My point is that the official Team11 bid was still advocating for a dedicated South East team after WU's bid won instead but folded when City moved down there and they became "Team City", and that's a shame. https://twitter.com/TeamCitySE

Might be a shame, but perfectly predictable.

The Victory and city didn't want either Team 11 or South Melbourne, but were happy with a franchise basing themselves in ... Tarneit (of all places).

We now understand why they felt zero threat from a team based in Tarneit (very loosely based, it has to be said).

I mean fair dinkum, one old club, a real club, with an actual supporter base,  with a 40 year lease on a boutique stadium only a few kms outside of the CBD was cast aside, in favour of a new franchise, owned by anonymous foreign property developers, wanting to base themselves in....Tarneit.

It's almost impossible to believe now that anyone would have thought that this had any chance of success.

A team meaning to represent the West playing in Albert Park is ridiculous. They need to make an arrangement with the Knights and play games there. Even Green Gully or Whitten Oval in Footscray would be a better option.

Another team playing within a couple of km’s from another 2 is even more ridiculous

Yeh heard that one a few times some 30 months ago.
In the end, WU ended up playing home games at the same stadium as the other two, never mind 2 or 3 kms away

If they don’t get started within the next couple of months, I honestly feel it makes it all the more clear there are deeper issues at play.

They have gone very quiet about both the training base and the stadium, and with on friend performance hitting a massive nosedive, manager sacked and who knows what else going on, there’s next to no confidence left in them to deliver.

Hopefully they prove us all wrong, but damn what a headache it all seems to be.

The best thing they could do is fast track the training centre as quickly as it can and host matches there.
From memory it was supposed to have 5,000 seats on the main stand.

That's honestly enough for the time being with what the demand warrants and there's no reason why they couldn't have a few hills to increase overall capacity to 10,000 if need be.

Until then they are in absolute no mans land and unless they create a proper sense of identity they are on borrowed time.

But then again most football fans in Victoria could see this coming from the outset and yet the FFA gobbled their license fee without too many questions.

Let's not forget that this bid was shortlisted (and Team11 denied) by Gallop and Lowy Jr, who wouldn't know the Victorian football scene from a bar of soap.

Some guy on ALeague hub mentioned WU could use Lakeside for home games next few seasons. If that happened, is the stadium up to scratch?
Can't amalgamate cause the colours are different.

Nah Lakeside has a running track around it, not even close to being Aleague appropriate, I think the lovely real estate people from WU should consider playing in more soccer specific stadiums permanently like the MCG, Flemington Racecourse or maybe  Rod Laver Arena???  I very much doubt the franchise or their supporters would feel welcome or safe at Lakeside, nor should they. Maybe they should consider relocating back to Adelaide and taking their pretend club with them.

Yeah a lot of interstaters saying it'll work. And every melburian saying it's a lame duck.  Wu need to engage with supporters and people in Wyndham.  The council tries but wu need to do more. Theyre doing a lot of clinics in the Geelong area but not in Wyndham. Have fbeir training base in the shire of Melton. Their offices are for lease still.

Interesting that I did find the following tender released by the Wyndham City council that closed on the 2nd June:

https://gateway.icn.org.au/opportunity/enquiry-160229/request-for-tender-n400168-1160-sayers-road-north-regional-football-facility-design-services?st=opportunities&psid=1620401751

What is concerning is that it only appears to be for design services. I may have missed something, but If that’s all they are up to so far, there’s a long way to go.

Must say the concept looks good for the site, but seems to be another huh level concept rather than anything realistic at this point. A few renders I hadn’t seen before though.

https://westernmelbournegroup.com

Im not sure why I thought their site was south of the rail line, but it is the northern side. it makes it seem even more remote for some reason :)

As Jerry Maguire famously said “show me the money”.

Once again whatever is proposed to be built will need major investment. Training centre with a stadium of 5000 capacity?? Needs major funding.

I assume the wait is for the WU consortium of owners finding someone willing to part ways with millions to build this thing. As well as the stadium.
For what return?? I’m not sure.

It all comes down to $$$.
And it seems the current group of owners haven’t got the $$ to build it.

For the sake of any remaining WU fans, they better hope that’s not on the cards as their next manager.

they should just give John Anastasiadis the role. He certainly has shown he has the quality previously in the NPL and deserves a chance at the top job at A-League level.

No doubt they won’t spend money.
But nor will the WU owners from the looks of things.

Not to the extent of huge infrastructure investment for the club.

type your messageNah city and mv didn't want wu in.  They preferred team 11

I tend to recall they preferred WU, but I really do think overall the decision was a poor one not to go with Team 11.

It has certainly opened the door for City, but unless they can get a stadium built at Dandenong, it will be a wasted opportunity to try and create an identity that Team 11 were more likely to provide.
