+xSlightly old news, but Western Bulldogs are planning on modernising and upgrading Whitten Oval to 18k seats with a view to playing premiership games against low drawing teams by 2024. Obviously that's way too late for Western United while they wait for their own stadium, but maybe they could be accommodated for a game or two to test it out in the meantime? Bulldogs bold plan to return AFL to Whitten Oval To be honest it would have been much better if they were based out of Whitten Oval in the early years over Geelong. I imagine the media facilities aren't up to scratch though.

Given that the AFL team trains there currently I'd actually expect the back of house facilities to be pretty good, although the spectator facilities are really run down. As far as I can tell nobody uses it in the summer, maybe they could be moved into placing temporary seating on the field for part of the year?

I imagine the media facilities aren't up to scratch though. if they play AFLW games there i'm sure they can accommodate 1-2 HAL games. their contract is only for 7 games in geelong, so they will have to find 4-5 games elsewhere. i doubt they will use Morsehead Park for all of those.

So is there a coach they already have in mind and are talking to? seems bizarre they're making all these signings with no coach.

+xSo is there a coach they already have in mind and are talking to? seems bizarre they're making all these signings with no coach. All signs continue to point to Rudan being the coach. Kurto coming over from the Nix is just another indicator. It would be too unorthodox for a coach to use a visa spot on a keeper. It has Rudan written all over it. My prediction is they officially announce Rudan as coach next week.

It is Rudan. Nailed on.
Jeez I hope we smash WU next season. Bloody snakes.
Rudan obviously tapped up Kurto and others (wait for Williams and Burgess to be announced shortly) with ol mate Lou Sticca while still coach of the Nix.

Once that's over the flood gate may well open. AS players look to a future longer than 1 year.

Will be interesting to see what reception Rudan gets next season at Nix. Wouldn’t be a surprise to see the two meet very early on in the season

WU are definintely going for the quantity over quality recruitment strategy. Fairly poor squad overall imo. No goals and a leaky defence. They probably have more players signed right now than most aleague squads. Definitely need to slow down and try find some quality foreigners and a high quality marquee

I think it's a good squad so far. They signed the best GK in the league and have probably the best young GK in the country. They have a Socceroos RB and 4 starting XI quality CB's. In midfield, they have Kone, Chapman and Pasquali atm and probably more signings to come in that area of the park. They are a little light in attack atm tho with Pain, Yuel, AP and McDonald.

+xWellington Phoenix vs Western United first game please, their supporters are seething. Imagine this scenario. Popovic is an inexperienced coach that Perth takes a gamble on. Popovic signs on for 2 years. After 6 months a new club in Sydney is formed that wants to sign Popa. Popovic then cries to the media about being too far away from home (something that he would have known before signing the contract). This speculation continues for the tail end of the season, derailing the playing group. Whilst Popovic is still contracted and coaching Perth Glory, he starts green lighting signings for the new Sydney team, including some of his current players. Then when their season ends in a whimper, Popovic bails to the new Sydney team. How seething would you be?

Kurto is decent, yes. Maybe Gulum is passable at CB, the rest are quite poor.Pasquali isn't a compelte unknown having played so little. Still probably better than the mariners.
