Interesting 180 from GCK.. Wasn't it their president that was against the notion the NSD would be financially viable (that the usual suspects jumped on with glee) and they would not be involved in anything like it????

Apologies to any Knights fans If I remember it wrong ....

Great to see  the EOIs starting to filter through..... I am anticipating a fairly decent number will be on this lsit by the end of next week :)

I think it would be handed over to the APL if all the clubs were totally professional.

It will be administered by Football Australia as it will be a national competition, state leagues will continue to be run by state federations.

The A League will, as it stands, be administered by the APL and will continue to operate as a stand-alone league.
If at some point the A League decides to become part of the pyramid then decisions will have to be made with regard to who will administer the top one or two professional leagues.

James Johnson has made it clear he wants the whole football ecosystem joined so there won’t be any room for closed leagues.

I was not talking about what the system will be now.  I was talking about when the NSD clubs are fully professional.  I believe then and only then will there be P/R between the 2 professional leagues.  P/R between the national third tier and the national second tier, the NSD, would continue once it is established by FA no matter what happened above that.

As I said, the A League is a ‘stand alone’ league  and therefore not part of the football pyramid. Until such time as the APL indicates that it wishes to become a part of the football ecosystem it will operate only the A League.

and long may it stay that way TBH.
They can have the top all to their own and see if it lasts good luck to them IF not, then the pyramid is enforced.

An EOI is easy to do. Allows the club to know what is going on if nothing else, they will not necessarily apply.

The NST clubs will be fully pro from the beginning. The FA have stated it as a requirement of entry.

The document says that players will have to sign a professional contract and that they will be paid 52 weeks a year.  A professional contract under FA's registration system does not mean that players are necessarily employed full time.  Similarly with club management and admin staff.

In my view being fully professional does not simply mean that players and staff are paid a salary but it means that those people are full time involved in the club.  It also means that the clubs operate in a professional manner in all facets of the organisations business.  As an example no one in any role in the club should have to contribute financially for being involved with the club.  This should be the case with every young player on the development pathway and every trainee in the organisation.

Sounds like 10 to 12 clubs have or have indicated they have or will be submitting an EOI. NSW, Vic, SA and Qld represented. WA, ACT, TAS not at this stage. Preston Lions not one of the 30 teams is one of the those.

Thanks for the link. The clubs they mentioned as submitting an EOI are the likely suspects, but good to see a list emerge:

Sydney Olympic
Preston
South Melbourne
Heidelberg
Melbourne Knights
Peninsula Power
Adelaide City
Gold Coast Knights
Wollongong Wolves
Marconi

And most intriguingly, a merged entity in Brisbane (who would that be? City + Strikers?)

Sunshine Coast is also confirmed but not mentioned by them. APIA and Sydney United were also unmentioned but you'd think they are also highly likely to bid.

I don't think GCK will make the cut (maybe GCU will express interest, but both have the problem of facilities), but the others seem viable. So it already looks like enough teams for a decent league. Probably won't be a Perth side given PSC won't bid and there is radio silence from Red Star and Floreat Athena.

The absence of a Perth bid helps the whole venture.

Cut-off date is the 3rd of March, so plenty of time for one or more to apply.
There is always the possibility they have been quietly told that the FA will not select a WA club and not to waste their time and money. There is a $5k fee just to submit an application ($2.5k refund if not selected). Not alot of money, but not worthing spending if the effort is futile.

The absence of a Perth bid helps the whole venture.

Nothing wrong with our WA clubs at least having the opportunity to get promoted into the NST but yeah you're definitely right about Perth. Definitely spreading the risks by not being there initially. If our players/coaches are good enough (I think a few definitely are), they will get snatched up. NPLWA can become a solid development feeder league.
