Oakleigh wanted this played behind closed doors because their tinpot venue isn’t fit for hosting a cup tie with so much interest, one entry point in and out of the ground, and no ability to segregate supporters, you could have Victory play  city there tomorrow and they’d have the same issues.

As it stands the match is likely being shifted to Lakeside, one grandstand will be given to Preston and the other to Oakleigh’s committee members.

if Oakleigh were smart they’d play it at Preston on the guarantee that they would get the gate taking from the match, 3,000 Preston supporters would make for a good pay day, all the Greeks in the northern Burbs go for South or Heidelberg so they’d have no interest supporting Oakleigh.

Remember the time they forfeited a cup tie against South because it fell on Orthodox Easter Saturday? Then they used that to paint themselves as the "real hellas" and started a campaign to discredit South in the Greek media.

Yeah Oakleigh was always a fairly small suburban state league club but since the demise of the NSL and the fact that at the time children of Greek migrants started flocking back to the area as the property prices went up and their parents where dying off leaving them with a nice property. Also Oakleigh has become a hub of nationalistic "Greekness" and they see themselves as rivals to the mighty Hellas ... classic small man syndrome. They play in front of 50 people all season and then when they play South or Heidelberg or Knights they get every hero in the area to come and cheer for Choakleigh against the past giants....

Oakleigh have a major injury crisis atm, so I'm assuming they postponed the game so that they can draft in reinforcements. There's word spreading atm that they're throwing monster cash at anyone and everyone, as it's proving quite tough to convince players to leave their club for Jack Edwards Reserve. It's quite clever for them to have postponed the game for this reason, when realistically... it's just so they can strengthen their squad.

I have such a hard time buying this, Oakleigh are a top 6 npl team, Preston are a solid outfit but still 2 divisions below them, Oakleighs backups should be able to beat Preston at home.

They [Oakleigh] have got no CB's at the club mate, and let's be honest: Preston have a NPL1 capable squad too. It's not like they're playing a bunch of amateurs, Preston are a talented outfit that would push a fully healthy Oakleigh to their limit. It's something that's been talked about quite a bit in the past fortnight, and I know two lads [both are CB's] that have been offered good money to go to OC, but they both elected to stay at their current clubs.

Not sure how to add images on this site. Regardless, Oakleigh announced 2 major signings on Friday night, signing Chris Lucas and Aryn Williams on multi-year deals. They're still in the market for another few players, due to the injury crisis they're in the midst of. Complete lack of gamesmanship on their behalf, but they've made the most of the situation that they essentially made up.

South Melbourne came out strong in extra time, using the wings to get around the Knights’ strong defence. A shot from South was cleared off the line after squeezing past Manos, denying yet another game-winning opportunity for the Greek-based side.
