Seems to me that Western United needed better poltical connections, that's how you get infrastructure built in sport anywhere in the world Australia included.  Be it the eggball codes or football you have to cozy up to the pollies.  Those developer blokes needed to make more significant contributions to whatever political party could help them up.

Looks like they're cheap because they got a 1,500 capacity training paddock in the middle of fucking nowhere.   Heh.
AHA!!!!! I just realised, maybe that's why they spend so much time down in Tassie...

Pre-Covid, I remember hearing a rumour from someone at Wyndham who indicated that the big hurdle with the big-boy stadium was that WMG changed their plans and wanted to build it last. From what I understand, originally when they won the bid there was one (or more) sugar-daddies that were going to bank roll everything. Then one (or more) walked away from the whole thing. WMG then decided that the only way they could fund the stadium was to build the commercial and residential buildings within the precinct first as these are quicker to build and would bring in way more money sooner. The council however, said nope, you build the stadium first as per the free land deal. I'm not sure where the training facility ties in with everything, but I'm to understand that it is government owned, built and operated. WU will just be a tenant. They also got the Libs involved in a feeble attempt to secure some government funding, but that was going to require the Libs winning which was never going to happen in that state election. I really doubt the main stadium will ever get built. If it does, it will almost definitely by state owned. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not the privately-owned stadium they promised.

I feel for Duva and the Team 11 bid. They had a commitment from Labour to build a stadium pending inclusion.... I wonder if Gallop was really THAT gullible or something else tipped him over the line???? Hmmm I wonder?

FFA should've put a few more rules around the inclusion.
Venue.
$$ spent on squad/staff
Training base
Probably lost $5-10M per year.
Some serious $$$ that should've been utilised better.

Now more $$$ being spent on women's team and academy.

If this falls over it's not gonna be pretty.

The metamorphosis from a Geelong based bid called "Victoria Patriots"  (yes, we all remember that one well), to a Tarneit-based bid, with some sort of land deal with the local council all happened quite quick, I reckon within the space of 3 or 4 months.
Given that to this day, the foreign based property developers remain anonymous, we can all be assured that whatever went down, there was no shortage of back office shenanigans and greasing of palms.

Why does the "foreign based developers" keep coming up as part of this group.
As far as I know and am aware there are no foreign developers involved in the WMG consortium.
If they did, then I'd assume they'll have some serious capital to start developing.
They have definitely been trying to get other parties involved and investing in it over the years.

Why has this been brought up again?
Is it out there somewhere that there is a foreign interest in the group?
I have never seen or heard any firm info about a foreign party involved.

I think they'll also leave behind a conga line of investors wondering where their returns are on the property deal.
These guys definitely weren't playing with their own money.
Got a feeling the end is nigh.
Unless there is more investment funds found soon.

I've said it before. They are the Carlton SC of the A-league. They just went one better and won the GF.

Who is/was worse though in your opinion, Carlton or WU?

LOL. Bullshit. 100% wrong. There was no funds for Dandenong stadium and no election promises from any potential government. the FFA would have supported the Dandneong bad had this been true.

You claim Western United have lied, bullshitted their way through it all, etc. But the stuff you say is less truthful (or your memory is cactus).

Thanks for proving my point. There was a lot of discussion about it in 2018, but the VIC Govt never committed any funds.

numklpkgulftumch - 20 Feb 2023 5:15 PM

Coming along well. But i think they will have issues getting people in and out for games when it opens. The VIC Govt has only committed to building a train station at Davis Rd, which is about 2km away. No word yet on the proposed train station at Sayers Rd.

So somehow Memeti securing 23 million for the training facility and a commitment from the council to gift the land to a football stadium construction is inferior to Roffey's mealy mouthed promises of gifted land for a 15k stadium ... still whiteout any planning permission after 5 years.... righto. Ill concede, your obviously very passionate about the Aleague's greatest ever franchise.... Hope, for the sake of the people who actually live out there that you are right and this doesnt become some white elephant half finished nothing .... Hospitals; schools and childcare facilities would be a better use of resources I think but, whatever.

Only holds 5k so getting people in and out shouldn't be a problem. No different from any number of other similar capacity venues around (eg: Hume city, Knights, Heidelberg, Preston, etc...)

Let's see how long WU last before we determine who is worse.

Both spent stupid money.
Carlton at least had a home - princess park then Olympic Park.
Carlton pulled the pin pre-season? 2000/01 season. 4 years.
Carlton owner probably make a better ROI than WU group on the football club
Thanks to onsell of Grella and Brescano.
Unless this property deal works out. But can they survive that long ??

Let's see what this capacity will be.
1000 permanent seating for a 5k capacity venue?

Usually when seating is added to replace standing room, then capacity declines.
Unless the temp stands are 15-20 rows wrapped around the 3 other sides of pitch??

Where has the 8k capacity been stated??
Is this another Pehlivanis lakeside moment ?

Seating capacity of the main stand has been stated to be 5k. Unclear how much standing room there will be, but temp seats could push it up to 8k. I reckon they'll see how they go with the 5k stand and then introduce the temp seats if required.

Seating capacity of the main stand has been stated to be 5k. Unclear how much standing room there will be, but temp seats could push it up to 8k. I reckon they'll see how they go with the 5k stand and then introduce the temp seats if required.

FMD, they dropped the 5k seats claim ages ago

Look at the stand and take your best guess on how many can fit in there
