The annual Dolan-Warren awards ceremony has been axed, with the A-Leagues set to announce the players of the season at halftime on grand final days.

The Australian Professional Leagues (APL) have chosen to tone down this season's Dolan-Warren celebrations, which are usually held in the lead-up to A-League Men grand final week at a glitzy ceremony.

It follows significant cuts at head office this year and a restructure overseen by the competitions' new commissioner, Nick Garcia.

Very skint. Not just because of what you have shared, but also that they couldn't provide extra funding to Canberra United to see them through until the failed expansion procedure is finalised here.

I agree, whatever, seriously why or who really cares whilst our so called top league is as such.
The game has no pedestool to stand on - it would be a event just for themselves that is a waste of time/$ (they don't have) and their decision confirms it.

Maybe if Danny Townsend didn’t blow the budget on last seasons ‘festival of football’ then piss off to Middle east (what a prick) - the Apl could afford a counter meal for the best players at the pub?!

History means nothing to the APL. As I’ve said before this is the americanisation of football in this country.
Maybe the NST or whatever can help focus on that history but things are looking grim. The younger generation who only know the a league probably won’t support it so it’s America here we come.

what i reckon would be better is instead of selling tickets, they sell license fees. each person who buys a license fee can then convince 6 more people to buy a license fee after them. Then after that, they can get people to sell license fees.

It'll never hit a snag.

Just picturing all of the players realising they no longer need to buy their SO a new outfit for the evening.

So no glitz and glamour for the end of season awards?

Frank Lowy had the money to fund a convention centre and some beer and seafood for the event.

Might as well set it up in a pub in Adelaide and bring your own goon sack lol

So the Johnny Warren medal winner will be just taking a photo on grand final day?

No glitz and glamour like the AFL Brownlow medal night? Shame

hey legend I think its pretty much the muchness but that the APL/owners felt to pick up their crumbs.
Most clowns as you call them just wanted Lowys out no more no less, they set the Trojan Horse and here we are.
Thank christ the current FA are way better than the past and trying to rebuild so thats the positive looking ahead.
