+x+xAs ive said just play at AAMI Park. Any backlash coming of 3 teams at one venue will be offset by playing in a venue ppl will want to go to..particularly those in the heartland western suburbs. I'm in the complete contrast here. If WMG get even 4000 at the 'intimate' Somers St it would look a hell of a lot better for TV & PR compared to having 4000 at AAMI Park. It could be very similar to how the Nix held games at Lower Hutt and were fondly remembered. Melb City games look terrible at AAMI Park on TV so just imagine what it would be like with half of their crowds! Im on board with somers st but you know the ffa wont deem it A league standard. I figured with AAMI Park its the only choice they have if they dont want 100% of the crowds needing to drive to a venue.

They can’t play out of AAMI. AFC regulation says teams playing in champions league can’t have 3 teams playing out of their stadium. Victory and/or City will be in the champions league.

The best name out of the ones they are offering is Western Athletic FC IMO.

I think the chances of all three Melbourne teams getting into the AFC in the same year are rare, until we piss off Nix and get four spots at least I doubt it matters if there's a third team that isn't in the ACL.

It is west of the CBD, in fairness, and train access from the Western lines can't be beaten. Still comes with the same problem as Kardinia when the Big Bash starts though.

It is west of the CBD, in fairness. I doubt they will play any home derbies at Marvel. There would be no point. I reckon the FFA will just make sure they schedule any WMG home games against MV or MC at Kardinia. It makes the most sense to make the most of the games they have at Kardinia by scheduling opposition that will generate the bigger crowds. MV and MC are the obvious ones, but AU and SFC should also be played at Kardinia as they typically get the greatest number of travelling supporters in Melbourne.

+x+xFirst three are quite acceptable. Always liked Athletic in football club names My concern with the name like 'Athletic' is that it requires the club to be involved in more than just one sport imo lol - hence the 'Athletic' part, because it's not just a football club. Petty, I know lol Out of those five, the least cringey are perhaps Western United and Western Melbourne Warriors. No doubt the presence of just Western in all these names is designed to capture all of Western Victoria in the catchment. i thought they were building a multi sport complex for revenue or something. Their logo sure fits the bill Personally, I like either Athletic one. Its a football name, No other club has it, not cringey, offers them something different

the warriors one should be West Melbourne Warriors rather than western, rolls off the tongue better.
Imagine what they could do pre match
"Warriorssssss come out to play, Warriorssssss come out to playyyyyyyyy!"
then boom bit of pryotechniques and the players come out

I’ll explain it better. The regulations are if you want to play champions league, you can’t have more than one other team share your home ground in your domestic competition. If the 3 Melbourne teams share AAMI none of them are allowed to play champions league. West Melbourne won’t be able to play home games there.

Westside Pride FC.......haha, can just picture the team making an entrance dressed as the village people.
If it’s to be one of these.....then it has to be either Western United FC or Western Athletic FC.

Seems that rule may no longer exist as there is no mention of it in the 2019 tournament regulations in Article 16 on Stadiums, and I couldn't find anything more by searching the word "stadium" in the PDF, but maybe you'll have more luck: http://www.the-afc.com/afc/documents/PdfFiles/afc-champions-league-2019-competition-regulations

The rule is at 4.03 of the AFC club competitions 2017-20 entry manual. Having seen the new regulations you’ve posted the link to, I’m not sure if it still applies.

Absolute abortion of a club already. They won't build out in transit they will get Heart level crowds and stay at Geelong.

Not sure which names I like..after some time thinking, probably Western Athletic FC
Second in line is probably Western Melbourne Warriors. But it's kind of a little too similar to Western Sydney Wanderers. Wouldn't complain if either too much if that got up though I suppose.
This club is still coming in a season or two too early but oh well, it's expansion and I really hope they're successful off the field as well as on it.

If they have both 'Athletic' name options on the poll it will inevitably split votes and a 3rd option will get up. I hope they just run with one of them.

Also - I think the best option is Whitten oval. Use temp stands to bring people closer in. They do it for the Grand Prix, Comm Games etc and it's not that expensive or invasive. They will need to do a deal with the bulldogs, but I'm sure they'll accomodate if the price is right.

Whitten Oval isn’t really an option when the bulldogs train there all year round and the women’s team plays all its games from now on in. Would rule out any option to bring in temp stands inward from the boundary line.

Forgot about the AFLW. Looks as though they only play 4 games a year there but as you rightfully point out, it would impact on their training. I guess one of the options would be to have all the crowd housed on the grandstand side and bring the put closer to them. The camera tower could be set up on the non crowd side. I think if they set themselves up in Footscray, they are at least a chance of making it work. A few years in Geelong and I think this will have Gold Coast United Mk II written all over it. I have no idea why WM wasnt given 2020/21 and SWS given 2019/20 given Campbelltown is ready made and desperate for another tenant.

Not playing at Kardinia Park is the best option, it is the absolute worst way to start life as a Football club. Much better off putting some money into an NPL ground or playing at AAMI.
