+xIt's possible two home games against the Victory might lift their average for the year above 6k. They have one home derby against Victory and 2 against City. Hopefully for them cheap tickets and a couple of early wins will help get a few more bums on seats. +xHow far is it to travel to Wyndham? Tarneit is exactly halfway between Melbourne and Geelong. 30 minutes each way by train. +xAssuming no infrastructure is built, and there's no indication that there will be, it's an hour an a half including a walk. Regional train to Tarneit station, buses to the edge of Sayers Road, then a half hour walk. geez, maybe do some research before commenting my friend. As things stand right now, Tarneit West Station is earmarked to be built between 2022-2027. However, as nearby Tarneit station is running at 100% capacity, there is little doubt it will be fast tracked. I'm predicting it'll be built before the 2022 state election. +xNOTHING AT ALL has been happening on the stadium front.
well keep up with the news then buddy. WU announced last week that the first sod will be turned within 6 weeks.

SM did not pull many to their ffa games so what makes people think they will turn up to a league matches?

+x+x+xNOTHING AT ALL has been happening on the stadium front. There is no record of any application being made to either the local council or the Minister for Planning to START the process of gaining planning permission. I am starting to think that maybe they are going to see how Geelong pans out, and maybe they might end up being based there full time. That’s not exactly true is it. WU appointed s full time CEO to oversee the stadium development just last week, that’s significant, and only the week before the Chairman confirmed they were on track to deliver the stadium in time for their third season. Both of those are significant. I really dont give a sh*t about WU, from this weekend onwards they’re just another team I want below my own ... but what I’m finding fascinating is the number of people that are seemingly invested in opposing WU - what’s the go with that, what is the rest of Australia missing? I think people are bitter that SM didn't get the nod. I like SM personally but they don’t make it easy for others to like them

+xIn Melbourne's case, real clubs with a real history and real support were ignored for two plastic franchises. Really these clubs should have put their efforts in to forming a national second division over the past 15 years then all this would be a mute point, we’d be able to have pro/rel by now. it should also be remembered that within this “real history” these clubs had the keys to the palace once and fucked it up right royally. If everyone takes nothing out of that other than running a viable soccer competition in this country - with or without clubs with “real history” - we might all be better off. And before you smack back, I spend 9 months of every year coaching in a club in the lower end of our football “pyramid” that would certainly benefit if things were opened up and were more equal. But change occurs at club level not on internet sites like this so if WU have their chance - fine, let ‘em get on with it imo

It's a disgrace that such a well supported club, a real club, could not get the 3rd Melbourne licence, effectively losing out to what is nothing more than a real estate development.

It's not entirely WU's fault that Victorian's are super critical of the club. Melbourne needed a second club and we were given Heart. A half arsed mess that no one wanted which is now owned by a group no one likes. WSW demonstrated how to successfully establish a second club in a big city. Victorians were hoping WU would take a similar approach to WSW. They haven't done that. Hopefully once the stadium is completed things will change, but as it stands right now there isn't alot of positive interest in the club. Noticed that. So we can blame all this on Heart/City/CFG then .... I’m cool with that.

+xTarneit got mentioned on the ABC because there is no parking at the station and transit times are extremely long. I heard that as well, sounds pretty bad, in fact, so bad that you'd have to think someone is going to have to do something about it.

+x+x+x+x+xApparently WU have been really promoting themselves heavily in geelong via radio and other media forms. i don’t know how successful it will be but I must admit the geelong media really do get behind the ‘locals’ in any sport. The issue is that they can try and sell it as a local club, but it’s clear they will be out of there as soon as they have the stadium at Tarneit. Many will see it as a hollow gesture really, but who knows, if they can build up enough of a base that would want to travel up to Wyndham for matches, it wouldn’t be the worst outcome. How far is it to travel to Wyndham? Assuming no infrastructure is built, and there's no indication that there will be, it's an hour an a half including a walk. Regional train to Tarneit station, buses to the edge of Sayers Road, then a half hour walk. The field is forcasted to be ready for season three. The go ahead due in a couple of weeks they said. And? That doesn't mean they're getting any infrastructure to service it.

I expect crowds similar to Heart's first season. Maybe 10k+ to the first game, and then dropping to about a 5k average.

They have a very prominent billboard across the road from the stadium and the local paper is giving them good coverage.

+x+xGreg O'Rourke expects Western United to have an average of 6-8k in first season. Thoughts? It's possible two home games against the Victory might lift their average for the year above 6k. Yeah I tend to agree. Will be closer to 6k than 8k overall. I’m expecting a few sub 5k attendances for them this year.

+xGreg O'Rourke expects Western United to have an average of 6-8k in first season. Thoughts? I reckon that's about right. However, statistical averages can be deceiving. The games against MV and MC will boost their averages dramatically. Although they are home games for WU, they will probably have more opposition fans at the game. If you exclude those games, their averages will be much lower than that.

+xWhat happened to Pasquali? I have not seen his name in any pre season games. He’s been injured. He was on the bench yesterday.

Watch your backs #Lads "As a football coach who was part of the process of interviewing every staff member, it was very time consuming." I will never ever have a bad word to say about the football club nor the city or the country, I fell in love with the place. I know there was a certain core of fans that were quite upset with what happened thereafter. (This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity)
But yes, he only made the decision to leave towards the end of the season. At least the truth has finally come out, albeit in an underhanded and disingenuous manner typical of Rudan.
