Well if WU are on the 'brink,' how are they going three ways in propping up Jets, as the Jets just signed another foreigner from JLeague...
As the pitches are more than 50% built, will they be left derelict halfway completed?

Im hearing on the grapevine that the "new" property investment group is also majority foreign owned and is having second thoughts as the financial reports don't seem to be kosher at WMG...???? Just a rumour but a fairly strong one at this stage.....
The good news for the A leaguers, is that the message seems to be that even if they can't sell the license the current group seems keen to continue operating the football department .... for now.

They're not. Their owner(s) maybe part of the group that is propping up the jets, but the club itself is not. Separate entities all together. If the owner(s) have decided that WU is no longer worth their investment, it's completely separate to whether they still wish to spend money propping up the jets. If the rumor is accurate, it's not that the owners have ran out of funds, it's that they have come to a point in which WU is no longer viable for them and they need to move it on to a suitable buyer. As for the training pitches, as the council is involved I'd say it will be completed as planned.

UNCONFIRMED RUMOUR: Current #TarneitFC investors have exhausted their available funds & are in late stage discussions to sell #WUFC to another property investment group.
If new investors aren’t found, it’s understood the #ALeague franchise will cease to operate next year.

Don't forget it will be used for the broader community as well. They won't even be able to manage what it gets used for.
Concerts, dirt bikes, etc. Nice, yeah?.

Absolutely mate, its a council facility. Just like WU's training ground..... Only difference is that it looks like the Bulleen ground will have 150 more seats and, 2 more training pitches and heaps more trees and bike paths.

Bulleen Lions did/do still have their own "privately owned" stadium at Veneto club Paulie, and will continue to do so....  This is a council ground, just like the one Whyndham council is building at Tarneit only with better facilities and training pitches. It will be used primarily by two local state league clubs, with full public access when the clubs mentioned aren't training or have match days, just like the Tarneit training base. Only difference is a franchise owner isn't trying to convince the gullible A league public that this is "their home"

Don't forget it will be used for the broader community as well. They won't even be able to manage what it gets used for.

Frankly, it's amazing that they have held on so long. Hope it's true. They have done nothing but harm to the competition and were admitted only on a false promise. 9

Vic West, not Victoria on its own.

Doesn't matter until they are actually playing in the west. As long as they are playing out of AAMI, the only point of difference they have is the colour green.

Really enjoyed attending the Western U double gender in Hobart this weekend.

The quality of the football on the pitch was great.

The main problem was that so many people interested in football, outside the current club milieu,  didn't  know  that the WU double header was  on. The mainstream media, particularly Murdoch's tabloids and the ABC TV, seem anti domestic  Aus football. They primarily focus reporting on  T20 cricket for both genders, tennis for both genders, national league basketball and of course both genders for AFL in this state.

Football Tasmania didn't have lot of info on their website, but there could have been collusion between Football  Tas and Western U in accessing juniors players and giving out  free tickets.

I intend to chase up the WU media person in the  next few days.

On Feb 17th there is a Western U game in Launceston, that I will attend  earlier the day and we can drive both ways, or, if we can find accommodation if it is on later in the day .

The Launceston Fairfax tabloid is far more domestic football friendly, when previous A L games have been held there.

If WU wanted to hold 5 games a season in Tas, and they have pro  staff working in Tas, holding plenty of junior and youth  coaching clinics,  crowds  will easily exceed those in Geelong.

My salient point is that it is old footage. They won't  have the training ground ready for start of 2023-24  season. They haven't started construction on it again this year, yet.
Lib gov lost an election and forget funding for the main stadium. All in all, things look pretty shit.

Had no idea they were playing at North Hobart Oval until I saw the AL posted this on facebook.

Anyway I'm intrigued on how it sets up as a venue.
From my understanding, it's one of the more narrower ovals so more suitable to host football than say Docklands or the ballarat venue WU use for example.
It also has an elevated terrace on the wing which would be cool to see on display hosting football.

When I was 'all in' with emotional investment for the A-League 10-15 years ago I was hoping Tasmania United got accepted and converted North Hobart Oval into a dedicated football facility. Obviously a personal pipedream at the time.

Ironically since then it seems like the NBL have actually made it a reality and the Jackjumpers have been very succesful with a parochial fanbase with an upgraded venue and high attendances.

North Hobart has hosted AL M practice games before.

If the pitch faces North /South like I saw an EPL rep team play Tas over 40 years ago, the big stands are side on.

The more  recent games have set the pitch  in more of an East/West orientation and there isn't enough seating at the side of the pitch.

That's been around for a long while. WU have put alot of energy into Tasmanua, is that a sign of an eventual shift further south?
If funds have been promised by lib government but withheld, there may not be a 15k capacity Stadium at all. The  training grounds at best.
Has construction of the training grounds commenced again in January? Who knows.

Not the dumbest idea in the world.  Just call them Southern United, that'll do.

Don't know what has happened with WU's media officer, but there has been a paucity of media publicity for the WU double header in Hobart today.

I was going to ring her to ask if she has provided info and media outlets have ignored it. We have had articles in the local Murdoch tabloid in the last three days. Yesterday and the day before was about ALW - with Aimee Medwin returning to her home of Hobart to play for WU.

However, a football journo mate of mine provided info to the tabloid weeks ago and we should have had a lot more publicity over the last few weeks.

Today we've finally had 2 articles on ALM.

WU was conducing coaching sessions with local players and coaches in the  last few days - which is good to see.

That looks impressive. It’s good to see our game get some investment, and benefiting from the North East Link works.

As for WU, the training base will need a fair amount of work to make it a viable venue. Understand that it won’t be out on its own for long, but for the first couple of years, it will be either undeveloped or becoming a construction zone in the area.

I really just don’t see this working out well, however I still hold limited hope they will get things in order. I am still amazed they aren’t focusing more of developing younger players to bring some return on investment, as I can’t see how they aren’t losing a significant amount at present with minimal fans and no home.

It was an election promise, however the Libs lost the election in November, so unlikely for any gov funding within the next 4 years. Labor may decide to approve the funding but I doubt it. It is possible for the Libs to propose the funding in parliament and it get bipartisan support, but I also doubt that will happen. It was just an attempt by the Libs to capture the westy vote.

It will be a very long wait for the stadium, but the training facility won't be surrounded by nothing for long. Houses are shooting up in Tarneit quicker than anywhere. It was be surrounded by shops and houses inside 2 years.

Especially now that the precinct won't get the $100m in gov funding that the libs promised. I reckon they may still end up getting gov funding at some point, it just won't be anytime soon.

The training base will be a weird one as it is surrounded by…. Nothing. It will likely be very windy and exposed to the elements.

Temporary seating without any cover will be very interesting, but given that there has been no mention of the actual stadium going ahead, I tend to think it’s getting more and more likely that they will have to deal with this solution for a long time.

In terms of the Somers Street discussion, my understanding is that WU had offered Melbourne Knights 250k per season and other revenues per game, however this wasn't enough for the Knights, who didn't want them to use Somers Street. Understandable but frustrating for the general supporter.

What should have happened is that they should have used Melbourne Showgrounds and built temporary seating around the sidelines that don't have permanent seats. That would have allowed a permanent home to be created, and not have to deal with the politics of using another teams venue.

Perth Glory have made the most of a horrible situation this season, and its a shame that WU couldnt have done this from the start.

The training base will be a weird one as it is surrounded by…. Nothing. It will likely be very windy and exposed to the elements.
