stadium can be built within about 8-12 months due to it's design, but luckily if there are any unforeseen holdups they can play out of AAMI for a few months. A demographic of locals that follow football and that will actually attend matches (if they are local, not in the city). Where will the stadium be? How large, etc? I have heard in Dandenong somewhere 10-15k. Apparently they are announcing the stadium plans next week. They're looking at Greaves Reserve ( google maps link) walking distance between Dandenong and Yarraman stations. From their site: Dandenong has been agreed upon by the local councils as the site of the Club’s football-specific stadium.
The Club envisages playing out of a boutique stadium with a minimum 10,000-capacity, with the capability to expand in future.
In all likelihood the stadium build will require Government funding, but private investment opportunities are also being explored.
Just to add to this, before any official word surfaced about Greaves Reserve, I shopped up what Hindmarsh Stadium would look like if we picked it up and dropped it there, although I put it on a different field there: You can see the rectangle building with the light green roof in both the bid's video and my photoshop, to give you your bearings.

The most important "deadline" of sorts for the club is to be in a position to participate in the July transfer window to assemble a squad for the new season. The turnaround time for other things such as establishing the legal entity can be expedited. And SE's mooted stadium wasn't going to be ready by their first year anyway, so they'll be renting existing grounds which aren't tenanted in summer so they'll have no problem booking them. It'll be a close shave but if FFA makes the snap call I think SE can cobble something together, especially as they've been doing much of the preparatory work for a couple of years.

Gallop said there is a sense of frustration as FIFA demands FFA get its congress in order while he also revealed more than 10 bids had been submitted for A-League expansion from 2019. “But I can’t necessarily disclose them unless they’ve gone public themselves,” he said. “But in that environment we still felt that standing still and not exploring expansion would not be a wise move for the sport. “Equally we have to make sure the expansion process has the best chance of success. “Success means choosing teams in geographic locations that are not only going to be successful in that area but also bring something to the whole league in terms of commercial growth and fans interest, That’s the challenge. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/frustration-building-among-aussie-football-stakeholders-but-ffa-boss-david-gallop-staying-for-long-haul/news-story/05a6ea79616661261abad5a7ede3e886

Once again Gallop has pretty much spelt out that they know where the teams will come from, but the bids themselves need to stack up.
The reality is that if you aren’t from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, the corporate part of that equation just doesn’t compute to the FFA at this stage. It’s where the money is for them.

+xSeen the render on Casey Councils Facebook recently That's from the video I posted above, that render is based on Dandenong Showgrounds (Greaves Reserve), you can see for yourself in the Google maps link I provided. Doesn't mean that the plan hasn't changed and they're using old renders though, especially going off this tweet.

Could the Tasmanian A-League expansion people explain how, if the AFL can't pull a crowd, a Tasmanian A League team could?

I wouldn't be worried one bit what sort of crowd they get when two AFL clubs not representing their state or city is playing against each other. I love football with passion and if Melbourne Victory was playing against Perth Glory 5 minutes from my house in a normal league game I wouldn't waste my time attending if I had tickets for free let alone pay for it. On the A-league bid however I'd only accept Tasmania if they entered the league and played out of a new football only stadium. Even a small 10k capacity would be good enough for me. Playing out of their current AFL/Cricket stadium wouldn't be acceptable if I was in charge of the criteria for a successful bid.

Im sure they knew that he was at least dodgy to an extent. Team11 havent covered themselves in glory getting close to this bloke either. Granted he has never been charged with anything but why bother?

David Davutovic and Daniel Garb both think the 2 teams will come from Melbourne and Sydney. I always thought Brisbane would get the nod ahead of Melbourne, but Brisbane City aside, their bids don't seem to have a lot of substance. I'm starting to think Southern Expansion and Team 11 will be the 2 teams.

@ feed the Bronx
The Brisbane bids all lack a few critical factors - infrastructure, government support and financial backing.
Sadly the Brisbane bids are all looking poor compared to what’s coming out of Sydney and Melbourne.
