11 is surely enough bids to avoid a champions league format

Not home and hosed yet but a real nst is looking almost certain

There are definitely more bids. Just because a club hasn't made an announcement doesn't mean they haven't already submitted a response a week ago.
I'd be very surprised if the FA receive less than 20 responses. I'd assume closer to 25.

Haha love that. One of the more humorous announcements thus far.

Btw Heidelberg were another club that were in dire straits a few years ago, relegated, couldn’t pay their players at one point, under 18 forfeiting games due to lack of players  etc but they’ve pulled it back are now looking like one of the stronger clubs at npl level, and likely one of the strongest bids to get back onto the national stage via the NSD. Good on em

Marconi is an aspirational club and for one with such a solid off field foundation and contribution to the national game, deserved to be in a better place. I wasn't following things at NPL level with some of these clubs because it wasn't really fitting to watch proud clubs going sideways with nothing to hope for. I don't think the AAFC/NSD was the impetus to get them back up - they're a proud enough and good enough club to earn promotion off their own back. But I suspect at the same time, if there had been something to play for this whole time, they would'nt have fallen like they did.

Well said.

Glenardo,  what was this all about.  I have been told it was deleted later.

President’s Message

A warm welcome to all our Sponsors, Members and Supporters, who I have no doubt would have turned up in big numbers for today’s vitally important clash v Marconi Stallions.

Obviously, it has been a great start to the Season, but caution must prevail, as this is the longest season ever, with 25 matches remaining. With such a long season, squad depth and numbers are vitally important, and in this instance I note the loss of Jason Romero, which is disappointing, but I wish him all the very best moving forward. What is absolutely amazing, at this stage, but yet to be officially confirmed we are unable to replace Jason, until the window opens in June, in essence nine (9) weeks before the end of the season. It is simply amazing and defies belief, that as you all now, Jason has moved to MacArthur, who like other A-League Clubs have a youth team playing in the NPL 1 Competition. One would think, that an A-League Club would source an injury replacement from within the ranks of their very own youth league team. What is the point of the A-League Clubs bothering to have a youth league team, and what is even more fascinating, is why would an emerging young talent bother wasting their time playing in a youth team within the A-League set up. The 3 or 4 strikers within the MacArthur youth teams, it is astonishing that they have not simply packed their bags and walked away from the Club, after being embarrassed by their very own Club. Because the purpose of they’re being there, and playing at that Club, is so that they get the opportunity to move into the A-League squad. And, then when the opportunity arises for MacArthur to elevate one of their youth players into their first team squad, but as such, they have been ignored, they have been discarded. So, again I repeat, and I ask these youth players, why do they bother remaining in such a set up. Moving forward with this message, at the time of writing, the Club has submitted our Expression of Interest on Friday for the National Second Division. We have also commenced preparations for our annual Festival of Football v Sydney Olympic and this year we are the host Club. More exciting details to follow in coming weeks. Next year will be the Club’s 70th Birthday Anniversary and major event are currently in the planning stages. To highlight and to commence the festivities and in our lead up to our 70th Birthday celebrations, in our last match of the season this year, our first grade Men and Women’s squads will be playing in the identical playing strip that was used by the Club in 1954. In closing, thank you to our supporters in attendance today, and also today’s Ball Boys – U14s Youth Boys for being so kind to help and ensure that the Club complies with proper match day regulations. Their commitment and attendance are more appreciated than they know. Once again, kind thanks to all our Season Pass Holders.

Haha this is the first I’m seeing this. Was that on APIAs social media? Or was it an email to
their members? Reads very much like the ramblings of Tony Raciti, who as I noted in the NPL thread, speaks very much from the heart and not so much from the head haha. He sure is a character

Painful period for the club. Marconi’s river plate/Juventus moment, a blight on it’s proud history. Showed character that the club was able to regroup and bounce back imo, so to get back onto the national stage once again would be a real triumph after all
that.

To clarify your point, are you suggesting that the club did bounce back because of the “sniff” the foundation of the AAFC gave them? Quite possible.

i had heard that the board had hit breaking point just prior to the relegation season having just seen a large chunk of their squad taken by a league clubs…again, and having barely been compensated financially..again. Marconi has always been know for producing players, and had frequently been a favourite “hunting ground” for a league clubs. Apparently some people at the top were beginning to question whether it was worth all the effort they were putting into their squad only to be continually looted and essentially were starting to “give up” with no light at the end of the tunnel and no sign that things were going to change, it seemed as though this was just the new reality for the club. Then something obviously prompted a turn around, because the club now seems to have no problem opening the check book again these days.

That’s all hearsay though

Reckon we may have seen a different Marconi because they were relegated in 2015 and out of the NPL for 2016 and 2017. Especially relevant because the AAFC was formed in 2017.

Yes Marconi is a genuinely strong club, but these simple facts help along the argument that the NSD at its inception wasn't 100% merit focused.

Fair play to them, since dropping into the state league post nsl they have been there or there abouts most seasons. For those outside of nsw, I think it’s worth noting that the expected applications from ex sydney nsl clubs aren’t just based on nostalgia. The likes of Sydney Olympic, Sydney United, Marconi, APIA etc have been up near the top of the league most years baring the odd bad season here or there since the end of the nsl. They genuinely are still some of the stronger clubs that nsw npl have to offer

Manly, Wollongong?

Yea Manly, Blacktown both also been strong. Doesn’t seem like they’re interesting in applying though right now unfortunately. But I left out those and Wollongong because i was referring to Sydney nsl clubs specifically, and I said they’re were “some” of the strongest, not the only strong clubs (I know Blacktown did play nsl very briefly)

Do the Bulldogs still us the venue. ??

Was decent last time I saw it during the NSL
But that was a while ago now

They don’t really play there anymore, apart from one off matches. I think their offices and training facilities are there though

For what I worth, they’ve been playing there for about 20 years now I think, so I guess that could be considered somewhat long term.

Yea it was looking at bit run down at one point, not sure when you last went, but they pulled down those shed style roofs behind the goals and cleaned it up a bit, removed old sponsorship boards, put in a new digital screen etc.

Haha they play out of belmore sports ground these days, as they did towards the end of the NSL. obviously they don’t own the place, but I’m fairly certain the have some kind of long term lease. They train next door I think. Pretty ideal NSD venue in my opinion

Haha they play out of belmore sports ground these days, as they did towards the end of the NSL. obviously they don’t own the place, but I’m fairly certain the have some kind of long term lease. They train next door I think. Pretty ideal NSD venue in my opinion

I used to drive past it often a few years back and it looked pretty run down then.

Lucky to be one genuine contender there from QLD.
From what I can tell.

Has Sydney Olympic got a permanent home ground now or will it be a change every year like their NSL days??

I would be happy with that. We only need genuine contenders, don’t need clubs pushing their own agendas..

Football Australia needs to show that it is the one controlling the direction of football in this country.

Looks like we've got a NSW/QLD league.

I was expecting a VIC/NSW centric league.
