Funnily enough they're engaging geelong and ballarat a lot more than they are In the city of Wyndham. Besides the fan forum at encore events centre not one thing had been organized down werribee/hoppers/tarneit/trugganina/Williams landing way . The local fan engagement has been a huge joke

+xWe'd better get a wriggle on then, there aren't too many available locations left for a major stadium in central Melbourne. Once the E Gate is gone ( if it isn't already), I think that's about it. I'm sure sites will become available. I have half an eye on Arden Street as a potential site. The home of North Melbourne Football club. Its likely they are relocating to Tasmania in the coming years. And they are building a new train station nearby. The jist is that construction is likely to begin in October. There is also mention of a new Town Centre being built, which would turn the whole precinct into a huge hub along with the train station.

Yep, that's where they're gonna make their money to help pay for the stadium.

+xYep, that's where they're gonna make their money to help pay for the stadium. My take on it is that they will be building commercial properties to make their money from the project, but the Town Centre is unrelated. Its a general push from the council to turn the whole area into a large hub.

+xWhat will their name be? What will their colours be? Who will their coach be? Who will they sign? Any proud West Melbournian Socceroos? Are they still not choosing to adopt a moniker? (or mascot) This seems risky as their opponents may adopt one for them...... or even worse Speed or Harper.

+xso what does everyone think their first game will get for attendance? Depends on how many free tickets they are giving out. They would be crazy not to give out a bunch of tickets at clubs and schools in the region. If they give out a bunch of free tickets, I estimate 5-10K attendance. If not it could be below 5k. It's also a little troubling that memberships are still unavailable. All I can think is maybe they were waiting for the fixture to be finalised.

But if they have 8-9,000 people on Facebook each one represents say an average of 3 people (mums, dads, brothers, sisters etc) then they’ve got a decent early base of close to 30,000 people, most of which you’d assume would love to be st the first game if they can.

Social media followers don't tell an accurate story though. MV has 226k facebook followers, SFC has 206k facebook followers, WSW has 106k facebook followers, Macarthur FC has 18k facebook followers. People follow stuff on social media for any number of reasons. Doesn't translate into bums on seats. Having less than 9k followers on facebook is a actually a bit of a worry to be honest. The season is only a few months away. Macarthur FC has over double the followers and they don't enter the comp for another 18 months.

I know what you mean but WU are early in their life with little SM activity. Those 9,000 are your early adopters and many of them are likely to be your wannabe committed fans. I think they’ll get close to a sell out in their first game, as long as they don’t get pumped by Nix the week prior.

I have a feeling WU will have a positive season, should finish in the finals comfortably judging by the strength of their squad and Rudan’s pragmatism. As the season draws near I’m getting more excited to finally see a fresh club. Should be even better next season with MFC coming in too.

Kardinia park holds 36k. Outside of a derby no other club can sell out a stadium of that size, especially not WU.

Still, Macarthur FC have double the likes without a single player being signed and absolutely zero media presence and reasons to get excited. I don't think that's a sign that Macarthur are going to have huge numbers, it's more a case of a lack of interest in WU. Doesn't bode well at all. I might head down to the practise game next Thursday because it's only 20 minutes up the road and gauge the interest there.

I think they’ll get close to a sell out in their first game, as long as they don’t get pumped by Nix the week prior. The only chance it will be a sell out is if it's completely free entry. Kardinia park holds 36k. Outside of a derby no other club can sell out a stadium of that size, especially not WU. I must admit I was thinking Kardinia held 24,000 (look who doesn’t know his AFL ovals from his elbow) so modified answer - just over 20k on a fair weather day The wanderers got 10k to the first ever home game... WU arent getting anywhere near that Sure about that? Wasnt it against Mariners at Parra? I was there. I think it was 11k. Under 12 for sure. 10,458 Mariners were also reigning premiers or grand final winners cant remember which.
